Considering this is basically just a long advert it's surprisingly interesting. I was lucky enough to study under a professor of glass chemistry twenty or so years ago and it's remarkable how much it's come on since then.
Nameless Hmm, Sapphire glass may be superior than gorilla glass in certain applications but I think it was not very wise to use it on a phone. Hence why many people celebrate whenever they drop their phone and the screen doesn't crack lol
masso172 The problem with your last statement is that there are only a handful of phones that use sapphire glass and not gorilla glass, I can only think of two off the top of my head, the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus (counting those as one) and the concept Ubuntu phone that I don't believe ever saw an actual release. Edit: The problem with your argument is also a flaw in my argument, since so few phones have used sapphire glass, it hasn't had much real-world testing, I know Corning has made tests comparing the two (Sapphire glass and Gorilla Glass) but for me those test prove about as much as synthetic benchmarking for PC hardware. It's exceedingly simple to design a test to favor your own product versus a product from a competing company.
Nameless no they dont, as i said, DO RESEARCH BEFORE SPEWING OUT BS. Sapphire glass is dropped because its EASIER to break than gorilla glass and more expensive.
rather than ONLY glass age, I think this is also the age of silicon (it is practically everywhere), and we are actually near the end of it, since we are so close to the age of graphene.
Willy Yappy Graphene most likely will not enter the common market for an excess of 40+ years due to cost, production time and cost, and need for the actual production of graphene. Graphene just isn't needed in this age. Yeah, it may conduct electricity 0.25% better, but that's not sufficient enough to replace every electrical powerline with it. It's just not needed.
Ruben Zikarsky I mean, 40+ years is not that far away for the tale end of an age. Your right though, conducting electricity .25% better is not worth it to replace powerlines. Thats just a dream scenario type stuff, and not necessary at present. However its capability to help store power in conjunction with other materials is much more of interest, and the resulting longevity of the batteries with their ability to maintain charge couple that with being able to charge and pull power at faster rates and it, makes it a very useful material, once you've got a cost effective manufacturing method. Power storage has always and is still currently a big problem. Excess power in power grids is wasted, and considering the reliability issues with solar and wind makes them a good coupling material. Power storage is sorely needed in this age, and if graphene can do it, then its fair to say that Graphene is sorely needed (although there's definitely other materials that could also do it) Imagine electric cars that can charge in a few minutes (or seconds) vs hours, can go much further on a charge, and has a longer life span, and you see why having a potential super capacitor is useful.
OMG. NO WAY. Jamie is just showing me cool stuff and I'm reacting in a completely natural way... I had no idea the products this company is paying me to sell are so amazing
+Cotonetefilmmaker Yup, I would have loved to see this outside of an advertisement so they could have gone into more depth on certain things such as the history and the evolution of the glass creation process or modern types of glass and how their made compared to these new ones and so on. But I feel with the time constraints it had it did a fairly decent job. I for one didn't know ancient Rome had glass in some buildings or that older railroad lights were susceptible to breaking in the rain. It makes logical sense thinking about it, but it's something I never considered or learned about till now.
If you're ever in upstate NY, I highly recommend going to the Corning Museum. It's a wonderful mix of science, craft, and art. Plus, it makes you really appreciate all the glass you see around you day to day.
+ICEThat But lets face it it's advertisement for big companies. There isn't anything being sold just to us. Maybe some bakeware or to visit the museum. Which btw the corning museum of glass is pretty great.

+UndersleptOverplayed i didnt and i had just the same tought... anyway more then silicon age i would say computing age. if you think about it silicon itself isnt that typical for age wre in. its about electronics chips and other sweet sweet stuff. sure you need silicon to make them but silicons isnt the only stuff you need for it ofc >_>

For corporate PR, this is pretty spectacular. Nice work!
feels like these guys are being held by gun point to read a wiki for a free sandwich.
Just Jamie, Adams tries to be funny but you can clearly see that he's not really in his environment, the suit doesn't help
Or maybe a *glass* of water.
@@FlorinCrisan21 Also they guys legit dont like each other at all, idk if anyone really knows their back story on their show. They have zero love for each other.
@@moose9626 still, they worked together for over 10 years
@@FlorinCrisan21 his shoes were the best part of the suit.
Never seen this before, so refreshing to see them together.
This video is such a mastery of sound balance i use it to test headphones and speakers.
They can't stand eachother but yet respect eachother enough to put their bullshit behind them and get the job done for the sake of knowledge and entertainment. What great guys
Well the never said they cant stand each other, just that they aren't friends.
www.polygon.com/2015/10/22/9593334/mythbusters-final-season-relationship you are correct my bad
TwitchyTopHat sure they did it for money
TwitchyTopHat and a paycheck from Corning.
One thing I've learned in life is that your better when you work with someone you hate than one of your friends
I looked down and realised I was holding a glass jar ... of cereal ... which I'm eating dry. Glass age.
without milk?!
No this is Patrick
without milk.
JingleJoe you are a beast
He's only a beast if it's Grapenuts or bran. Cheerios, and chocolate-frosted sugar bombs, don't count.
Love when these gentlemen work together.
I never thought I would be watching an advertisement for glass, let alone enjoying it as much as I am now
Considering this is basically just a long advert it's surprisingly interesting. I was lucky enough to study under a professor of glass chemistry twenty or so years ago and it's remarkable how much it's come on since then.
when jamie was thinking about a world without glass why was there a hot dog??
That's what I was wondering...
the skin of a hotdog is 96% glass.
Maybe he was thinking of a neon hotdog sign? Made, of course, with glass tubes.
It's a joke...
He was hungry
I know this is an ad but its also a genuinely interesting video. Bravo to the team that put this together. Wish more companies thought like this.
Huge fan of these two men.
plastic age?
maybe silicium age. because is very useful for electronics
jcoronet2000 that was the 70s
It is silicone
Maybe condom age?
Ghostwalker CIA no those are around way before b.c. atleast thats what they thought me at basic school
You know you're talented when you can make a video on the history of glass and make it more entertaining than 90% of the videos on RUclips.
A 2 part ad christening yourself the most innovative glassmaker in the world. Nice job corning
Love these 2 together.
Did i just watch an ad for glass but was so captivated the entire time i didn't notice??
you are not alone :)
yes we did
Replace "captivated" with "high" and here we are...
I love these guys with their quirky experiments. This is on another level, seeing bendable glass is amazing...
Damn.. You guys are awseome.
You made a video that is educational, advertising, and informative. I like the idea
Awesome. Thanks. This is the age of glass. Worthy saying.
I wonder if this totally unbiased and non-advertisement video is made by Corning...
Nah... They wouldn't do that...
Why do you think this is posted by Corning? You're acting like it's not obvious
Calamite he's being sarcastic.
Calemite whoooosh
last scene, the platform moves down to dampen the fall... biased af
Triggered much?

Those animations and the color pallet was super satisfying
Broaden it out a little, and you'll see that we're living in the Ceramics Age. Glass is a ceramic, so are concrete, bricks, mortar, etc.
Corning isn't known for concrete though. do they dont give a fuck.
@@juanthestabber you illiterate fuck.
I cant believe apple still uses the most fragile type of glass for its phones instead of this
***** too bad they do. do research before spewing out bs.
masso172 the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus actually use Sapphire Glass, which is actually far superior to Gorilla Glass, since it uses synthetic sapphire.
Nameless
no they dont, as i said, DO RESEARCH BEFORE SPEWING OUT BS. Sapphire glass is dropped because its EASIER to break than gorilla glass and more expensive.
I can't believe it took me 10 minutes to realize that I was watching a commercial, well done corning! I wish these two guys still worked together.
Ill watch any Ad as long as Jamie and Adam are the ones presenting it;)
This is the best ad I've ever seen!
rather than ONLY glass age, I think this is also the age of silicon (it is practically everywhere), and we are actually near the end of it, since we are so close to the age of graphene.
Graphene can do anything in the world except leave a lab
@@jd16596 True True.
Women and their silicon implants.
Power storage is sorely needed in this age, and if graphene
can do it, then its fair to say that Graphene is sorely needed (although there's definitely other materials that could also do it) Imagine electric cars that can charge in a few minutes (or seconds) vs hours, can go much further on a charge, and has a longer life span, and you see why having a potential super capacitor is useful.
Nice suits! Glassiest video in RUclips.
should be on top
So happy to see them back together
OMG. NO WAY. Jamie is just showing me cool stuff and I'm reacting in a completely natural way... I had no idea the products this company is paying me to sell are so amazing

I know!
Maybe it's the display?
yes what was the deal with that hot dog?
Not if it's got a couple fingers of single malt in it.
It's like Jamie's split second of thought 😂. Nothing to do with glass
Corning made a good choice of hiring Jamie and Adam for this. Everything these guys do is perceived as legitimate.
This took me a while to realise it was advertisement.
Either way, really high production. I liked it.
+Cotonetefilmmaker This is the kind of advertisement that I really like. Enjoyable and informative.
+Realname No ikr
Jamie's energy is inspiring.
If you're ever in upstate NY, I highly recommend going to the Corning Museum. It's a wonderful mix of science, craft, and art. Plus, it makes you really appreciate all the glass you see around you day to day.
these videos are just so well made
This is really interesting! (Even though it is an advertisement)
+ICEThat But lets face it it's advertisement for big companies. There isn't anything being sold just to us. Maybe some bakeware or to visit the museum. Which btw the corning museum of glass is pretty great.
it is!?!?!?
Then I would say that it was a good advertizement. I've seen a small trickle of advertizements lately that make me feel better off for encountering them.
We should encourage such positive messages to guide advertizers into giving the public what they want :)
I think it is interesting because everyone loves myth busters and it is the myth busters people
One of the few infomercials worth watching.
we are in silicon age
+oldcowbb Finally someone who passed grade 3 geology.
+oldcowbb That would have been my answer too... combining glas and computerchips into one big overlaying category :)
+oldcowbb gotta love those silicon breast implants!!
+notsostrong metallic breast implants would suck. that's why they use silicone instead of silicon.
All commercials should be like that, I would still watch TV. Great job, and I can't believe I'm going to say that but now I want to watch the part 2 of a commercial ^-^
Its already past midway of 2019
WHY AM I JUST REALIZING THIS SENSATION OF A VIDEO?!?!

We need willow glass for our phones
Artur Chuyashov just don't drop your phone or mistreat it. there you go. I just solved the problem of broke cell phone screens.

what we really need is willow glass eyes with a tiny computer chip, screen and camera embedded in them. then we wont have to worry about dropping our phones any more

Fascinating, that's some kick ass glass!!
Right now I'm enjoying the Cookies & Milk age.
No this is the plastic age.
No this is the Patrick age.
It definitely is. I like how they asked if we could imagine the world without glass, and they brought up glasses. My prescription lenses are made of a polycarbonate, not glass!
It'll be the plastic age only if the plastics industry sponsors the video. Since it's Corning. . . it's the glass age.
Your comment proves it's the idiot age
Or the steel age
Let's be hones, people, at this point, we are not eve talking about ads: these are sponsored popular science docs.
A company paid it, we all know a company did it to promote their area of expertise, yet the science and knowledge is there cause that's the basis for the engineering the company works with.
In conclussion, I undertand the motivation of this, therefore I can somehow trust and definitely enjoy.
Glad you guys aren't as boring as the Glass Age! Well done! ;)
