This was a great 101 video, many of the solder joints I see used a weak torch and don't pull the filler into the socket causing a porcupine joint . Great work! It takes confidence to post your work!
cool that you removed the valves to protect the seals while brazing .a lot of other videos showing brazing did not even talk about valve seal damage from heat. good tip .
Thanks for posting, enjoy your videos.... been 25 yrs since I brazed last and trying to pick it up again. Have boxes of scrap pipe and junk parts and started to melt things. Trying out both the kangaroo cart oxy-acetylene torch using sil-phos 5 & 15 as well as a presto-lite air mapp gas torch handle and hose that was stored new longer than you are old! with Stay Brite 8 solder. Looking to resurrect some reach ins out of a storeroom of mothballed equipment. Want to get out of F&B operations and go back to maintenance. The bean counters finally bought a recovery setup so time to try and give it a shot!
Only thing I didn’t like was that Acid Away. Nothing belongs in a system besides refrigerant, and oil. No stop leak, or additives designed to absorb moisture or acid. If you do a proper clean up, you shouldn’t have to add something to finish the job.
I also wet the surrounding areas down with a garden hose or spray bottle with water in it. To prevent fires. Dust catching fire etc. Also keep your 10 lb co2 close by as a fire extinguisher. Or garden hose. Safety first ! Dad Taught me that ! allways ! Keep Fire extinguisher or Garden hose or co2 tank close by for Safety.
Very nice work ! Only thing i do different is i Allways put a wet Rag on the ground under where i am welding to catch hot drips and Protect the roof or what ever surface im working over. Throw a cap real quick loosely when having open schraeder ports open when removing blue stuff.
Which rod please? I think you stayed on your side of the pipe too much starting out and didn't evenly distribute the heat all the way around the pipe but what do I know?
Blade 15 percent rod. Yeah I need to clean my tip. I should have put down my first blanket to protect the roof. You only want to be on the brass side for a few second. I would like to try a hook tip to evenly heat the pipe all the way around. It will probably be faster and a better braze. Thanks
Where are you at that they allow the a.c. disconnect to just lie on the floor and to run wires not concealed within conduit. We're talking major electrical electrocution problem here. You must be in a class room, one of the most dangerous places in the world.
You need a bigger torch, and if you flow the nitrogen from the same side that you are brazing it will push the heat away from the valve. I like the video.
Ulises Palacios actualy i dont now what size it is, its nr3 brand name is Chloor, i use oxy and propane combination, to get the heat in fast especialy when you have a heat sink.
Does this push nitrogen up the wrong way and warp the valves internally? I was told to push nitrogen away from the valves to prevent melting them internally.
jonas salas there is no right or wrong way to purge nitrogen. It’s gonna go in both directions. Very small amount of nitrogen just to displace any oxygen. As long as you wrap the valves with a wet rag or similar you will be fine.
Rod was pure magnesium and flux was a calcium sulfide water soluble kind.. just heat the joint till red hot the coat your rod with the flux and make sure to get it directly in the heat at first to get the “capillary action” going. Youll know when it starts..
If anyone asks where the leak is coming from it's right under where you burnt a big hole and let it burn. Next shot nice gape. Rain water already pools in that area so thanks for keeping the trades working, by the way you didn't mention what brands you were using like flux, rod, the stuff you piled on, but the important thing was the tag was still there in the end. But it was nice to see you weren't a know it all
Anthony Suau lol yeah. I should have rolled it into a ball first. It's supposed to stick together. . It's from the the company that makes nylog , viper coil cleaner and big blu.

rogue warr thanks. I’ve learned the hard way lol
Wow i never thought of doing that. Usually keep them on
Not an HVAC guy, soldered a little plumbing, my everyday soldering is on circuit boards but I've always wanted to watch this done. Thanks.
Thank you very much for showing your welding so clearly.

david johnson nice. Thank you. I bet it will come back to you quickly. I like stay brite 8. Comes in handy in certain situations
Very, Very nice. You did a great job 👍
Overall the best vidy I've seen of this done completely and properly.
Kenneth Hicks thanks. I could have done a little better.
Here’s a tip. Use tubing cutters to hold back armaflex.....
Only thing I didn’t like was that Acid Away. Nothing belongs in a system besides refrigerant, and oil. No stop leak, or additives designed to absorb moisture or acid. If you do a proper clean up, you shouldn’t have to add something to finish the job.
If you wait for the lines to cool completely the putty will come off clean! I love that stuff,

just keep a full bladder, you can always whiz it out, lmao
OcRefrigeration,Hvac & Electrical. Yes sir. I keep a small fire extinguisher
Pretty good solder, I always make figure 8 on pipe makes it flow better.
Michael Lee I'll try that next time for sure. Thanks.
Thank you so much. Very informative and enjoyable presentation.
Good vid as always Ulises😽👍You don't have the zoomlock?...What a peasant😁 407C unit?
Jon HVAC I was thinking uh oh no zoom lock. Now there's going to be RUclips summit as to why brazing is still used. 😂😂😂👍👍
Nor-Cal Refrigeration & H.V.A.C 😸 People's panties are going to get in a bunch. Well thank you Sporlan for giving me a possible parody video idea 😁👏
Jon HVAC lol I know right. I might get one when the come down in price which will be never lol. Yup. Good ole 407c

OcRefrigeration,Hvac & Electrical. Thanks. Yeah for sure. I need to do that. I was about to catch the roof on fire lol 😂
I thought he was resealing the roof for a minute there :))
throttle bottle lol I did a little bit
Awesome demonstration.
put your schrader caps on loosely and protect against anything getting in. Good demo.
nota newbie yup. I probably should have done that lol 😂. Lucky I didn't bet anything in. Next time I will. Thanks.
I thought it was left open to release the nitrogen
so you are putting nitrogen through the line and its coming out in the air from the other end correct? you didn't share your setup for hydrogen
Excellent technique and demo....Thanks.
Great brazing my friend
You know I like brazing too. I'm not saying I wouldn't sometimes like the zoomlock either tho lol
Joe Shearer I wish I had one. maybe sporlan will watch this video and send me one lol 😂
Page 3:13
Should we reconnect nitrogen feed from liquid line over to the vapor line for brazing?
Nice vid.
Are you using oxygen as well, or just straight acetylene?
lambjack1 oxygen as well
😂
Which rod please? I think you stayed on your side of the pipe too much starting out and didn't evenly distribute the heat all the way around the pipe but what do I know?

Why r y brazing without nitrogen?
Excellent video. 👍👍
Nor-Cal Refrigeration & H.V.A.C thanks Dave
Awesome work. Keep up with the videos
Ruben Macias thanks
Nice video!
Fox Family Heating and Air Conditioning thanks greg.
Where are you at that they allow the a.c. disconnect to just lie on the floor and to run wires not concealed within conduit. We're talking major electrical electrocution problem here. You must be in a class room, one of the most dangerous places in the world.
Danny Calk the unit was being replaced. It’s on the floor because it was mounted to old unit. I didn’t leave it on the floor lol.
You need a bigger torch, and if you flow the nitrogen from the same side that you are brazing it will push the heat away from the valve. I like the video.
sjef oekel thanks. Yeah I keep a few different tips. I like the rose bud tip.
What size do you use.
Ulises Palacios actualy i dont now what size it is, its nr3 brand name is Chloor, i use oxy and propane combination, to get the heat in fast especialy when you have a heat sink.
Wait...the suction line doesn't require an entire stick of 15%..?! I must be doing something wrong!
mike_HVAC lol 😂 2 sticks will do.
what tool did you use to add the acid away for POE product into a new system?
Nice job ulises 👍👍
Pedro Rodriguez thanks
Como se llama el material que usas para cubrir la válvula?
Does this push nitrogen up the wrong way and warp the valves internally? I was told to push nitrogen away from the valves to prevent melting them internally.

Great video ulises. I want to grow up to be just like you..
Thanks for putting out the tips.
dizziedallas I need some
Tips from you lol.
Can u braze with schraders inside ball valves even if u out wet towels on it ?
Can you remove the core from the king valves? If so, would that be a better idea than using wetrag?
It’s best to remove then and wrap the valve also so you don’t damage the Teflon seal in the shut off valves.
Great job Great video
Clint Glasgow thanks
Bnas noches como se llama esa pasta
Hi, what PSI do you use on the oxygen and acetylene regulators ? Thanks Friend
5 acetylene 15 oxygen. Some say 7 and 17 as well.
@@pwalms65 Thanks
what is that in the bottle?
Put the heat where you want the meat
Nice! Awesome video man! 👍😀👍
Lex Vance thanks lex.
why not just use a wet rag instead of spending money on wet rag compound? lol
kevin maxey because I got it for free. It’s actually a pretty good product.
kevin maxey you have to buy rags don’t you?
What kind of rod bar and flux to weld?
Rod was pure magnesium and flux was a calcium sulfide water soluble kind.. just heat the joint till red hot the coat your rod with the flux and make sure to get it directly in the heat at first to get the “capillary action” going. Youll know when it starts..
it will be a 15% silver braze alloy with phosphorus (sil-fos etc). copper joint no flux. but he really should use silver braze flux on a brass joint
no zoomleak, uh-oh what's a man to do :))
I'm betting sporlan loves me saying that =p
throttle bottle 😂 lol how will we ever get by.
How did I never know that there was a pressure test setting on the 550 lol
Anthony Gonzalez it’s legit
5:10 . For real?! That braze looks terrible. Top it up till it’s got a nice bead bro. Don’t go back to do the job twice
What tip # you use on your torch?
KC 2 for anything under 1 inch.
If anyone asks where the leak is coming from it's right under where you burnt a big hole and let it burn. Next shot nice gape. dont like its brizzing ..so bad joints
this looks like a mess honestly lmao
Anthony Suau lol
Kinda. I forgot to roll it into a ball first. Works pretty good though.
ive never seen this to be honest.. lol at first it looks clean and nice but watching you scrap it of looks like a pain in the ass lol
is it reusable?
Anthony Suau lol yeah. I should have rolled it into a ball first. It's supposed to stick together. . It's from the the company that makes nylog , viper coil cleaner and big blu.
Anthony Suau yeah. You can use it several times before you need a new can. It will change color when it's time
Is brazing
Hi
He made the biggest mistake before he even started , touching the joint with his greasy , dirty fingers !!
