The trick to this is using two drums. He is also hitting a metallic sounding thing as well and when he gets lost he just plays a bit faster so he can catch up before the ad. Pretty good.
As much as I respect Gadd as one of the greatest musicians (not just drummer) EVER, 1:25 or he has a MONSTER left hand (which he seemingly never had, but hey you never can tell!!!), or that bell has been added later... any live performance of this tune?
I think he playing ghost notes with left hand very fast using rebound of snare drum, but I'm not sure. I haven't seen any live performances with Gadd on drums.

He has played this fast samba in lots of other tunes
That is Gadd's traditional left handed grip, ghost note riff he is a true master of. Your ears can't believe it but it'a 100% Gadd perfection.
