About 30 years ago or so, CBC produced a made for TV movie about Harry Colebourne and Winnie the Pooh. The most emotional part of the movie for me was when Lt. Colebourne was in a nursing home in England with shell shock. The only thing that could bring him out of his catatonic state was when someone brought Winnie to the nursing home to see him. Lt. Colebourne just broke down and so did I. I don't remember the name of the movie but it may be on CBC Gem. Definitely a must see!
The Winnie the Pooh Heritage minute is my favourite one! I love the books and the movie. I even have a book on the origins of Winnie. There are even pictures of the original toys! My favourite picture is of Christopher Robin and Winnie together at the London Zoo. Also the introduction to the book Winnie the Pooh mentions this!
There's a Winnie the Pooh gallery at Winnipeg's Assiniboine Park, that includes an oil painting of Winnie & the Honey Pot done by E.H. Shepard the original illustrater of the Winnie the Pooh books and other displays.👍🐻
I remember as a child in winnipeg I went to a festival where they celebrated winnie the pooh and they combined it with the military so kids got winnie the pooh merch and got to see tanks and helicopters and get your face painted like camoflage soldiers
I doubt Canadians are put out as there are countless Canadian things that people associate with another country instead. 'American' football, baseball, Superman, Waynes World, My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Others with Canadian roots: basketball, (North American) Halloween, NYC's Macy's Day parade (inspired by Toronto's Santa Claus parade). And things we built at the same time as the US but are associated with the US instead: suburbs, skyscrapers, highways, burger chains, college sports.
I love this story so much. I read the great big old original version, before Disney grabbed it. There's a really sweet song, written by Kenny Loggins at 17, when he was supposed to be studying. Time well spent, it seems. I don't know if you would want to react to it, but I know you would love it, so I wanted to tell you. So much fun, Tash. Thank you!
Thanks for sharing Tash. Something I appreciate hearing is anything about Winnipeg that is positive. We aren’t just about mosquitos and being Winterpeg, we are also Winniepeg! 🙃 Not sure what’s going on with the Jets, I hope they pull up their socks soon.
That’s another trait of Canadians I guess Pooh getting his head stuck in that jar of hunny, I’m a Canadian and I’ll make a fool of myself to bring laughter to others
The cub bear was saved in White River, Ontario. I was travelling across Canada a few years back and I saw four black bears one morning. I was just a few miles east of White River that morning. I had never seen that many bears in one day, before or since.
What confuses me about the name is the second part. There was no mention of it in this video, but the Heritage Minute just says, "Why Pooh, son?" "I don't know...just Winnie the Pooh" That's a terrible explanation. But I've never heard anything better.
When Christopher Robin and his dad visited her at the zoo, Christopher Robin added "Pooh" to her name after a swan they met on a previous holiday. Check out a video by the RUclips channel "LivinRVision". Search for a video (about 7 months ago) called "Canada Van Life: Ontario Coast & Toronto". At 5:30 into the video they read from the plaque at the Winnie The Pooh Park in White River. It has the whole story.
I personally feel that the "well known" Winnie the Pooh is british, it was created in and for British folks. The inspiration, the muse if you will, for the story was a Canadian bear and not a bear of very little brain.
Unfortunately "bears" have been anthropomorphized (humanized) in children's stories as super-cute innocent creatures when they ARE NOT ! Ok, they are super cute but NEVER trust a bear. Foxes, weasels, skunks and such are usually disneyfied into demons, yet would be harmless in the wild.
I just found out that a territory of France Borders Newfoundland the islands of Saint Pierre and Miquelon 20 kms off the coast of Newfoundland can get their by a 35 mins west bound flight out of st. Johns or a ferry ride out of Furtune Newfoundland. So cool that we can visit France so close to home.
It is an interesting place. Their currency is Euro though some places will take Canadian currency and credit cards. Many locals know English but their primary language is French. Many businesses close during lunch, Sat afternoons and Sundays. I have not been fortunate enough to travel there yet but, friends have and they enjoyed it. They said they saw lots of European license plates in NFLD as residents from SP and M came over to the island to shop.
@@pvdogs2 It looks like the next journey the fiance and I will have to plan. Never been to the east coast so would be cool to incorperate France at the sametime. I wonder if Canada will be playing France at the world cup in Toronto cause that would be a fantastic time to visit.
I love your videos. I would love to see you address race issues. My mother traveled to Australia as an acedemic speaker. She witnessed racist action against Aboriginal Australians...she stood up for this Aboriginal woman...she was threathened with getting her head kicked in. My mother was a prominant First Nation educator.

☺️ Not sure but it may have been _A Bear Named Winnie_ (2004) starring starring Michael Fassbender as Colebourn.

:) WOW! THANKS SO MUCH for sharing! PROUD Canadian Legacy indeed! ALL the BEST and Cheers! :)
G'Day Tash! Thanks for this, love Winnie The Pooh, and the real story as well. 😍😢🤗😘

The Pooh statue is near the playground in Assiniboine Park.

Knowing how much you like animals, I think you would really like “The Unicorn Song” from the Irish Rovers.
You could have bought a horse for $20 in 1914. Harry Colebourn didn't buy Winnie he saved her from a trapper who would have turned her into a $5 hat.

My grandfather was friends with the guy who gave the bear to the troops in White River
Thank you for the proud tears I shed watching your reaction.
Thanks Tash , now you have me tearing up 😊

The man came from Winnapeg, but the bear actually came from norther Ontario
True, the Pooh was forcibly emigrated.

“Where Winnie went with the regiment” 😂
Winnie the Pooh was an Ontario bear. Go and visit White River.
There is a Winni the pooh museum in Winnipeg Canada

The name "Pooh" came from a pet swan that belonged to the family of a friend of Christopher Robin.

The guy talking about it i think is from Stanford Ontario
It shows respects

I’ve seen his cousins many times. Take a drive around Riding Mountain National Park and you will see a Manitoba bear.
Check out the Man Called Intrepid
Very nice reaction video Tash. Check my comments in Today's Video Discussion on Discord for more info not covered in this video.

Academic...my correction.
OOoooooooh! This is about the REAL Winnie the Pooh. I thought it was about President Xi.
Nahlah is from Winnipeg
Da bear.
Maybe a dumb question, but does England have black bears?
The original bear Winnie is a girl.
I think Disney's not a good thing
