I get lots of questions about the essential oils in this. I had heard they were good for cutting thru the grease, but I’ve tried it again without and it still worked fine! Don’t stress it if you don’t have the oils!
If you wet the pan with water or vinegar first the baking soda will stick to the pan and then you can spray it with the vinegar. You will also use less this way.

Thank you for making this videos, and for all your helpful videos thus far. I want to let you and everyone else know that whenever I need to scrape ANY tiny crevice, I use those little plastic tasting spoons. They come in all sizes on eBay, and you can use them to remove the lime around faucets, stubborn stains in toilets, stuck on grease on drip pans, (use a wet paste of Bon-Ami to facilitate the process) , glue from labels on bottles (using coconut oil as a lubricant after removing the paper part of the label, fry pans, coffee pots, and hundreds of other things. The best part is they don't scratch ANY type of surface, (that I've discovered so far). Finding something that wouldn't mar the enamel on a beautiful old stove was the reason I went to a plastic spoon in the first place! It was a simple picnic spoon, but the tasting spoons work SO MUCH BETTER! (Note that I don't use Teflon, so I cannot attest to their effectiveness on that product). Best of all, when their edges get worn out, they are cheap enough to grab another for your next project!
I use this method as well but I lightly mist the pan with water then shake off the excess before sprinkling the baking soda on. The baking soda catches the first time, after spraying the vinegar water on, I dont need to reapply the baking soda. Great method.
So, chemically, you have limonene - a great grease cutter - and the action of a baking-soda-and-vinegar paste, which amounts to a carbonic acid paste until the CO2 leaves the morass. Hm ... seems like a cheap way to do this. I would probably just get "Simple Green", which is a dynamite degreaser, and then add some beer - so the guys won't mind doing it - and you should get similar results. Steel wool will score the pan so that the next cleaning will be quite a bit more difficult. Try Kosher salt and a cloth for the abrasive. That works on cast iron pans. To keep from doing this ever, put aluminium foil around the pans, and replace monthly. :D Didn't mean to hijack your wonderful video, but it got me to thinking, and I like thinking and teaching.
Great information! Thanks for sharing the scientific aspect of it. I hope that the guys watching are secure enough in their masculinity that they don't feel like they have to spend extra on beer to avoid using the ever-effeminate vinegar lol!
Thanks! Will try this. These drip pans are expensive to buy on their own. Like $5 or $7 a piece, depending on the size. I think in the future, I will wrap them in aluminum foil, so I can simply change the aluminum foil when they get grimy.
I feel like this helped me, I just recently started to clean a lot of spots that get over looked, and I don’t have baking soda or distilled vinegar but that is def something I am going to add into my chemical drawer, along side with some others ❤️ thanks for this!
Hi. Today I was cleaning my electric cooking top...and it was so difficult to clean the drip pans. ..so now was searching youtube for a solution and thank you so much for uploading this video. It is so helpful. I will try this next time. thank you once again. Bye :)
my method for keeping the stove top nice and shiny is to buy TWO sets of pans, (they aren't that expensive), and use one for cooking, and one for after cooking, when everything has been cleaned up. I just run the "cooking" set through the dishwasher if I have to, because they will be constantly stained and who has time for all that ? Thanx for this video.
that is awesome and just too funny as i was in the process of cleaning mine and tried to google how to foil line the drip pans! thank you and i will try this for sure!!!
This worked well on moderately soiled pans, but did little to clean a badly soiled one. I even left the stuff on overnight, then reapplied it the next morning. Not much difference. I sprayed the vinegar on first. That gave the soda something to cling to. Then I gave it another spritz of vinegar. I didn't have any essential oil. I don't think it would have helped on the three pans that cleaned up well without it.
You can, but it will require a lot of elbow grease, so I don’t clean my oven this way! Angela Brown has a great tutorial on her channel about how she cleans ovens as a professional housekeeper. I use her method for oven cleaning!
Thank you so much. It worked well. I only used the vinegar, baking soda and a plastic scrub brush. I applied th vinegar and baking soda paste. Then put the pan in a plastic grocery bag. I waited 2 hours then scrubbed it clean.
I don’t have any personal experience with enamel drip pans, but I’m worried the steel wool would be too abrasive. Maybe try Scrub Daddy power paste? It’s pretty gentle but effective on other things I’ve used it for.
Someone taught me to cover the drip pans with aluminum foil, then replace the foil every so often. Obviously I was told after the fact, so I am here. Going to give this a try
Best of luck! The lemon juice might be a little sticky so if you don’t get the result you want, try again without it. When I made this video, I had been lead to believe the essential oils were necessary for this but I have since tried it without and it worked fine. I think they probably just help with the vinegar smell.
what is the purpose of the essential oils? do I have to use them for this to work? can I do the whole method in the sink to keep mess at bay? and what if after mixture is added to pan I place them in a baggie? thanks!
I found out from another video if you put your drip pan in a ziplock bag and add ammonia in the bag, zip it shut and put it outside for 24hr all you have to do is just dump it out afterwards and just wash it off with dish soap and water and rinse. I don’t have to scrub at all!
Wow you did it the hard way. I got out my gloves and Nevr Dull and cleaned 4 drip pans on my stove in under 10 minutes got everything off the first time washed them, rinsed them dried them and had my stove together before maintenance arrived. My drip pans look like I just bought brand new ones.
When vinegar and baking soda are first mixed together, hydrogen ions in the vinegar react with the sodium and bicarbonate ions in the baking soda. The result of this initial reaction is two new chemicals: carbonic acid and sodium acetate.
I’ve read on so many DIY cleaning sites that mixing baking soda and vinegar simply creates a salt water solution and is ineffective. They advise to use both, but separately. What’s your opinion?
That's why I didn't mix the baking soda first! Any recipe that tells you to mix baking soda and vinegar and then apply it is essentially just making salt water. With the process I used in this video, having that neutralizing reaction bubbling on the drip pans felt like it helped work some of the gunk off (kinda like the cleaner scrubbing bubbles) while still leaving enough baking soda to absorb some grease and be used as an abrasive later in the process. Hope that answers your question!
Looks fantastic. Gonna try it tomorrow. Baking soda and peroxide toothpaste works well too. i tried it a month ago. Im using another toothpaste now without baking soda and peroxide. It doesnt work. Your method sounds more cost effective.
great job but I have to agree with most people have no patience to hard. I did it and it works for me and its safe and cheap. You can use peroxide if you have no vinegar or lemon juice. If one likes oven cleaner, hm.. actually ruined the finish and never shined again. I hear from a restaurant cook theres is carbon off at restaurant suppliers to use on those and bottom of nasty burnt on pot bottoms so for those who like to spray and pay use carbon off. Otherwise I like this method daily so it doesnt build up baking soda alone will work well daily.
In theory, it's supposed to help break down grease. In reality, I think it just makes the vinegar smell better. Since filming I've tried it without the oil and it still worked.
Yeah, I'd probably steer clear of steel wool on the stove top itself since it would damage the finish. I think I'd give Bar Keeper's Friend (the powdered kind) a try with a scrubber sponge. If that doesn't work, there's this stuff from the dollar tree called LA's Totally Awesome that's basically a nuke. I've gotten mechanic's grease out of carpet with that stuff. Just make sure you have good ventilation when you use it.
katya rose Yikes! I'd try to peel off as much of the foil as you can. Then for the smaller pieces the abrasive nature of a steel wool pad should help get those off. The baking soda and vinegar wouldn't have as much as an effect as the steel wool, so start with just that! Hope that helps!
Mel Finehout OMG! That sounds like it would work but really expensive and maybe even a little hazardous to your health. How many bottles did you need to buy to boil it in the dish soap? I have several burners. I would pr baby have to buy several to make sure they are all under the liquid soap. How long did you boil it for?
I have stainless steel frying pans, and when they get really stained with baked on grease I put them in my large canning pot with boiling water, dish soap,( just maybe a quarter of a cup,) and baking powder. This should also work for the drip pans, I boil my frying pans for about 30 minutes and then take my scrubby and scrub off the loosened grease.
i have a drip tray for my conventional oven i wanna try this on but i also wanna try it on these drip pans too cause mine are just blah lol ill update this comment if it works THANKS for taking the time to do this
I waited a couple hours. It’s up to you, really. You can go straight at it and might have to scrub just a little more or you could sprinkle it on there and leave it overnight. The chemicals you’re using are gentle enough they won’t harm them.
Thank you I'll try! And no judgment! Mine were super dirty LOL . And in response to other people's comments, no I don't want to go buy another four pack they're like at least $15 which is ridiculous because they're going to keep getting dirty this is not a one-time fix.
Hi when you say let it sit for a few hours before you scrub how much is a few hours? Like full 24 hours? Just over night? I just want to make sure so I don't leave it on there for too little time thanks.
Homemaking Madeline ok thank you I will try this. Also do you know if i can use these liquids to clean my oven as well? The oven door inside as well as the bottom of the oven inside is burnt with grease and it won't come off no matter how much I try to clean it so I was wondering if I could use the drip pan method inside the oven? Just not sure if these liquids and stuff are safe for oven use.
I know a friend of mine uses vinegar and baking soda to clean her oven! Although I don't know why lemon wouldn't be safe, since I don't have any research on that, I'd suggest just sticking with the vinegar and baking soda.
Wow! Great job and great video :) I like your personality- sweet and straight to the point. I’m about to try this. I think I will make a paste instead and let it sit for a bit.. is the essential oil just for scent?
Thanks! Yeah, it is. When I first tried this, I was told the oils helped cut the grease a lot and believed it but a couple months later, I repeated the process without the oils and it worked just as well.
Worked great! But I'm quite sure that what you called steel wool is a stainless steel pot scrubber. A steel wool pad might take away the shininess of your pans.
Jessica Luna I haven't tried it. TBH, I've had a gas range for over a year now so I haven't been able to test other ways of doing this. I think the steel wool is probably your best bet since it is so abrasive.
+John Spampinato It works with just baking soda and vinegar, the essential oil is just to help cut the grease easier. But the baking soda and vinegar are the bread and butter of this method.
Best way ever is a soak in soapy water followed by a soapy steel wool. I just buy plain steel wools and charge it with dish detergent when I use it. We have little Asian stores in NZ where you can buy anything, for 12 we pay about $3, so it costs a lot less than those already soaped
I want to buy a new set, how do I measure....? what do I measure to make sure I buy the right size...I will be buying on ebay so I need an answer as quickly as possible before it is taken off the block...please...thank you.
All you should need to do is buy 2 small and 2 large for your brand of stove. Such as: Samsung, LG, Maytag, GE (General Electric), Kenmore, Whirlpool, Hot Point, Frigidaire, etc.
mine aren't so much grease stains but a bunch of different things gs baked on and has petrified or mineralized if that's the right word. I'll give this a go and see if it makes a fifference if not I'll have to buy a new ones.
The ones that were grimy like yours for me was the front 2 but I did them all , hey its worth a shot. While I was letting it work I raised the hood and cleaned off that was there to clean. Being an old fart dont know where I got the energy maybe it was from the banana smoothie. I will report back letting the result be known.

I'm glad it had that affect! I find messiness makes me feel anxiety as well.
Girl it looks brand new good job thanks
Yay! I’m so glad it worked for you!
I just tried all of this, but I used Lavender Essential Oil and it works as well. . Plus, my stove smells good
great job but I have to agree with most people have no patience to hard.
Fantastic! Thank you. You've saved me some money.
How long do you let this sit before wiping out the baking soda?
A couple hours. I think I went out and ran some errands, then came home and scrubbed them.
What is the purpose of the essential oil? TY.
In theory, it's supposed to help break down grease. In reality, I think it just makes the vinegar smell better. Since filming I've tried it without the oil and it still worked.
TY for your speedy and clear response!
Wow this is amazing they look new
Hey Great Video...U Think This Will Work on That Stubborn Cooked on Oil Scum on The Stove Top? Probably Steel Wool Will Scratch The Surface?
Yeah, I'd probably steer clear of steel wool on the stove top itself since it would damage the finish. I think I'd give Bar Keeper's Friend (the powdered kind) a try with a scrubber sponge. If that doesn't work, there's this stuff from the dollar tree called LA's Totally Awesome that's basically a nuke. I've gotten mechanic's grease out of carpet with that stuff. Just make sure you have good ventilation when you use it.
@@maddiejoy7896 Okey Thanks!... Yeah Headlines "Dude Found Asphixiated in His Apt, But Look How Clean His Stove is"
GreatJob!🎉
I put my drip pan inside the oven and turn on self clean. It cleans the oven and any baking sheets that needs cleaning. Works every time.
Joan Lee
Burn, baby burn
Drip pan inferno 🔥
Joan Lee I had tin foil on mine but they burned onto the drip pans, will doing your method still work?
katya rose Yikes! I'd try to peel off as much of the foil as you can. Then for the smaller pieces the abrasive nature of a steel wool pad should help get those off. The baking soda and vinegar wouldn't have as much as an effect as the steel wool, so start with just that! Hope that helps!
lmao.
Joan Lee lol 😹😹😹😹😹
I boiled them in dishwasher detergent. like new. but, I'll try to use this method to clean the stove. ;)
You would only need about a quarter of a cup to the boiling water.
So do you leave one burner in to boil the water>:
Why not wipe the spills as you make them?
Do you have to have the essential oils
My question too...
No u do not need the oils 😁
i have a drip tray for my conventional oven i wanna try this on but i also wanna try it on these drip pans too cause mine are just blah lol ill update this comment if it works THANKS for taking the time to do this
How long should you wait until you scrub?
I waited a couple hours. It’s up to you, really. You can go straight at it and might have to scrub just a little more or you could sprinkle it on there and leave it overnight. The chemicals you’re using are gentle enough they won’t harm them.
Oh my nuggets. This helped me out a lot. Thank you 🙏
Thank you I'll try! And no judgment! Mine were super dirty LOL . And in response to other people's comments, no I don't want to go buy another four pack they're like at least $15 which is ridiculous because they're going to keep getting dirty this is not a one-time fix.
thank you
im getting ready to move and im trying do a deep clean of my stove. this helps
Do you have to use essential oils? Or can you use just baking soda and vinegar?
Why do you need the essential oil, just for the smell ? Thanks
Hi when you say let it sit for a few hours before you scrub how much is a few hours? Like full 24 hours? Just over night? I just want to make sure so I don't leave it on there for too little time thanks.
2-3 hours :)

ok thank you I will try this.

Thank you I will be sure to try that then the video has been very helpful I appreciate all the help.
is the essential oil just for smell ??
WOW!!!!!! great idea and it works so well. I'll be doing this tomorrow!
Sharon La Tour and with this mentality you will forever be broke
I was wondering….
I really hope this works could you use a brush instead for the scrubbing part or a rough part of a sponge?
Jessica Luna I haven't tried it. TBH, I've had a gas range for over a year now so I haven't been able to test other ways of doing this. I think the steel wool is probably your best bet since it is so abrasive.
Which I watch this first prior to cleaning my drip pan. Do you have to add the essential oil?
No, it just helps with the vinegar smell if you don’t like it. I’ve tried it again without the oils and got the same results!
Hello Kelly
Hi.. is the essential oil a must or will it work with just the vinegar and baking soda?
+John Spampinato It works with just baking soda and vinegar, the essential oil is just to help cut the grease easier. But the baking soda and vinegar are the bread and butter of this method.
Best way ever is a soak in soapy water followed by a soapy steel wool. I just buy plain steel wools and charge it with dish detergent when I use it. We have little Asian stores in NZ where you can buy anything, for 12 we pay about $3, so it costs a lot less than those already soaped
This is great info. I’m gong to tell my mom about this for the stove. 🙂
Does that get rid of rust?
Magnificent job!!!
Thank you for such a great tip.
Ty this was exactly what I needed and simple
I want to buy a new set, how do I measure....? what do I measure to make sure I buy the right size...I will be buying on ebay so I need an answer as quickly as possible before it is taken off the block...please...thank you.
+Laurel Schmitz standard unit stove should be all the same.. 2 smalls 2 large?
Git ‘er done! 💪🏻
how long do i have to let it sit??? and do i have to use the oils or lemon juice can i just use vinegar and baking soda
Does the steel wool scratch?
