If someone was skilled enough they could probably open the insides of a furby and remove that part, then they could open the droids and place it inside.
@@arizonaranger9487 True it can be done but the you would have a droid the speaks in furbish or whatever the furby language is, but that would be about all you could do. It wouldn't move on around on it's own and it wouldn't interact with another droid unless you did it to another droid as well or someone let you tinker with their droid too. Also the price for a droid and one of those new furby would make it around $300 give or take.
Well, see that wouldn't work well, because furbies interact with a series of high pitch beeps and radio waves.

It is actually really hard though, It's easy too for the magnets to catch the wrong way, and it will sometimes come out of alignment during use if it jerks too hard

I went on Wednesday, November 13 of this year. Galaxys edge wasn’t crowded at all. The Build a Droid section didn’t have a line at all. Walked right up and built mine. This was around 10-11 a.m in the morning.

The heads fall off of every version of bb-8's i didn't really expect it to stay on if it perfectly stays it wouldn't spin so well
I can only speak for my BB-R4D and I haven’t found it to be a major issue. 🤷🏽♂️

It could be made to work. Protruding Ball bearings instead of the 3 Teflon circles for contact. Could use much stronger magnets. Bearings would just barely protrude out of the plastic in the bottom of the head

@@Nil-8 Sorry for the late reply but according to people who have multiple droids at home they do interact with eachother when at your own house. Just make sure to turn the remotes OFF. Having the remotes set to OFF that should trigger them to interact with eachother. 😉

It makes more sense since BB is rubbing his entire body on the ground and Sad baby just drags his feet. Also, Dan-o should mention there's package pick up so if you go crazy shopping you don't have to carry everything. Only items they don't do pick up for are cantina mugs and drinks.

Here’s the problem with the bb units. I noticed you were having trouble with connecting the dome to the body of your bb unit when constructing him. I got the SpinMaster BB-8 about a year ago and he was SO COOL. You could put him in “follow” mode and he would just follow me around the house everywhere I went. But he just stopped working one day. They’re so technologically sophisticated and awesome but also very sensitive, unfortunately. Now my little BB-8 just sits in the corner of my room, lifeless 😕😢

But sweet jesus it's gonna cost me a fortune. Between the sabers and the droids, I'm gonna be down at least 500aud before I even go sight seeing around the park.
flights are 1000$ aud and to stay at disney hotel for 4 days its 1600$ aud. i bet tickets is 200$ aud a person and for a droid and saber its 400$ aud so it totals to around 3400$ aud.

I like the r2 units more because they have a lot of accessories
I prefer the R3’s myself. They’re hard to get your hands on nowadays but they’re a bit more sturdy and have a much better memory core. The trade-off, as with everything contracted by the old republic, is that they tend to be a bit harder to fix, and definitely aren’t safe to strap spare parts to the way the R2 and R4 are.
Yeah if I got an R2 I’d spend all my money on accessories
Cannot thank you enough. Buying a droid in September, and I want to plan a bit (tho apparently not all bits are available all the time) but couldn’t hear the personality chips anywhere else. Subbed for sure, fan after my own heart, these things matter dammit! Disney oughta have it all online, no luck.

The only gripe I can think of toward Droid Depot is that they don't also offer C1 units, like Chopper, from Rebels. I had a name worked out for a C1 and everything.
@Joshua White Most incorrect. A C1 unit is only 3/4 the height of an R unit. The cylindrical body is thicker, and the legs are an entirely different design. Also, the visible tools on a C1 are a different design.

It immediately occurred to me that this could be taken the wrong way. I meant that, based on the name and the fact that you made him leader of the "RadBBSquad," he struck me as being like a punk teenager from the 1990's into graffiti, rock music, and skateboarding (Or would it be "skateballing" since he has no legs?)

Really neat droids, but it's a shame so much functionality is lost when you're not at the Black Spire Outpost. I live pretty far away from either CA or FL, so it's not like I'd be able to visit often.
I'd really like to see (if possible) something like a phone app that could send the various Bluetooth signals to trigger all the different responses at home. Obviously it wouldn't be like being there, but still cool to be able to get your droid to use some of those reactions.
Or at least make it where they do interact with each other at home

The purple one reminds me of glados
I was able to put those gray/silver things the opposite sides (idk how to explain it.) but basically opposite of how you attached them. It seems like they won’t fit under that little hook like portion but if you turn it a certain way it will latch on and they will be out of the way of the power button and the chip. (I wish I could attach a picture of mine on here)
I know exactly what you’re talking about, you placed them perpendicular to how I did it in this video. It works way better that way.

The backpack is great! It’s very well made. It has a zipper pocket inside as well. I think to hold the chips but can also hold the remote too.
It'd be nice if they were more interactive. For the price you pay, there should be more colors, and they should have some interactivity...they could recognize when other droids are nearby and beep at each other like a furby, or have an app that you could set up like a pokemon go kind of thing for outside of the park. The technology is out there. I do love them, and built one recently for my sis in law. I do want to go back and build myself an r unit. I like the blue, silver, and orange chips. They sound the most musical.

Galaxy’s edge, at toydarian toymaker
I saw this video from another channel, and they indicated that to use your BB-8 unit after the 5 minute sleep period you have to take him apart to turn him back on and then pair the remote again. Do you really have to do that every time if you don’t use him within 5 minutes? Also, so roughly every minute he makes beeping noises on his own? I don’t want to have to press a button every time to make him talk.
Thanks for the detailed overview. I have the 4 Sphero droids (fantastic, great build quality, realistic models). Would seem Disney sought to craft their own version of these. While customizable, the Park models seem to be far less interactive with their surroundings / one another. While I’ve never found the Sphero models to truly converse...consistently, they will engage one another, on their own, from time-to-time, which is very cool. Sadly, Sphero announced they would no longer make SW models. I wonder if Disney nixed the lic so it wouldn’t compete with their own? This is unfortunate, I was hoping for a more advanced C-3PO or Rise of Skywalker D-O to add to my collection.

It's good to know that the personality chips are similar for either droid. It's still kinda hard to choose (a few favorites at least) but great to go informed.
I'm conflicted about weathering. On the one hand, it can make a droid or prop look more "natural." On the other hand, I like to weather my stuff naturally. 😅 But if you want to give them paint jobs, I say go for it. The weathering will make them more unique and "one-of-a-kind," when compared to the others at the Outpost.
Love the video. The advice was very helpful and very important to know. Thank you for letting us know about the different sounds the chips make. The bag is a must have, not really sure about getting a chip. But if I needed to pick one I will go with the purple/smuggler.

Cisco Sanchez probably won’t change. I’m apart of full size bb8 builder club. The wobbling is hard to deal with. The drives that goes into these are 1000$+ so to make these affordable they can’t go overboard

@@ciscosanchez4127 I think getting some lead weights and adhering them to the bottom of the drive to improve the CoG would be a good start, but the design will have issues especially on an uneven surface

Over $1000 for drive on a BB? That sounds overly fancy when you consider a pair of RS550s mated to Banebots 20:1 gearboxes goes for around $120 or so.
(and if you say that those are too low-quality, keep in mind we use those for drive in combat robots. If they can stand that kind of abuse they can definitely handle being used in a BB unit)
I've noticed in yours and other videos that there are no yellow or green part options. I wonder why?

You could always paint it. A lot of people do that to their already custom droids
They should be able to make an online store where you can buy them either a custom kit or themed droid kits. as for sabers you would be sent the saber body type of choice alongside a kyber crystal of your choice not everyone has money to fly to disneyland and spend extra on this kinda stuff
Im not saying this is good, but they have this stuff only in the parks for 2 reasons:
1. Incentive to get people to come to the parks
2. Incentive for people to buy things once they're in the park because they cant be bought anywhere else.
Its GREAT for their business model, but sucks for us consumers.

I am making a bb unit with Arduino and looks almost like an upgraded bb-4 so mine will be called bb-4.34 because 434 is DCD which is my initials.

I know at the end of your r-unit video you measured the diameter of the BB-unit, but I re-watched both videos and couldn't find you mentioning the height of the head/total height of the droid. It’s the same thing. Only difference is Disneyland has an extra entrance near droid depot. In disneyworld it will just have two entrances.
I've been considering getting a droid and I wasn't too sure about the process, how it worked, and the options you could have (in terms of personality chips and such) and I have to say, your videos really helped me understand the process and the different options. If I ever get to go and make a droid I’d live to build a purple BB unit and buy a purple smuggler chip. The sound of the black first order chip is crazy but I’m no way a first order person. I’m not a fan of the noises of the resistance chips unfortunately even though I most identify with those characters so I’d go for smuggler chip.
The purple droids look sooooooo good. I’m going to end up with like 2k worth of droids in my office. 😅

Great video and a lot of details about how these droids function. I was hoping you were going to say something about waking the droids up from their sleep mode. I built a BB unit and have not been able to wake it after it slumbers from inactivity. I have to open the unit up and turn the power off and on to get it to wake, which is a pain. Any advice about this or is my unit defective? Thanks.

I'm so happy that if / when I ever go I have the information as to what I need to do so I don't hold up the lines and make such a fool of myself, no offense to you honestly I can see why you made some of the mistakes you did and stuff but it's just nice to know that like the legs of the R2 unit don't just snap on you have to screw them in and the head of the BB unit has to be screwed together and stuff
My cat chewed of my bb unit antenna so I built a new one out glow in the dark lego
