I made the choice to collect loose Genesis games instead of CIB in order to stretch my budget further. An interesting coincidence it’s that standard Genesis cartridges are about the same size as Audio Cassette tape cases. Finding old cassette storage racks make for a great way to display loose Genesis games.
Unless it's a rare game, there's typically a very small price difference for loose vs CIB for Genesis games since the cases were so sturdy.
I decided to collect loose to save space and money.
That’s an awesome idea for a storage system!
The Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo War is still going on strong to this day with Console Wars
People still like to debate about it for sure. I'm happy the fed of each others competition and we got to reap the rewards :)
One of my favorite RUclips channels! 🎉 "THAT'S IT! ARE WE DOING THIS?!" 😂
I’m a Genesis freak. Trust me, these are ones you need: Starflight, Mutant League Football & Hockey, A Haunting Starring Polterguy, General Chaos, Alien Storm, Jurassic Park
Once a Sega kid, always a Sega kid. We all knew what we were in for: once you signed up, you signed up for life.
As a SEGA boy, it’s great to see you have so many bangers in your collection. I personally have just started collecting them again, with a focus on the ones I remember from my childhood.
Enjoy the collecting journey. Cheers!
I hope you do too
I was a Sega kid growing up. It was so cool having the clamshells for my games when all my friends had SNES and just threw the boxes away! I had a protective case for my games!
Genesis clamshells are a gift from the gaming heavens for sure :)
Greatest Heavyweights is not only fun, but it’s maybe the best boxing game of all time. We used to have all-day 2 player tournaments. Ali and Marciano are definitely top-tier.
I am dying to jump into the Genesis Hole
Do if you keep going like you are you'll need to sleep on my couch LOL!!!!
@@GamingOffTheGrid yes please hahaha
I've heard Alien Soldier is a must own on Genesis.
Grew up with the Genesis after the NES, I have a lot of nostalgia for it 🥲
You heard my call on Forgotten Worlds! So glad for you guys, lets hope you don't miss your date with Cleopatra. Played it with my brother, great coop again. Thanks for the trust!
Boom!!!! Can't wait to give it a proper go co-op
@@GamingOffTheGrid It has nothing to do with my previous comment but you should have Demons of Asteborg and it's playable on the Genesis. You will love this!
Lol that "SEGA" scream in beginning was insanely accurate, how is nobody talking about that??
LOL!!!!! Years of practice my friend :)
Greatest Heavyweights is easily a top 10 Genesis game. It's not just good for a boxing game. It's a great game period.
I love it!!!!!
I said the same thing , evander Holyfield isn’t complete
For a shooter, you've got to look into Lightening Force! From the music to the visuals... it was very impressive.
I have a lot of nostalgia with the Road Rash series with the Genesis so I always recommend any of the 3 (2 or 3 maybe preferred over the first).
Another off of the top of my head that some overlook as just a mascot game... is Cool Spot. It is a fun little platformer that impressed me more than I thought it would.
Lightening Force is definitely on our radar for sure. Cheers!
Wow, those cases are mint…. Hard to find Genesis games that don’t look they were found in a garbage dump
We're pretty selective when adding to our collection. We've passed on a lot of cool stuff.
Man the Sega Genesis brings back memories. My brother and I always took turns playing Sonic.
Lot's of nostalgia from the 16 bit era for sure. Cheers!
I love Kid Chameleon, too! I dressed up as the main character, I believe his name is Casey, for Halloween in 2nd grade.
LOL! Dude that is awesome! I'm sure not many knew who you were supposed to be
@@GamingOffTheGrid You are 100% correct, but I looked pretty cool! 😂
Fun video. I'm personally not a big Genesis fan and sold my entire Sega collection a few years ago. I did pickup 2 cartridges again with Joe Montana II: Sports Talk Football and Street Fighter II': Special Champion Edition which I play on my clone system. I also have the 2 Genesis Mini consoles which do enough for me to get my Genesis fix. I agree with that beer review 100%. High Five!
5 random titles to consider: Haunting Staring Polterguy / Mutant League Football /Mutant League Hockey / Steel Empire / Soldiers of Fortune
We have Soldiers of Fortune on the SNES. Not sure how it compares. Played the Mutant games back in the day but it has been years. The other's I'll have to look in to. Cheers!
Very cool and casual collection video! Was with you when you snagged Dinos for Hire at Jay's. Good stuff boys.
Yesir!!!! I remember that :)
So glad you guys have True Lies. Such an epic game and one of my favs. If you’re into sports games, owning NHL 94 is a must for the Genesis. Probably the best sports title on the console. And that’s awesome that you have the tattoo for the Punisher. I have that game CIB minus the tattoo lol. Good video!
We have 94 on the SNES. Is there a substantial difference between the 2?
@@GamingOffTheGrid in my opinion there kinda is. The genesis version is way better. Sega’s NHL games are better overall in my opinion. If you wanna play a full season get NHL 95 🍻
You gotta get the Road Rash Trilogy. Split screen co-op motorcycle combat goodness.
Nothing like my favorite channel covering my favorite console! Good job fellas!
SEGA!!!
Never Heard of Chakan before 😮Feels like Ive been in an alternate universe. Great video (: I need to check out that decap attack video NOW.😂
Feels like a 16 bit devil may cry .!
The graph is and stx are mediocre .
If u love a challenge and willing to invest in trying to beat it. It’s recommmended.
Wish the sound and graphics was better . And the hit animations and reactions was more impactful instead of blinking disappearing
Ghostbusters was great fun, totes forgot about it.
Like Bill Walsh College Football, Tony LaRussa Baseball also has player cards. Very Cool. I remember as a kid being in retail stores looking at and reading the cases for sports games, and dreaming of all the possibilities, as a sports fan. EA and Sega Sports usually delivered back then. One lesser known 90s hockey game I highly recommend is ESPN National Hockey Night. Very fun. I could go on forever about sports games, just good to see some mentioned here in a collection. We are not all sports hating geeks in the retro collecting game. Good to see.
Megaman Wily Wars has 16 bit versions of Megaman 1-3. Plus you unlock the Wily Tower once you beat all 3 games. In the Wily Tower you take on 3 stages and bosses called the Genesis Unit!
Everytime I see that slogan used now "Sega Does what NintenDon't" I think that's actually accurate since Nintendo is still alive.😂 But all jokes aside, interesting list. Surprised no SFs made that list.
Bio hazard battle is a fantastic shooter. The sound and aesthetic immerse you into a vibe. It’s so good. Pick it up if you get a chance. 2 player too.
I'm a IPA guy so I enjoy the beer reviews guys! Keep it up!
About choked when you said "zombies ate my taters" lmao 😅
LOL! Glad somebody enjoyed that. I've been calling it that since I was a kid :)
Games to collect and not sure if people have mentioned these but M.U.S.H.A which is really expensive but a really good shooter, Landstalker which is a zelda clone with an isometric view, and Alien Soldier which is a great run and gun made by Treasure!
Definitely aware of MUSHA. One of my best friends still has his childhood copy. He likes to make sure I'm aware of it every once and awhile LOL. I'll own it some day. Cheers!
Loved the video guys! The Genesis brings me back to my childhood. Still love the system and the great collection of games.
I was a nintendo kid growing up, but we we visited family in the UK, they had the "mega drive" and The Taz games were a lot of fun as well as Mickey Mouse Castle of Illusion.
Bubba 'n'Stix: A Strategy Adventure. Good graphics and a weird/hilarious premise. Keep up the good work guys.
-MAC
Sega Genesis is my favorite console of all time it's the console as a kid I had the most fun. I was big Sega fan love Nintendo also
awesome video guys and welcome back man i missed you guys so much
Awesome videos guys. Really like your thoughts on these games and introduced me to some games Ive missed out on!
Awesome to hear it! Thanks for watching. Cheers!
True Lies never gets enough love, such a great game
It is indeed. I don't know how the SNES version compares. Do you by chance?
Yeah your right bro True Lies is awesome
Spiderman separation anxiety
Awesome collection fellas. Your boy Sabrewulf sent you Mega Man: The Wily Wars. That's me 😊
Great vid as always. I don't comment as much, a lot less free time, but I'm always checking out the vids. Cheers!
Hell ya!!! We still have it brotha! Thanks again
Anytime brothas!!
surprised to not see outrun in yall's genesis collection. absolute banger!!
Being in the UK, I remember Ocean made WrestleMania for the Amiga around the same time - I would guess they called it Super WrestleMania to make it clear it is so different. Noticed no racers- Lotus and Lotus 2, F1 and street racer ,1( plays different to the Super Nintendo). Also Dragon's Fury is a great pinball game - if you liked Alien Crush on the TurboGrafx mini it is a port if it's sequel
Maximum Carnage for SNES > Maximum Carnage for Genesis
Is is really? I wouldn't know as I haven't played the SNES version. Why do you prefer that version?
Good call on the retro sports games. I have a whole section of my game room dedicated to 90s sports games. Most of my best memories of gaming as a 90s kid are from sports games. When season modes, player trades, etc were introduced it ruled my world, and sports/wrestling games are still my favorite genre by far to this day, and heres hoping WWE 2k24 and Madden 25 will be better this year.
I love sega genesis but I also was a Nintendo kid at the same time. I still play genesis to this day and some of my favorites were phantasy star iv, gunstar heroes, monster world iv, beyond oasis, panorama cotton, pulseman, Mamono Hunter Yohko
It's a timeless treasure for sure.
Great collection, I love the Genesis. Sparkster is a Rocket Knight sequel. Suggestions: Shooters, Lightening Force, Fire Shark, Steel Empire, Musha (stupid expensive). Beatem Up: TMNT Hyperstone Heist, Paprium (another stupid expensive title). Platformer: McDonalds Treasure Land Adventure (no really, this is an awesome game), World of Illusion (because its 2 player), Tanglewood. Run&Gun/Slash: Strider, Life on Mars or Life on Earth. Racing: Road Rage, Out Run... That"s a good list to start you off with. 🙂
GOTG G coming through with more Genesis bangers🔥🔥🔥
Great video guys! I’m a massive Sega Genesis fan myself. I have both a TerraOnion Mega SD & and Mega EverDrive Pro to keep in the systems. I also just got a very special demo cart in the mail I’ll send you guys a photo of! Sega Nomad & CDX forever! 😂
You guys need the Road Rash games, Skitchin, and General Chaos. That’s a great game for multiplayer.
Great list boys! Excited to jump in and try some of these. This will be my reference for games 🤙
Enjoy! SEGA!!!!!!!
SEGA does what NintenDONT Joe Montana Tommy Lasorda Arnold Palmer Michael Jackson blessed to see all from 1980-Now
Christmas 93' when I was 5 for Christmas I got the Model 1 with the original Sonic pack in. It was my genesis literally and figuratively.
Over early 94 my neighbor and I shared a copy of Sonic 3. Then in October they released Sonic and Knuckles. My dad went and bought it for me.
It was the first time I was ever hyped for a game and my dad handing me that vertical cardboard box is an incredible memory. The lock on was so cool.
I get why you guys especially Robert aren't too hot on the 2d sonics. Im sure you can understand why for me Sonic 3 and Knuckles is a top ten. When it came out in 94 there was no 3d, so many ips had yet to be made.
The cool factor was insane. Kids were eating Sonic ice cream. Halloween costumes, bookings, lunchboxes. It was a special time.
Im not trying to buy every Genesis game but ive been recently buying the bucket-list games Ive always wanted but never had before they get too expensive. Crue Ball(with the motley crue soundtrack), Rolling Thunder 2 and 3, Sunset Riders, all 3 Streets of Rage to name a few👍
The Genesis has so many bangers on it, which this list does have some of. This was my first "modern" console (read: current) as a kid, and my first game was Street Fighter 2 Champion Edition. Still got all of my old collection too. I even recently took a really clapped Model 1 and put it in a clear smoke grey shell, it looks so fire.
Demolition Man is such a fun game, or rather two different games in one if we're being honest. Ghouls n Ghosts is one of my all time favorites... funny story with that one. I had two straightedge gamer friends of mine hanging out, I smoked a fat bowl of the devil's lettuce and put on Ghouls n Ghosts... I no-death ran the game through the "ending" only to realize I needed to beat the game twice in a row and said fuck that. My friends were thoroughly impressed, and I had only ever got to like the second to last stage or something before that. Shit, I was impressed.
Hmm... my copy of Power Rangers: The Movie isn't in the clamshell case. Mine is in one of the late cardboard boxes, but it's holographic both front & rear. It's pretty cool kinda like that copy of Xmen 2, shame the box is like crushed. I really should pick up a copy of NBA Jam, but I scored a Sega CD version some years back so it's low priority. Rocket Knight Adventures is such a badass game.
Back in maybe 2012ish I scored a mother load of CIB at a GameXchange one day, must have just got put on the shelf. It was Fatal Fury 1 & 2, Samurai Shodown, Shinobi 3, and two of the Streets of Rage games. Whichever the third SoR game was I got separately to complete the trilogy. But hot damn that has to be one of my best hauls at a retail store, and back then the prices were very fair compared to where they are today.
Some of the holes in the collection that should be plugged off the top of my head: Vectorman 1 & 2, Road Rash 1-3, Comix Zone, Viewpoint, ESWAT.
Four games that still elude my collection are the heavies: Castlevania Bloodlines, Contra Hard Corps, The Punisher, and Hyperstone Heist.
Here's a shopping list:
The Strike games (Desert, Jungle, & Urban). Isometric shooters with an unexpected layer of strategy. Probably not expensive.
Dune Battle For Arakkis. A RTS that I've been told uses the Herzog Zwie engine.
Mutant League Hockey. The funniest hockey game out there! There is also Mutant League Football but never played it.
Robocop vs. Terminator, as badass as it sounds
Shadowrun. Another different game from the SNES. The Genesis version is an open world cyberpunk RPG.
Love you guys. But my dude on the left is 'simply the best'.
If anyone gets this reference. We're best friends for life.
Awesome channel BTW.
Hey guys, my first system was my Dads Genesis and a couple games I would recommend are Desert Strike, Jungle Strike and Road Rash 2. Great games! Love the channel
Love the Road Rash games. I don't have them on the Genesis anymore but love the one on the Saturn. I need to grab the Strike games. You aren't the first to recommend. They seem affordable too which is always nice. Cheers!
Guys, get General Chaos ! It's 2-player awesomeness.
Great video, btw.
Sega Genesis FTW!
I’ve been loving metal dragon lately. Trying to no death run. Kind of need to adopt a slightly different playing style, but it’s been fun!
Also got their new one “Life on Earth”
Just trying to support all new game developers for one of the best game systems of all time!
I like your guys collection! Keep building it!
Great collection! I grew up with SNES, only started collecting for Genesis a couple years ago and have roughly 40 games which is double what I have for SNES because Genesis is generally more affordable, and has more arcade style games which I prefer.
Some recommendations to add to your collection are Dynamite Headdy, Vectorman, Thunder Force III, Road Rash 2 or 3, Alien Storm, and Comix Zone.
4:04 cheeky boing mekes me realise I am child lol
LOL!
@@GamingOffTheGrideven more so now that your reply made me realise my typo, I feel like a dumb dumb lol
Awesome collection! Always liked the Genesis boxes, but you guys are missing General Chaos!
First time seeing your channel and subscribed. I’m a Megadrive collector (what it’s called my side of the pond as I’m sure you know).
I think it’s cool that you both seem a little young to have been into the Genesis in its day, but you appreciate it now.
Love your collection, personally I don’t like multi game carts, just because I have an emulator anyway, so when I’m collecting I just want the original games, but each to their own!
Looking forward to watching your other videos 😎👍
Wiz 'n Liz is a lot of fun.
I am a big mutant league football and mutant league hockey fan. Just fun takes on the sports and unique for their time. Al’s the Vectorman games are great.
“Sega does what Nintendon’t”
Yep - closes its console division :p
LOL!!!!!!!!!!
That's right if you hold the mode before power up and you can let go at the sega logo i believe
I was so damn confused for a minute. I though my game was f-d up. Glad I looked into it and figured it out. Cheers!
I find myself collecting for genesis more than SNES . It's cheaper and the cases make it more worth it.
Gentlemen, I can think of two games from my childhood that I recently found and picked up again. Been having an absolute blast playing them and I feel like they don't get talked about enough...and that's Ranger-X and Battletech. Both are incredible in my humble opinion and definitely worthy of adding to anyone's collection.
no sonic 3 I thought for sure y'all would have it it's a must play❤️
I had NBA Jam on the Game Gear and I remember Charles Barkley being playable😎
love the collection videos!!
Genesis games I recommend are:
- Pulseman
- Wardner
- Virtual Racing
- Earthworm Jim
- Garfield: Caught in the act
- NBA Jam: Tournament Edition
- Eternal Champions
- Sub Terrania
- Tazmanian Devil in "Escape from Mars"
- Crue-Ball
- Animaniacs
- Jurassic Park
- Shining in the darkness
Bimini Run is unique co-op game. I like it and think you guys would as well.
We'll have to check it out. Thanks for the recommendation. Cheers!
Nice collection you guys have. Show us all your stuff one system at a time. During the 16bit era i was in my late 20s. I had all 3 main systems. Sega genesis, snes and tg16. Loves all of them. Snes 1st sega a super close 2nd followed by tg16. And being a fool i sold them all. But i got 40 tybtes of old systems on hard drives thanks to Christopher Shaw.
We did quite a few collection videos back in the day. A lot has changed over the years of course. So may be time to revisit those. Cheers!
I highly recommend Shadow Dancer on the genesis. It’s not a direct sequel to Revenge of Shinobi, but it’s an adaptation to the Shinobi series and it’s excellent.
I remember playing aaahh real monsters on sega when I was little that and sonic was my intro into gaming
If you like the aesthetic of Chakan, Skeleton Krew and Granada are a few you need to check out. Gauntlet IV is my vote for best co-op. 4 players and the soundtrack is banging. You can even play it 4 player on your hacked Genesis mini.
Haven't hacked our Genesis Minis yet. Need to for sure.
Ultimate Warrior was on WWF In Your House, not WrestleMania the arcade game. Super WrestleMania for Genesis at least had each character's special moves, which they didn't have on the snes version.
Correct I misspoke. I looked to my right and there was Wrestlemania the Arcade Game. I was thinking In Your House.........Just had a brain fart LOL
Great choices. Only a few suggestions - Spider-Man v the Kingpin is great on Genesis but better on Sega CD. Mutant league football and mutant league hockey FTW. There are early Revenge of Shinobi carts that have tons of copyright works that removed/altered Spider-Man, Batman, Godzilla. The Terminator because sega put them in there without authorization
Very interesting on the Shinobi. Gonna have to try snagging an older copy. We really want to track down the Mutant games. I played them back in the day but it has been years.
I love the Genesis! Great stuff
I was a SNES kid bak in the day. My Genesis collection only comes from the past year. Sooooo:
Spiderman and the X-Men, Sonic 2, Sonic Spinball, X-Men, TMNT Hyperstone Heist, 6-Pak, Altered Beast, Mortal Kombat, Cool Spot, Lion King, World of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, Ghostbusters, Robocop vs. Terminator,Street Fighter II Champion Edition, Clue, F22 Interceptor.
I also have the Genesis mini a a couple colletions on PS3 and Switch, but I can't really count those.
That's not bad at all dude. You've got some rippers
I think Alien 3 and College Slam are also must own on the Genesis!
I was just watching one of y'all's videos on the sega Genesis mini yesterday! I cant decide if I want a mini or go all in and get the actual system.
Depends how deep you want to dive in. The mini is a great way to scratch the itch but there's just something about original hardware on a CRT that we love.
Very nice collection guys!
Battletoads on the Genesis is a great game.
Great collection! I grew up with a Genesis so this hits all the nostalgia for me! I never knew how good I had it with the Genesis version of WWF Super WrestleMania roster LOL! I had all the Genesis WWF games! The sports games were amazing for the console plus the Road Rash series! Cheers Guys!
seriously here in europe we never got the cards in college football 😪
Damn that sucks
Wow, I remember getting my very first sega genesis in 1989 with a pack-in of Altered beast! Still have it till this day!!❤❤❤
How about adding Strider n crusader of centy😊
Hell ya! Cheers to hanging on to it for all these years!
😊💯💯💯💫@@GamingOffTheGrid
Greatest heavyweights is my favorite boxing game of all time!!! Still creating boxers on that game since it came out lol
Hell ya!!!!
I love this video. I looked into mine I have 194 genesis games and 82 of mine are cib. But some of those big ones O don't have but great collection and would see more of these. Maybe a saturn. Love the channel. Have influenza A and the video got my mind of it a little thanks guys.
Good luck brotha! I’m battling tonsillitis right now. It’s been a rough couple days. Hang in there
@GamingOffTheGrid wow, that is rough. I hope you have a speedy recovery. Thanks, I appreciate that.
I recently played Steel Empire on Genesis. Horizontal shooter. It’s got a golden age Rocketeer or Sky Captain type look to it. Almost steampunk. You can either play as a fast biplane or a strong blimp. Not the toughest game, but it’s pretty fun and looks gorgeous. Check it out if you haven’t yet.
Thanks for the recommendation!
I feel like you guys would love "Gain Ground".
If I had to recommend one game, it'd be Fire Shark. Others I think you'd like are Bio-Hazard Battle, Herzog Zwei, Red Zone, Phantom 2040, Championship Pro-Am (basically upgraded R.C. Pro-Am), and Saturday Night Slam Masters.
Definitely going to be on the lookout for Fire Shark :)
Sweet collection. Needs some Skitchin' though
Barkley was totally OP in the game he was like a cheat code
He's a beast!
@@GamingOffTheGrid I got a question can you do a video on the modded version of the mini? I was curious to know what the library and game play look like
We don't have our mini's modded unfortunately
@@GamingOffTheGrid Guys I'm totally sorry for coming up with such an anal question ⁉️ You guys have sponsors, advertising, and so forth.. My sincere apologies for asking an off air question.
You guys don’t have Crusader of Centy 😂
Not yet. We need to get right on that $$$ 😂
@@GamingOffTheGridin due time
I'm more of a SNES fan, but I think if it wasn't for their competition with Sega, SNES would have stagnated and we wouldn't have so many great games for either system so I still owe a lot to Genesis. It's why the 16 bit era is so well loved to this day.
Competition brought the best out of all of them I've always believed. It was a great time to be a gamer for sure. Cheers!
Oddly enough, I always preferred the Master System version of Moonwalker.
Interesting. Haven't played it.
