  • In this film I have talked about all the discoveries that have influenced the manufacture of glass from ancient times, to the present day. In bronze age were common glass beads, and vessels of glass appeared much later, during the reign of Thutmose III in Egypt. In the roman period were invented the glass blowing technique, the first glass bottles, and the first window panes.
In the middle ages were invented the forest glass and the eye glasses. In the modern period were invented the lead oxide glass, the tempered glass, the bulletproof glass, and the fluoride glass. People started to use glass as a building material, and the quality of mirrors was improved.

Great video, with lots of inventors, I like it! Thanks 👍
However, you forgot to mention Michael Owens just after Ashley. Indeed, Michael Owens invented the first fully automated machine that could produce an impressive 2,500 bottles per hour. 😉

Was Murano the island that the glass workers were not allowed to leave? I believe that the secret to making mirrors was closely guarded during Ancient times...everything was ferried to the island, including Doctors and assorted helpers.

We are told in our modern History that glass windows were first used in 100a.d by the Romans ..
    Book of Mormon
    Ether 2:23
And the Lord said unto the brother of Jared: “What will ye that I should do that ye may have light in your vessels? For behold, ye cannot have windows, for they will be dashed in pieces”

    It wasn't Palestine back then.
It was called Judea, Palestine was a name given by the romans as a punishment.
Sad to see such mistakes in a History Channel.

Well, I’m not even 20 seconds into this video and the very first thing is wrong. Lightning created glass glass is 100% not the first glass people familiar with as it is an anomaly, whereas volcanic glass 100% could be found in abundance and was used in primitive tool making, I’m gonna continue the video but not a great start

What about the mirrors Louis XIV of France had made bringing experts from Murano? Where the French invented a way to roll and make flat mirrors? This was before the German Liebig in 1835. Nothing against the German, just that found this detail before seeing your more extensive and much appreciated thorough history of glass. I’m missing this part here. I’m not sure now how mirrors were actually invented, it seems the King of France had them first in the XVII c. Or maybe Liebig just made them easy to mass produce then?

I just want to say, despite the first hiccup it was resolved very quickly, but as I said on the timeline clearly volcanic glass and it’s abundance with supersede humans use of glass created by lightning strikes. Overall, this is a well done video.

It could be a rather good overview, except for...
Palestine? in 2500 BC? Really? Even when trying to show history of GLASS - one must insert a political lie?
I thought you were all about "passion for history and respect for historical truth"?

    • @HistoryClass

I didn't edited that map. Is strange that Palestine appeared there. I only noticed this now.

    • @verakof
      @verakof 2 года назад +2

@@HistoryClass Well, strange it is not. It is there for political reasons, as I said.
The fact that you did not edit the map or find a non-revision-history one is what brought me to comment as above. To Israelis, to most Jews really, this is both glaring and very obvious as to why.
I personally would appreciate it if you did replace it, and surely take notice in the future.
      Thank you.
