  • This is a little trick I've been using for a while in mostly pentatonic lines. the way it's played means that the notes sound more textured and make licks sound a bit more complicated than they actually are.

Utterly fantastic! I've been trying to unlock these Gary Moore style tricks for years and finally decided I just couldn't play melodically with speed. I was wrong. TrueFire and other online sources either don't cover this stuff, or don't teach it effectively. Thanks, Dan. Genuinely. After watching a few of your videos, you've already unlocked a lot of buried potential in my playing.

Dan I've been a fan of Gary Moore since the first time I heard him blazing away for Thin Lizzy!... You showing us this technique, (some may call it a "trick" but you still have to learn it and get it in your hands and fingers, your muscle memory!) In ANY event you have solved something that's been at the back of my mind wandering for YEARS...
" How the hell did that man play some of those licks that he did at SUCH a Frightening SPEED?".. Well, he didn't use that in all of those super fast licks he was an incredibly fast picker ANYWAY, but I just wanted to THANK YOU, for such a COOL addition, to ANY lead player's Speed repertoire!.. 👍👍👍

Yeah. He was a great jazz rock guitaist as well. Had that wildness and vibrato that was unique and so many excellent players lack. Gary's stuff with Colloseum 2 was so raw, it brought the jazz maths to life.

When I first started lessons back in 1994 I told my instructor that I wanted to learn all the cool rock tricks on electric guitar. While he did a great job teaching me all the important stuff (and lots of actual classic rock songs), he did not teach me the "tricks" that I asked for. You're already covering these in the first two videos I've seen, yesterday and now today. So it took me a while, but I found someone to teach them to me. Now I get that the basics are required to really learn these tricks (knowing all the pentatonic minor shapes for example), but someone needed to show me the tricks. It's similar to learning a skilled trade. Thank you.

This is very reminiscent of how Clapton does his fast pentatonic circular licks. The main difference is that he doesn't really travel through the scale with them, he usually just kind builds up to a climactic flurry or just throws them in to otherwise more conventional pentatonic runs.
