    Professor Tomo- new to the channel... took to heart the "have I failed as a musician?" video and using that as a platform to review bigger life questions - I am corporate attorney and "decent guitarist" (with a lot to learn (from you!) aspiring to just play music... you are inspiring and an amazing teacher - thanks!

    One of the stressful things about learning how to play the guitar by yourself using RUclips. Is someone will go over something “basic” and you were lost like 5 minutes before that. And it’s just so stressful trying to find what that small nuance thing was that they skimmed over without name dropping or anything. Not the teachers fault at all, I just needed to vent. As much as I hate when that happens I feel great pushing forwards and trying to learn what that nuance move was.

    Once again the best teacher there is. I have struggled with left hand muting for 2 years!! What my instructors and other online teachers failed to mention is the thumb pressure!!! That was it. As soon as I used your technique I could play funk! Unreal really unreal. I think people need to go back to school to learn how to teach

  • @Kept_Crude
    @Kept_Crude 8 месяцев назад +1

    I think I just noticed why I may be struggling with this. You use the LH middle finger to mute the sound which remains more or less straight all the while ring finger and the pinky are curving slightly when pressing the string to produce the sound. I seem to have difficulties achieving that. 😄

    • @TomoFujitaMusic

      Thank you for sharing! Left hand muting! Practice more R 3 7 Swing Rhythm guitar. That will help you a lot! Please check R 3 7 Swing Rhythm Guitar! That technique helped my funk rhythm guitar!

    • @TomoFujitaMusic
      @TomoFujitaMusic  8 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, if you try to play funky rhythm guitar or any fancy rhythm guitar... it won't work with even 10000 hours! Because you need to prepare your foundation techniques that can support your musical examples. That's why just learning songs quick... wont work well as you are studying learning guitar.

    Awesome session. Over many years of playing I seemed to have developed some odd way of strumming such rhythms whereby I use no pick and kind of brush the strings with the back of my fingers and thumb. I guess out of having had to find something that would push me over the hump. So here, trying to apply your technique makes me feel like a total beginner! Tomo would you be able to cover the rhythm guitar in as played by Ramsey Lewis Quartet - Sun Goddess (EWF) in one of our vids someday?

    • @TomoFujitaMusic
      @TomoFujitaMusic  9 месяцев назад +1

      Those guys are so special & they have their own ways & it's working! I am more normal guy who didn't have any talent but I pushed my way through. I believe this way (closed) focus to play all the strings evenly and fast! And you can play less too. Thank you for asking!

    • @raffriff3914
      @raffriff3914 9 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, I've been playing both ways and I feel that playing with the closed hand connects more with the strings, it feels like it scrapes more. It also looks neater. The big toe would be more agile. I don't know if it's like that or I've gone crazy? @@TomoFujitaMusic
