The part about Max mentally checking out brought me to tears. It reminds me of a story of a rescue donkey who was really abused. Whenever his rescue lady would come to feed him or do anything around him he would do the same as Max. The author said he would just stand there and his eyes would turn glossy and he'd be unresponsive... People aren't the only ones who can feel dead inside. But, just like Max, the lady worked with the donkey enough that he became happy and alive again! Makes my heart happy too that you guys help these big cats and let them LIVE! Look at him playing and taking in all the new scents, just like a tiger should! Keep up the amazing work you wonderful people!

Years ago a friend shared that she had been sexually abused as a child by a family member, she described that she mentally "went away" when it happened, exactly what you wrote. Thank you for reminding us how interconnected we are.

I watched the live video of all three tigers arriving and it broke my heart when Max didn't go out to explore. I'm so happy he's a happier, silly, and healthy boy. Love our sweet Maxxy boy!!! Now that he has a better life I loved when his first time in VR he became known as the ultimate walker. He’d walked for hours at a time. Such a sweet boy. Not all zoos are bad they participate in rehabilitation and species conservation projects. Oregon and San Diego zoos are prime examples. Georgia Aquarium is also an amazing example for marine animals.
People always try to make zoos seem less culpable in their poor treatment of animals by addressing the couple zoos who have conservation efforts. Most are terrible, the concept of putting animals on display is inherently bad. So ur right!
zoos are a case by case, many are dedicated to recovery and propagation of endangered species while a noteworthy amount of disreputable others are only zoos by virtue of having avoided getting their licenses revoked aquariums... there are good ones, but i do not disavow the knowledge of the many awful ones that somehow manage to avoid getting all their papers and licenses revoked to this day

What a happy day this was to finally see these beautiful boys far away from the abuse they suffered so long. The videos of these boys still bring tears of happiness for them. It was such a great day when the Guatemalan tigers arrived at BCR! To see Max now, how much he has relaxed and blossomed into such a happy tiger is wonderful! He is surrounded now by love, not angry voices and fear. He can splash in his pool, play with his toys or sleep all day. He now has choices on what to do with his time. Thanks BCR and ADI for all you do! Love you Max!!!
I remember how we held our breath when Maxie wouldn't step into his freedom. Then he became such a silly tiger, such a great, big, beautiful clown. TYSM BCR, carers, volunteers for taking him into ur hearts
Wonderful! It was both sad and sweet to see Max take the small pieces of chicken while still in the carrier/cage to his new habitat. Was there anything (catnip, etc) inside the heart box? Max makes so many great "faces." What do I play with first? So many choices! Wow! If we could only know for sure what he was/is thinking. To go from a tiny cage to vacation rotation must have been so wonderful for him. Seeing him come around the bush (4:53+), chuffing as he walked, he looks so very healthy...not like the scared underweight cat he was upon arriving. THANK YOU so much for all you do for your cats, big and not-so-big. ;-)
Aww this is so sad. These animals were living in this world before us yet we have the audacity to exploit, murder and abuse these animals. People like that make me sick. I visited Big cat rescue and it hurt me when the person who was taking us showed the tiny cube that a big cat can live in. Thank you for giving these amazing animals a second chance at life.

Yes, I've seen that the more modern circuses don't use any animals, just humans (acrobats, etc).
majority now don't use any animals, bad circuses can't afford the cost while good ones would rather use the money elsewhere
