Brilliant idea to turn the paints upside down! I vaguely remember something about turning cans of house paint upside down to keep it from forming a skin, but it never occurred to me to do it for art paint. Thank you! ☺️
Hey Emmy! I never heard of that for house paint cans, but it's a good idea. Of course I'd have to make sure I had the lids secured first!😆 I'm notorious around here for leaving lids only partially closed.
Your video is so timely, Michele. I just organized my paints, mediums and additives (etc.) as well - and they’re organized in a very similar way to yours!
Really good ideas, thankyou. I really needed that. I'm in a one bedroom apartment, with beading , polymer clay and paint. It has become overwhelming. Your ideas have given me inspiration. Thankyou
Can I please ask what country you in and how much did it cost you for 50 colors I can't find a good price is why I am asking an I'm in the U.S.A. North Alabama
MISSY gold Did you watch my video on tips for saving money on art supplies? I discovered recently that there are a lot of great top brand paints on eBay!!
Yep I did watch! It was on eBay! Some deleted had 5 lots from a store that closed down. It was $150 for 50 tubes of new, big sized golden paints. No repeats. Would’ve been $600-$1200 in store. I should’ve even bought more than one lot... sold out in less than 2 hours. But 50 is already so many lol
I Really hope you do a video about a painting....... flowers in a vase. I really don't have the guts to start one... i am thinking of it for like 3 or 4 years now. Your videos are so relaxing and inspiring. Greetings from Romania!
Great idea, Karin.Thank you so much for your kind words! I am honored to have a view all the way from Romania! I have thought of teaching something basic in a video but I would probably start with something a bit easier, like fruit still life. Flowers have so many contours and shadows. However, if you have been painting a while may I encourage you to try your idea. 3 or 4 years is a long time to wait for an idea and it doesn't have to be perfect! Just enjoy yourself and allow yourself your natural birthright to create. No one painting is precious, they are all just part of the journey. 💚
Does it help storing acrylics upside down to avoid the bottom portion of acrylics from drying? I see the more fluid parts are usually on top and the paint gets thicker at the bottom?
Actually I do this so I can see the colors and because it makes less air at the top when squeezing out the last bit of color. I have had some of these colors for over 10 years and they have not dried out but I think that it just because the caps are secularly sealed.
I have my acrylics in one narrow rolling shelf thing, my watercolors in another and Hesse and mediums ride on top of the acrylic cart. I'm a sculptor, just learning to paint. I use a big rolling cart with bins on it for sculpting. A basket hung on the end hold reference photos and an anatomy book, and small bins hung on the side of the cart hold my frequently used tools. So I guess my sculpting organizational habits have carried over to my painting organization.
Sounds like you are very organized! I love hearing how people organize their art spaces. Would love to see photos too, if you would like to share them. You can send them to me on instagram @micheletheberge or at info@themindfulartist.com.
@@MicheleTheberge I also have workstations set up for different media. I work on a flat desk for watercolors and just keep some things there. I work on a table or a drafting table for drawing and acrylics. I have sculpture stands with various works in progress on them and I pull my cart to whichever stand I need to use right then. I have a HUGE studio, so it's easy to separate task areas. I'll send you some pictures - just ignore the messiness, please, I'm in the middle of several projects! :)
As a beginning artist, I've been curious to see how people organize their materials. I'm currently mostly just using a shelf where I stash my materials, along with a drawer in my bedroom, but I have been wondering about storing my tubes of paint (mostly Arteza and Artist Loft, and some Liquidtex) so that I can see the colors and grab the tubes better, rather than having to dig through their box all the time. Hmmmm.........
With tubes, you might consider shallow boxes that you can lay the tubes down flat. I like to group the color families in separate boxes to make them easier to find. You might stack them in a drawer or on a shelf. Good luck with that!

Storing gouache and watercolour tubes in an airtight container (plastic clip lock or mason jar) keeps them from drying out! :)
Great idea! Thank you for sharing that tip!
