Hi mygreentopiary! Awesome, I hope you enjoy the bag. I still love the 45L and 60L bags and try to use whenever I get the chance. I really like the 45L because it's such a great "do all" bag. Take care!
Hi Andrew! Great but tough question! For me it all comes down to use since the bags are very close in size and quality. If I were primarily using for the gym with occasional travel, I would choose the Patagonia 45L. If I wanted to primarily use for travel and occasionally use as my gym bag, I would choose TNF S duffel. For travel, I like to maximize space when possible, so the additional space in TNF S could come in handy. Again, I could see using either for both because both could fill multiple roles very well. Hope this helps. Thanks for the question and comment! Take care!
Thank you for the opinion. I bought both to try out. So far I think the TNF S duffle has a more comfortable fit as a backpack, but I like the Patagonia pocket access a lot more and the two zipper option on the Patagonia is better. I just wish I could just the straps like I can on TNF S duffle. Ugh it will be a tough choice.
Hi@@andrewcampos8607which one did you choose eventually ? Is the TNF really more comfortable as a backback ? I would use one of them as an everyday backpack as I'm a student and I need space for my laptop and my books.
This is a great bag! It was perfect for a week long travel with more than enough room to spare for souvenirs. It’d be great to hear which bag you prefer for different travel (domestic, international, or recreational i.e. skiing, camping, fishing, etc.) purposes.
Hi FoxStop! Thanks for sharing your experience! I've been really impressed so far with the bag, especially it's size. Thank you for the suggestion, I think that's a great idea and I'll work on trying to get the info out. Thanks again and happy travels!
Thanks for a great review! If you compare the backpack straps with The north face base camp duffel XS straps. If you were gonna to wear it for an hour or so. With a little heavier load, which would you prefer?
Hey cordellmaniac! Good question! For me, I prefer the North Face Base Camp straps over the Patagonia's. They seem to fit me better and I find them more comfortable. I do feel the Patagonia Black Hole straps are overall comfortable, but my preference would be TNF. Hope this helps. Take care!
Hi Nepal 2019! I agree with you and don't really understand why lockable zippers were not included. I normally don't lock my bags but I like to have the option in case I wanted/needed to. I know other manufacturers include lockable zippers on similar, or even smaller bags. An alternative may be the Osprey Transporter 40. The Transporter 40 is smaller but offers a few more features. Overall though, I do really like Black Hole 45. A great size for a "do all" bag. Take care!
Hey Mustafa! That is a tough decision! Both are very nice duffels. The Migrate does seem to use thicker material (that I really like) than the Black Hole, but I feel the Black Hole will be very durable over the life of the bag. If price is a factor, the Migrate usually starts less expensive but I've seen a few sales on the Black Hole duffels recently. For me, I feel the Black Hole is more comfortable to use/wear. Just my opinion but, for my money, I'm picking the Black Hole in 45L or 60L over the Migrate : ) I would love to hear which bag you decide on.
@@ChrisU yeah there's a 20% off most of the migrate bags, which makes it an incredible value. I also think the migrate bags look far more sleek and fashionable. I'm gonna order both the 40L and 60L. Lack of shoulder straps really bothers me. I'm wondering if I could clip on some shoulder straps from somewhere else.
Mustafa, that sounds like a great deal! Not sure where you may buy, but if you're shopping online be sure to check shopping portals like ebates/rakuten, or if there are other loyalty programs you may be a member of. Helps sweeten the deal if you get some cashback or extra miles/points. Can't really recommend a good place to connect a shoulder strap on the bag. The backpack straps on the bag work well but I know it would be nice to see the bag come with a shoulder strap as well.
Hi pumbaa matata! That’s a great question! I’ve not had a chance to look at Lightweight 30L but ,comparing specs, the bags seem to be somewhat similar in size. Also, not sure how comfortable the straps on the 30L are by the pics I’ve seen. The Black Hole 45l is more “cubish” than other 45l I’ve looked at and doesn’t seem to be as long. For the size difference (30l vs 45l), comfort of the backpack straps, and somewhat similar size, I would probably give this bag a try. Another option if size is more of a concern is the North Face Base Camp duffel XS. Again, all this is based on me not having a chance to look at the 30 L Lightweight duffel. Take care!
Thank you Daniel! I haven't had a chance to check out the Eddie Bauer Bygone duffle. It looks like a nice bag and currently Eddie Bauer is running a 50% off sale. Not sure how long the sale lasts. I would definitely like to look at some Eddie Bauer bags. LL Bean is on my list too. If you have the Eddie Bauer bag or pick one up, I would like to hear how you like it. Take care!
Hi Thomas! The Patagonia is actually more comfortable than it appears. I've not had a chance to look at the Farpoint 40 besides in store so I can't truly compare. In my opinion, the Patagonia is a great "do all" bag that could be used to travel, gym, sports, camping, etc. The one exception though, where I'm guessing the Farpoint shines, is wearing the bag for long periods of time. Even though I feel the Patagonia is a comfortable bag, it does lack the sternum strap and hip strap that can help balance the weight of the bag. Also the Patagonia, being a duffel, lacks the ability to organize your items unless using packing cubes or similar type items, if that's important to you. Hope this helps! I know how difficult it can be to try and decide between bags. Take care!
This is exactly the decision I have to make right now. Osprey rucksack or Patagonia duffel bag? I truly don't know. The Osprey rucksack is probably more practical for travelling, but I just like the Patagonia duffel bag a lot :)
Hi Malika! I know how hard it can be to try and decide! Both bags are great choices, but I'm partial to the Patagonia Black Hole 45L too! Another option, if you're interested in a duffel, is the Osprey Transporter 40. A little less space but an awesome bag. I'd love to hear which bag you decide on. Take care!
@@alisak3401 I bought the osprey farpoint 40... so far it's ok. You need to pack smarter. It's a great well made bag, however I thought it could have had a few additional design features.
Geronimo Jr, unfortunately I haven't had a chance to check out any shoulder straps. I believe there are a lot of options on Amazon you may want to take a look at. That actually gives me a great idea for a video, comparing some shoulder straps : ) Thanks!
Hello! I just got this bag and used it for a week-long trip traveling in Peru. It fit some pretty small carry-on requirements and worked out great!
Hi Rachel! That's awesome and great to know! Hope you had a great trip. Thanks for the comment!
Thank you Chris. Yes I’m going to go for the 45 L :)
Thank you for this, Chris. I just got this from Patagonia and I cannot wait to use it on my next trip as a carry-on.

@@ChrisU Thank you very much! It was to a lot of help 🙂👍
I was right with it for shape and size until you got to the part about no lockable zip. I don’t get why they would miss that feature? Your thoughts?

I'm debating this or the eagle creek migrate 60 L ? Thoughts? Migrate looks much more durable

Hi SupaVillin TV! Thank you!
Do you have any idea if the 60L bag is considered carry on?
I believe that 45L is carry on, not 60L.
SOLD!
Is the 45l comfortable to wear as a backpack? It doesnt look too comfortable! Wondering if i buy this or the osprey farpoint 40
