    I followed every last step and the end result was great. I even downloaded the Softube Saturation Knob! I know this video is super old but I'm new to music production so I needed this!!!

    This is actually a great pace for mixing explanations. I like how you keep things moving. The beauty of RUclips is we can simply rewind over and over on our own if we’re not quite keeping up in certain moments. Great vid thanks

    Thanks Austin for one of the best mixing tuturials i´ve ever seen! I would love to see more about "leveling" the drums like you mentioned in the end of the part three video, limiting and compression to get even more energy. You are a thrue inspiration for other musicians!

    once again you've absolutely killed it man. I ended up with a Scarlett 18i20 and the Audix D series mics. can't wait to apply what I've learned to some of my raw tracks to see what I can get out of them. it's so frustrating when you don't know where to begin. I'm still trying to get mic placement just right. one of my main playing issues is that I'm constantly doing rim shots on the snare every time I hit it. it's a bad habit I haven't been able to break but I'm working on it. my playing style is literally beat the hell out of my drums which I feel like makes recording a little more interesting to say the least. I'm going to pick up an octepre mk2 dynamic I think next to record the band I'm in live during practice. but, first we have to finish our third album.. the only thing left to record is live drums.

    Nice! thats a pretty cool why to verb out drums. I would usually have a little bit more control over how much verb I put on each part of the kit. more on the snare... Less on the kick. its great to eq out the low end of verb. Halls are soo great with drums. I even sometimes use a plate

    Hey Austin! Firstly I want to say that you put out some really good quality videos that are actually really helpful for us drummers. It would definitely be cool if you put out more mixing tutorials and stuff like that. Also, I recently started studying Billy Rymer, idk if you've heard about him but he's a fantastic metal drummer, and I think he would be a great guy to do a video on for your study the greats series!

      For overall loudness, just pull up a Limiter on the Master bus and use that to get it as loud as possible without distorting.

    Damn man, clean and concise as ever. Very well done, you make it look easy. So on a scale of 1 to 10, how dead is the room you are recording in? Your sounds come out very isolated.

    • @abbdrums
      @abbdrums  8 лет назад

      10 haha

    • @Salfrado
      @Salfrado 8 лет назад

      +Austin Burcham is it a 10 because adding room and reverb sound after the fact is much better/easier than trying to eliminate the "real" room and reverb sound after the fact?

    • @abbdrums
      @abbdrums  8 лет назад

      Gareth Blyth nah I wish I had a more "live" room... it's just the way the room is constructed and the small size that makes it super dead.

    Thank you for this series Austin it helped me. Probably a silly question, but can you save all of these settings as a template, and then record straight to it so everything is already set right after you recorded? For multiple drum covers etc.

    • @abbdrums
      @abbdrums  7 лет назад +1

      +John Rella Yea definitely. Just choose "Save As Template" and you're good to go.

    • @easternavstudio5889
      @easternavstudio5889 6 лет назад

      Guilherme Rosa i gues this is just one time at the sum track! You can do indiviaully too but takes long time to get done! U can make sum for similar instruments! Like drums, guitars, vocal chorus

    I’m new to mixing drums. When do you gate?

    • @abbdrums
      @abbdrums  4 года назад

      I rarely use gates because I go for a more natural, open sound. But you could apply a gate as the first plugin on individual channels if you want that kind of control.

  • @drumken
    @drumken 6 лет назад

    and next step in cleaning the drum sound would be the use of gates.

      Not necessarily. You would use Routing for that and also you can adjust the amount you are sending to that track.

    • @abbdrums
      @abbdrums  5 лет назад

      No TrueVerb isn’t a free plugin. I have it as part of my Waves bundle. I actually just uploaded a new reverb tutorial like 5 minutes ago if you want to go check that out haha. I use the built in Space Designer for that one.

    How to mix drums if you are recording with 1 mic? Please help. I want to make my sound as good as possible.

    • @gnomik33
      @gnomik33 6 лет назад

      Sup man, i have exactly the same issue. You can
      1. Record upper part of drums and then add Samples of Kick and Snare.
      2. Record whole kit and replace everything by corresponding samples
      3. Record Drums as they are (if you don't have studio it will be fucked up)
      The biggest problem is NOISE. When you will hear your recroding especially if it have some HOT parts you will get it.
      BUT MAN, dont waste time and to it all with samples, it will be much better and easier, some eq, comp, reverb and job is done. :3

    • @gnomik33
      @gnomik33 6 лет назад

      + NO NOISE :3

  • @drrodopszin
    @drrodopszin 6 лет назад

    Also I would say that if possible don't let people record drums without dedicated room mics.
