When looking at the Magnus “ I think it’s gone do something funky” I just LOL’ed because I knew from experience it was gone be money. Magnus fly great.
I thought the exact same thing. 150 stingers all day baby.
Magnus are far and away the best flying fixed blade heads I've seen. I've been shooting two blade stingers for 5 seasons now and love them.
I shot a doe with a buzzcut a few weeks ago got about a 3/4 pass though. she ran about 50 yrds. The razor sharp head just shredded her insides and she ran off.
I shoot Magnus buzz cut stinger 4 blade on hoggs and it works like a champ.
I'm also a magnus lover. Used them for years until iron will won me over. Def a fantastic BH!
Currently using the 125 black hornet non-serrated. Shot very close to my field tips. Not saying I did it, but if you were to bury a broadhead at 45 yards into the woodshed framing and broke the ferule trying to get it out, they will cover that under their lifetime warranty. Couldn't get it out, it was buried too deep. Again, not saying I did that.
😂
After you've shot a target, the Montec can be re-sharpened on a flat fine diamond stone ,that's what I like about them
The only thing in my experience that can ruin a Montec is a rock. I got a pass through into a root ball and even that didn't destroy the broadhead. A passthrough into a dry creek bed did curl the tip a little but I was able to sharpen it out and reuse it.
I've been researching fixed blades for a while. Can't afford buying a boxful of different ones to try, so I've decided to go with QAD Exodus. They usually finish pretty decent in most tests I've seen. They're a LOT of quality fixed blades to choose from these days, to the point we're splitting hairs between the top brands on performance it seems. A lot more complexities involved in mechanicals, which is one reason I avoid them altogether; my fixed blades are already "deployed" before they leave the arrow rest. Some people swear by mechanicals, others swear AT them. To each his own. My 80 year old father arrowed a small buck last week with a Thunderhead 125 that's probably killed a dozen deer or more over the years. He's tight as bark on a tree, he'll just sharpen the blades and put it back in the quiver. I doubt there's many mechanicals that have gotten into double-digits on deer with just routine sharpening, but I could be wrong, I'm not an authority on broadheads, but I have been using them for over 40 years now.
I absolutely love mine and have for years. I shoot 125g.. You will love them.
Magnus has been my go-to this year broadheads. Best thing I like about them besides they fly awesome, is the warranty they offer. Any damage you email them a picture and they send you a new broadhead in the mail. Honestly don't know any other company that does that.
I switched to the slicktrick this year, very happy with how well it flies. Very little broadhead tuning needed from 30 yards.
_Great Video!_ _That plywood test tho!🤣🤣_
I’ve really enjoyed my iron wills and QAD Exodus. I used the standard blade exodus last year and blew through a big white tail. This year I’m using the Exodus swept blade. They fly even better than the standards which fly incredible. I could have probably just used the standards again this year. They’re still in great shape and sharp. For 40 bucks a pack, why not try others? I highly recommend them if you can’t or prefer not to spend big money on iron wills. Cool test @Chris Bee
I love the Exodus, everytime I try something different I always come back.
I think those two are the best avaliable
Great video as usual. Main point here from Chris is tune your bow and use helical fletch. When you do they all “fly like field points” I’d use any of these but fond of something I can sharpen. Thanks Chris. Can’t wait see your hunts this year.
What do you use and sharpen?
I’m leaning towards a 3 blade or 2 blade because I also want to be able to sharpen.
I hit the far rib on a quartering away shot on a whitetail deer with Montec. The arrow did not pass through, and the tip was curled over 1/8”. Dead deer, no problem but wondered what the result would be if I had hit the near side rib on the entrance side? I switched to QAD since the hardened tip looks like it would split a rib and not curl over. I also honed all the Montec’s right out of the package to bring them to razor sharpness just to be safe. The QAD blades right out of the package were razor sharp. Great video Chris, thanks for the comparison!
Good choice my friend the exodus will be my head for life!
I've used 3 of those over the years. Montec, Slicktrick, and the Magnus Black Hornets. Hands down, my favorite between them is the Magnus. They fly great, cut big, are made of a carbon steel instead of stainless (means it can take a better edge and hold it better) have the second best blood trail of any broadhead I've used and I've never had a whitetail go more than 50 yards out of the 9 that I've taken with it. By the way, I've used the same blade to take all 9 of those deer. 2 ferrules, but the same blade, just reshaped.
The Slicktricks were great, but I broke a blade. Personally, that is unacceptable. The positive of the slicktricks is that they have consistently left the best, most consistent blood trails I've ever gotten. Big 2 blade expandables included.
My experience with the Montecs is that the indeed flew the best, and was the easiest broadheads to tune. However, the are the dullest broadhead I've ever bought and lose their edge very quickly. The dull broadhead left much to be desired when it comes to a blood trail
They make a carbon montec too! A piece of 1000-1500 grit sandpaper and 5-7 strokes per edge will have them razor sharp in 2 minutes!!!
@@NEFARIOUS_B.I.G. Good to know! To be honest, I shot the Montecs back when they first came out. I haven't looked into anything G5 since my experience with the Montecs.
If I ever look to going back to a 3 blade design, I'll definitely look into the carbon steel version.
When I switched from mechanical to fixed I found the hornet ser razor to be my favorite. Flew really good, blade thickness/structural integrity was nice. First year I ran it through a super mature buck hard quartering away. Put it last rib and it came out right behind the shoulder. Was a little worried I only got one lung with that hard angle but he only ran about 60 yds. I recently switched to the tuffhead Evo 3 blade because I didn't like the loud buzzing noise in flight of all the vented heads. Plus it is easy to sharpen like you showed with the montec. I have a set of 4 small diamond stones in diff grits that I keep in my hunting crate. If I ever need to ReSharpen it is super easy
Do you get a good triangular wound from the tuffhead?
@austinhall5933 so I actually haven't shot anything with it yet. I moved to Qatar. Been here for a year.will be here another 2. Flew back for a week last season and shot a deer but it was with a rifle bc I needed my meat for the year. Processed it myself and brought it back here to the middle east lol. I'm going to be back down in texas for 3 weeks this time so I'm hoping to try to get it done with my bow so I'll let you know how the tuffhead works out
Iv shot g5 Montec for 15 years. Most reliable and I personally have harvested 2 deer with the same broadhead without sharpening for the second use of it . But I never knew you could lay them flat to sharpen them ha
Been archery hunting for 10 years now, shot 7 whitetail, 3 elk and 2 bears with the montechs. Never even sharpened one until this year. My longest blood trail was 250 yards
Check out Annihilator and Annihilator xl broadheads of 7 deer my longest blood trail has been 45 yards!! Super durable!!
I used the exodus swept on my buck this year and its the head I'll be using from now on. Perfect triangle that stays open. Blood flow was phenomenal.
Been shooting Exodus for years and while they can be picky when it comes to tuning, they've always stood out in almost every other important department. I've tested about 20 different broadheads over the years (roughly 10 fixed and 10 expandable) and kinda lost trust on expandables for whitetails
“You got the dead meat in the lead because the way that it is.”
I love it haha
You can tell it’s an aspen because the way that it is.
that's pretty neat.
Really enjoying these tests, keep it up. I went from Ramcat to QAD, love both but the durability of the QAD won me over
You should test the Muzzy 100gr Traditional 4-Blade. I’ve been shooting Muzzy 4-Blades since the 1980’s and they’ve never failed. Last fall I shot my elk with my 409gr arrow at 110 yds and got a total pass through. And they hit point of aim to 130 yds. right along side my field points… I don’t think you’ll be disappointed…
Ballsy taking a 110yd shot on an animal. I wouldn't take a shot at anything past 65yds to many factors come into play that far. To each their own I suppose.
I am calling BS.
Maybe with a crossbow…
For bh performance reviews I highly recommend John Lusks videos. His process is very consistent and detailed, and every test serves a purpose. Although your tests are fun and entertaining, which I suppose is the real intent, I think it your bh comparison didnt yield any substantial results. But then again, your BH choice doesn't matter much if you put the arrow where it needs to go.
Yes Lusks’ reviews are excellent.
yes sir! best broadhead reviewer on the internet! He is why i now shoot SEVR 2.0 broadheads lol
I love the iron will single blade. They fly straight, easy to sharpen, easy to tune
G5 is definitely my go to. Ive tried a large variance of broadheads over the years and have had the best results from the g5. And it can be re used without changing blades, just wet stone the edges a little and go again.
I literally watched your mechanical broadhead video this morning then you drop this! Perfect timing lol
I shot the Magnus last year and had great success. They flew good, spin tested good, only thing they are a little noise in flight. I did sharpen them before I went hunting, I had the same issue as you. Great job keep up the great work.
Out of these id take the exodus every single time
Shot 9 does last year with the 125 grain Exodus....unbelievable results. Broke bones went through shoulders, zero damage. Super sharp on my Sharp Bess tester. Shot 5 deer with slick trick, they ran a lot further with less blood then the Exodus. My buddy shot a few deer with montec...pretty dull out of the package.
😊😊😊😊😊
Agreed Exodus is much better than the Slick Trick. Both are very solid heads but the blood trails are no comparison. Exodus produces much more blood on the ground regardless of shot placement.
Exodus hands down
Very funny how many times you remarked on the grim reaper being so tiny.. when it has THE EXACT SAME cutting diameter as your beloved dull montec😂
Also it was the micro hades pro. Which is 1 1/16 vs 1 3/16 of the hades pro.
@@Dziuky08 correct, but the montec is also 1 1/16"
Exodus alllll day 🔥
I use a cheaper version of the G5 Montec and I love how easy it is to sharpen. I’ve always gotten pass throughs even if I hit a rib. If you sharpen it right it will go through anything. Even the scapula
I switched to the montec this year. I'm a believer now. The blood loss was my biggest surprise. Would recommend this broadhead to anyone
Hey what up man. Been watching your vids for a little while now and has helped me shoot way better than i used to. Can we get a trophy room tour????? Also why your boy standing so zesty 🤣🤣🤣
Nothing escapes the slick trick. Been using the 100 grain heads with my compound bow and crossbow. Twenty years and going. Never looked at any other broadhead since. And trust me, I have used numerous others.
One broadhead to rule them all, it's the slick trick.
The only fixed broadhead that literally flies like a field tip, and the damage it does is second to none.
A pass through is a pass through. I’ll take a 2” cut over 1” all day and the way Rage Original has performed for me so many years I have trouble changing. But I have had great success with G5 Deadmeat. The gaping entry hole of the Rage is mind blowing.
The montecs are nice yes they rather dull out the box but they are easy to sharpen. Take 15 minutes and run em over some stones and they will stay sharp
I love the g5 montec but I always sharpen them myself out of the box
One thing you didn’t mention about the magnus broad heads is they have a lifetime no BS warrantee. If you bend or break or damage it in any way beyond repairable they will replace it no questions. Best value for your money in my opinion. Would have been nice for you to discuss the MSRP as well or cost per broadhead. Otherwise well done.
Thanks mate, appreciate your time
Have shot magnus for 2 years now only complaints they are loud in flight and not a whole lot of blood to trail. Currently trying hydroshocks this year and hoping I get better performance and more of a blood trail then magnus.
Montecs, along with other solid 3 blade broadheads, have a 30 x 30 degree bevel which is not as sharp as a replaceable blade. G5 Striker V2s and Slick Tricks have German Lutz blades made in Solingen Germany. These blades are scalpel sharp and blood trails are incredible.
Agreed! The G5 100 gr is my go to. And never failed me.
G5 is all one piece, they sharpen real easy and if you buy the carbon they are very sharp and sharpen better. I've passed through and drove them in the dirt and rocks, no damage. They shoot excellent, great on a quarter shot, and on feathers like turkey.
Let's Goo Chris! We've been looking forward to this one
I’ve used the QAD exodus broadhead on a whitetail doe at 11 yards. It was a good size cut.
Same on a buck, beautiful pyramid of death on both sides of him. Dropped in 20
Just crushed a doe with exodus in pa she ran 40 yards. Quartering to. Went in lungs and off side hole had intestine coming out. And buried in the dirt.
11 yards? why didn't you just pull out your knife and stab the thing.
QAD do replacement blades too, for a fraction of the cost.
Magnus and slick tricks hard to beat either. I’d run and trust both and have. Great heads Magnus gets the slight nod with the warranty tho.
I would love to see you hunt with these broadheads this year. Try to keep it to 20-30 yds and see how they perform. Not going to be a perfect test, but I think it would be better than ballistic gel. Ballistic gel is designed to stop projectiles. Still a great test.
From AU Enjoyed the video very informative after my first fallow deer already have the slick trick so will see how they go
Chris , have you ever shot or used wasp fixed blade broadheads? I’ve used them for my entire archery career 40 years worth. Never had an issue, the original owner showed me how he shot thru a steel drum with his broadheads. They are plain and simple perform. Check them out. I’ve used the Hammer 3 blade. Taken , deer, bear, caribou and elk. No issue.
Is there a Big Difference between 100gr. broadhead & 125gr. broadhead accuracy wise???? Which do you prefer on your whitetail setup???
You should do a temu broad-head video!!
Even though I no longer hunt, back when I started in the early 80's I shot fixed 3 blades and always sharpened them no matter what. It was a pain, but I never took anything out of the package I didn't have to mess with. Just my curios nature I guess. If you don't want to spend the time to make sure the part that does the killing is as good as it can be, then maybe you should consider spending your time doing something other than hunting.
Again, another great video to learn by!
Used rage 2 blade for years awesome blood trail but then started losing deer found bladez werent opening switched to g5 montec 125 grain and love them never going back
Can you do cut on contact single bevel ones for the next round? Tuffheads, cutthroats, VPA. Really enjoying the videos thanks Chris!
I'd like to see you test the Annihilator XL 100grn broadheads. Lusk Archery Adventures did and excellent video review and test but I'd be interested to see what you think of them.
Chris you should try VPA broadheads instead of the Montecs. Lancaster actually sales them now.
When does ballistic gel season start? I'm so pumped!
Looking forward to a Kaitlyn M recipe, LOL
Thank you!!! So great to see.
Always a great day when he posts a video
The tried and true Montec. Nice vid.
Used slick trick standard 4 blade 100 grain .
Never had one go more than 40 yards so far . Sticking to what has worked for now
Exodus hands down!
Mechanicals win the sharpness test out of the package because they are literal razor blades. It's tough for solid fixed blades to come off the mill razor sharp without hitting a hone machine. Some companies don't hone before packaging, some do.
Notice how every single broadhead is +/- an inch of each other. Gel is not even close to showing you what will actually happen on a live animal.
Interesting that the downrange group was better on the fixed blades than the mechanicals.
I grew up shooting magnus stingers. They’re awesome. I’m shooting iron will single bevels now and idk if I’ll go back. They shoot great out of my bow out to 110!
I used my nephew's bow that I had set up with a bunch of my spare parts to hunt grouse and because its only set to like... 18lbs I couldn't use my g5 SGH so I used the slick tricks, obviously not a killer test when it's a small bird but they did the job well. However they definitely need that ability to replace blades cause they didn't hold up super sweet 😅
Id be interested to see if there was any performance differences between the serrated and un serrated magnus
Muzzy 100 grain 3-blade fixed broad head is a very popular one
Shot the Slick Trick last year on one of my bucks. had a vertical cut from the top to the bottom of the entry side lung. He went maybe 20 yards
Why not add more helical to your three fletch, rather than adding another fletching?
Would you be apposed to testing the rage 4 blade extreme? Looks like a nice broadhead and Been looking into trying them but skeptical on how they would fly and compare to the megameat.
Slick Trick when they had German blades were insane. First broad head that made me think about buying a broad head wrench. If you handled them on any level you would just start bleeding.
Should do a test or explain why people like heavy arrow vs light arrow
You need to invest in a blade sharpness tester if you are going to continue to compare the sharpness of broadheads.
So do you suggest fix blade , or mechanical for whitetails?
Great video Chris, I'd pick the G5s just due to the one piece design and ease of sharpening. Those blades are not sharp at all! My pocket knife will slice through paper like nothing. I do touch up my blades with a ceramic stone right out of the package, after all we owe it to the animal to take them as quickly and humanely as possible.
FIXED IS KING!!!
The G5 Stryker is the sharpest broad that I have used. The G5 Montec is probably most accurate I have used. I have found any fixed blade broadhead will fly if you have 100grs of brass up front🤣
You should try the grim reaper 1 3/8 razor tip with blades in the open position. That’s what I’d use. Blades won’t dull in the quiver, they fly great for me in the open position.
Ive shot slick tricks at a lot of game, they do some damage and fly very well. Ive not lost an animal yet to them from mule deer to elk.
very interesting .well done really enjoyed .thank you
Try you some Simmons shark broadheads!!!!
Need to do test at 20 yds, 30, 40 yds!! Then 125 vs 100 or 85 vs 100grains!
What target are you shooting into? Been looking for a good target to shoot broadheads into. Bought a few but they either get destroyed really quick, or impossible to get the arrow out of.
Do you have a recommendation for a fixed blade out of a cross bow
Magnus black hornet fly phenomenal out of a crossbow.
Chris would you do a review on annihilator Broadheads? Look legit seen other videos of them being indestructible. I’m curious of the flight long range and how they hold up.
Had great experience with QAD Exodus
I shot Exodus for years with success, but settled on Magnus Hornets a few years ago. Tried G5 Montecs, but couldn't get them as dialed in for one reason or another or stay as sharp as the ser-razors.
Looks like personal preference any of them should work fine 😮.
10 years I switched from Nap thunder head to a Muzzy 3 blade. The reason I switched because the Thunder head would plain. They’re also tough as nails.
I’m newer to archery and hunting, and I want to say your content is awesome. Would you recommend any places to shoot around Grand Rapids?
Thoughts on the montec vs the montec cs? The cs seem to group a lot better for me.
I have the montec CS, and I love them! Watch me shoot a deer with them this deer season on the Kansas Outdoors RUclips channel.
@@KansasOutdoors1387 I’ll watch you if you watch me?
Are you making a video of New Mexico elk hunt?
No, he hates making money...
Jk. It just happened dude. Give them time to work their magic
@@jackbuendgen389 should be a good video can’t wait for the pronghorn aswell
You should try the qad on a animal
Now you sound like my Dad. He told me you wanted the arrow to stay in the deer to get that "extra" cutting as the deer ran off. Biggest distance from the truth. That deer needs two holes to really take the life out of them fast when the arrow hits the cavity. One hole entry ,arrow will plug holes, vessels, arteries, and the deer may die, may go a long ways, may live a lot longer. It doesnt take much blade, just get the pass through.
MOST DEER ARE SHOT FROM A TREE STAND SO THE ENTRY HOLE IS USUALLY ANGLED HIGHER THAN EXIT HOLE IS LOWER. YOU WANT A LOWER EXIT HOLE AS IT'S HARD TO GET BLOOD TO RUN UPHILL, IF YOU WANT A GOOD BLOOD TRAIL. THAT'S WHY.
Check out ozcut broadheads they are super tuff and have cool packaging 😂
gel tests are nothing but a friction test. Shoot 3 standard field points on a 6, 5 and 4mm shaft. The 4mm shaft will will win because despite having a common field point, it parted the gel for the shaft to slip through. Even if the field points DO match the size of each shaft the 4mm will still win because its surface area is slightly less than the 5 or the 6mm. Same with the heads - keep the shaft diameter constant but this time change the head and the one with the least active surface area and/or the one that works to part the gel for the shaft behind to slip through will win. Gel literally proves nothing other than how an arrow moves through a substance that animals aren't made of.
Just a suggestion… in the future if you do anything like this with any product, do the tests in the same order that you opened them.. my adhd does not support these different orders for every different test 😂
I loved the QAD, but they were hard to find back then. Which made getting some while on the road hard at times.
Cinder block the ultimate test
Very cool test, what fixed blade did you use on your elk in Montana?
He said that he used a Grim Reaper,. Weight ???
