- Hi everyone and welcome back to my channel! If you’re new here, my name is Rachel and I’m a huge Eurovision fan, and I absolutely love Måneskin. After lots of requests, I’ve reacted to their song called ‘Coraline’, a beautiful heartfelt and angsty rock song about a young girl. Every time I listen to them, I get more and more impressed at their talent for composition and creating poetic lyrics.

Let us judge this song objectively - this is a masterpiece, both lyrically as well musically. It conveys all the emotions, it tells the story, and has an amazing melody. "Coraline, Coraline" is in my head all day...Don't think there is a better rock ballad on this side of the millennium !

This song’s lyrics are actually waaay more depressing than any song, not even Torna a casa has the same sadness, especially because Damiano said that this is a true story made as a fairytale which is heartbreaking.

Every time I listen to this song I get goosebumps and I feel on the verge of tears.. The voice, the music, the rhythm.. they help you immersing in those powerful lyrics which tell you a very sad story, without drowning them. This is a masterpiece.

The song is based on a friend of Damiano's,that he tried to help, who then committed suicide, was a victim of sexual abuse by her father. Anyway the "castle" is the cementary/grave,where nobody can't hurt you anymore.

It's actually wrong. Damiano answered a lot of question about it, and he said it doesn't want to get to personal. This like a fairy tail, but where the prince wasn't able to save the princess. He never mentioned a friend, he said it's something we can interpret as we like. He probably lived something realted to this, o a friend of him did, but we don't actually know. He never said anything about it.

Finally a reaction from a competent, sensible person, not afraid of showing her emotions, being so sensitive as well and able to understand the depth of the lyrics of this group compared to the shallowness of much of the production in today's music industry.
Coraline's weight is so heavy and unbearable because the truth she knows is so difficult even to name... Please go deeper into this and you will understand who is the monster she's afraid of and that keeps her in a cage... Thank you very much indeed for your genuine reaction. I quite enjoyed it.

This song is painfully wonderful. Ultimately, everyone sees in Coraline what he wants, a person, a feeling, a life experience. The power of works of art lie in being able to touch people in the soul in something personal and unique. I must add, as Italian, that although the English translation is accurate, the Italian lyrics is infinitely richer and deeper because there are some untranslatable expressions and verses in rhyme that make the single words much more musical. For not Italian speakers it could be a good reason to start learning my beloved mother tongue.

As an Italian person I can absolutely confirm that in my country there are a lot of great singers. I can suggest you to begin to listen to other italian singers besides Maneskin (who are great!). Italian music is wonderful.

Coraline is a fancy name for a real person. Damiano doesn't want to talk about it.
All we know is that she was a little girl he tried to help but the story doesn't have a happy ending.
It is assumed that the girl was abused and suffered violence, the depression that followed the trauma was so strong that it pushed her to suicide.
It is said that the walls of the castle are the surrounding walls of the Verano cemetery near Rome. A very sad story. A song that leaves its mark.
He takes you by the hand and accompanies you serenely at the beginning,
then note by note the sky becomes darker and darker and around the landscape becomes more and more harsh,
gloomy and you find yourself in a world of despair, the loneliness and helplessness of Coraline,

I somehow hope that this could be the start of a cultural "movement". Not in a political way, but in a "spiritual" one, that more and more people really value this kind of at, of deep thinking, and may just abandon all that crappy fast-earned-money-mainstream-pop.
It reminds me to the film "Dead poets society" - the same discovery of incredible depth in poetry - and actual impact to the real lives.

Let me tell you that Damian wrote this song for his girlfriend. When she was young .. she was raped by her father and lose the baby in her womb.. She is suffering from various pathologies and this song described everything so clear. So sad but very significant..

How's it possible a music lover instead of let himself/herself get immersed and carried away by the music and the profound lyrics keeps commenting on top of the song missing many things in the process (like this girl's enormous drama that's based in a real story)? At the very least, my dear and very sympathetic girl if you don't want to comment after the song, rewind pause forward. The viewer will understand better what you're saying as well.

(the Maneskin fable about adolescence), and its meaning
told by the Maneskin singer himself in the Rockol interview, "Coraline" is a song born almost by chance "in a hotel room.
It was me and Thomas. He put the guitar on it, I the idea of the chorus, which we then developed together with the others ".
"Coraline" is one of the most streamed singles three days after the release of the new album "Teatro d'ira Vol.I", a fairy tale that the band wanted to tell in its project, a fairy tale without a happy ending.
The protagonist of the story "Coraline", a little girl who does not find her place in the world, in a hopeful path towards the light, studded with dark moments

The protagonist of the song is Coraline, a little girl who cannot find her place in the world,
even if she undertakes a path that points to the light, despite being faced with difficult and dark moments. The little girl goes through an evolutionary process, in which there is no happy ending, but only a sense of distrust that distresses her and causes her a trauma on the path that leads from adolescence to adulthood.
Even the arrival of a man will not change things, as - even if he wants to help her overcome her frailties - she remains impassive to her pain. Thus, the young woman withdraws into herself, precluding herself from the possibility of showing her love, shutting herself in a "castle with such powerful walls" from which she can no longer hit her.

You missed completely the point here: THE LYRICS. It's the story of a girl who had lots of unluck in her life. She "lost the fruit of her womb", she struggled with depression and/or mental issues and apparently she ended in an asylum or a tomb (the "castle")

A lil update: this song is about his Girlfriend "Giorgia Soleri" (you can find her on IG and she has the name Coraline tatooed on her arm/shoulder) and this song talks about her disease, a disease she fought for years, a difficult disease called Endometriosis and Vulvodynia... She fought for years before having the diagnose and now she was operated and feels better.
After the Sanremo 2022 exhibition Damiano on his IG thanked everybody for Coraline and he wrote "and thank you Giorgia for letting me write it and live it".
So the final verse about the castle etc is indeed talking about suicide, but not referred to Giorgia, but referred to the fact that many people with this diseases would not be heard/diagnosed... So that's why many people commit for desperation!

This song is about incest on the part of the father. The monster that keeps her in the cage is him. This is the truth that holds within her ... she has not known love has lost the fruit of her womb (a son) many have not understood this. The only thing I didn't understand was Coralline In the end he dies or finds the courage to escape ... I don't think the ending ends well

I had a second listen and the lyrics really are so beautiful. very delicately written
Not everyone has to tear up when listening to a sad song; I'm quite sensitive myself and as nice as Coraline is it didn't move me to tears, it just made me feel sadness. I think she read all the lyrics well enough, the only part when she looked away was when they repeated at the beginning so she didn't lose anything. And honestly I'm very interested in her musical commentary, which is something other reaction channels don't give you. I didn't hear anyone else analyzing the time signatures in Coraline for example.

In Rome there's a cemetery that people of the city called "the castle". This castle has strong and protective walls...

I am a bit concerned about lyrics, I guess there is a lost in translation. The specific words Damian sings are not from an everyday Italian, those words give power to the lyrics through the song: vessillo scuro, spada d’argento, mura potenti. I was asking myself, why mura potenti? It is not an adjective for wall, maybe tall should be used, but he used mighty walls because they keep the same taste of the other expressions in the song. Vessillo is the flag used during war to reunite knights, carried by them to identify themselves.
So at the end mura potenti makes sense because it connects to the previous spoken register.
Then we have to interpret what is the story of coralline, so we know that she lost the fruit of her womb, but she never met love. Is that the cause of her anxiety that make her fear to go out? And the father that has nothing of a father told her the story of the castle with the mighty wall that I interpreted as an asylum, so that he describes the fable of the castle to her to close her in the walls where nothing will touch her again.
What I like it is that the song is an open to interpretation poetry written in a chivalrous Italian (chivalrous linguistic register).

The guitar strums in downbeat while on the "coraline coraline" part is plucked in upbeat, which dynamyses the accompainment, Also, in solos like this Thomas Raggi uses often to bend the string below the semitone to have that kind of melodic displacement: in a train of good notes a couple of them just sound somewhat out of tuning.

an the Situation (solo, Rock) 4th part - Wake up Coraline ! go away of
your situation Musik more acoustic, opening theme picked up - but with
some hope (The situation IMO is only described in a few words, i believe
some very unpleasant home situation because he father is not decribed
as good person. Everything what really happens to Coraline is about you
imagination. )
