    Honda CRF300L:
    Balance is the key when riding any motorcycle. And we’re not talking about just balancing on two wheels: We’re talking about the balance between size, weight, power and handling that makes some bikes great-like the new Honda CRF300L. Based on our previous CRF250L, for 2021, it gets a larger engine with more torque and a whole host of chassis and suspension refinements. What you end up with is one of the best-balanced bikes ever for on- and off-road use. Perfect for weekend trail rides, it’s also among the best choices ever for commuting or urban transportation. And if you’re looking for a version with a windscreen and Dakar-inspired bodywork for a little more weather protection, make sure you check out our new CRF300L Rally.
    Hello my name is Andrew, My family and I love powersports. Just something about the feel of freedom and power you get from a bike or ATV. On this channel you will find content for the Honda 300L as well as our journey we take together in the world of power sports.

    Pretty good list, but I'd change it a little
    1) Tusk shifter
    2) Suspension (Ktech full tunable cartridges and combo shock/spring $1500 but worth it)
    3) Tires, chain, final drive sprocket
    4) Leave engine stock and running pump gas... It will last forever. Calibrate your throttle. Its a simple procedure of twisting up and back (google it) and should be done frequently. That takes care of 90% of the proclaimed ECU issues
    5) Leave stock bars. They actually weigh the same as the CR High Protaper 7/8 and have anti-vibration built into the ends. You only need to buy a different bolt when adding your Acerbis handguards to make them work w/ the stock bars.

Been riding an 87 XR600 for the last few years and it is a trench digger so if I wanna get down I ride that,but Ive got a knee replacement in less than two weeks so the CRF electric start is just bet ter for my health.I love the 300L

    Good video. And I subscribed because you asked. I have a 2022 CRF 300L and have added all the mods you discuss except for the 550 Performance ECU which I ordered and will be here soon. I also added a Yoshimura exhaust system and Ohlin's suspension and front fork springs. I think those two mods are important for performance, albeit expensive. I also have a 2-port USB connector which is hard wired in. The CRF actually comes pre-wired to accept this mod and it is well worth it. I live in Laos and do some serious jungle riding and having Google Maps displayed on your phone helps enormously. Especially since the phone battery isn't draining. Another handy thing I bought is a 10 liter rubber gas bag. The 7 liter tank is a little small. There have been occasions where I have been hard-core looking for a gas bar! Having an extra 10 liters strapped to the bike eliminates a lot of worry. I also upgraded the footpegs, air filter with high-flow cover & snorkel and the handle grips. Lastly, I put on a small clear windscreen which I love when driving in dusty conditions or on the main roads. It's barely noticeable and moves the air and dirt away from my face allowing me to drive on hot days with my faceshield up without worrying about getting dirt or a bug in the eye! And in Laos, it's always hot.

    Mine were ktech front (cartridges and springs), ktech rear shock, tires, Michelin Trackers, Renthal Bars, Acerbis hand guards. Finally, and the only aesthetic mod, a full Yoshi pipe. I'm 105kg, use it for trail riding in Europe. Tires were a must, as was the suspension, the cartridges may have been overkill but she rolls beautifully. I replaced the bars when I bent the originals.

    I agree with
    Plastic/composite type skid plate. The boxy heavy aluminum are not as stylish. The plastic composite offers more a fitted/more coverage and way lighter. Slid easier over obstacles. I spent a few more dollars on a carbon fiber skid plate and exhaust guard on my yz250 2 stroke. Made by P3 and are beautiful.

    I would have thought adjustable front forks would have been on the top of the list. But if you're not jumping at all it may not be necessary. As I will be doing a lot of highway miles I imagine hand guards and suspension would be my top priority with exhaust coming just after. I doubt I'd change the chain and sprocket as that would decrease road performance. But great video.

    Thanks for all the great content. Good list, and as boring of a topic as it can be, tires and gearing can make huge differences to how well a bike interacts underneath you in the environment you ride in. I'd also put suspension right up there too as a critical mod for off road riding performance.

    A well thought out list Andrew. I would have bumped the protection up to #1 though. The only things I fitted before going offroad were an AXP bash plate and Barkbusters. A later crunch meant I changed the bars to Renthals (Jimmy Button) and then changed to Michelin Trackers as the IRC's lacked grip in the loose rocky terrain I was riding. I don't see the need for power mods for what I do. Will likely upgrade the suspension down the track as the back is a bit hoppy and I'd like it a bit lower to allow me to dab through the gnarly stuff. And maybe a seat upgrade 'cause I'm getting on a bit in years

    849 miles on mine so far. I got a skid plate, Pirelli MT21's and I'm going to get the RC Renthal bars with Zeta handguards. The RC bars are about 1/2" higher, same width and not quite as swept back as stock bars according to my research. Just what I want and the most popular bend. I'm thinking lately the gearing is a little too tall for the type of riding I like to do which is off road and back highways. Never Freeway. Wish I could try out your bike with all the mods!

    • @MotorcyclesOffroad
      @MotorcyclesOffroad  2 года назад +1

      Haha well if you were here on the east coast I would have no problem in letting you take it for a ride. I did do a whole video on gearing a bit ago. I would say for most people with a taller rear tire (most good ones are) try out a 45 rear and see how you like is.

  • @Alaska_MD
    @Alaska_MD Год назад

    Great video. I disagree with the tires thing. Those tires you have really don't corner well. I had a Kim 350 exec-f and it was amazing, but on the road it was sketchy in the turns. The 300L is so smooth in turns. I was following an R6 down a mountain last weekend... very twisty so his speed didn't matter. He was hanging off the bike working every turn, and I was just leisurely leaning into the turns and stayed right on him... and I'm in intermediate rider... not advanced. I'm afraid now to change the tires, because I don't want to go back to the KTM experience.

    As always, good video!
    For me the most transformational and enjoyable upgrade for the CRF 300 L is a proper suspension upgrade front and rear. 2nd important is ergonomics (handlebar, footpegs and/or seat). 3rd is protection (handguards, crash plate). 4th are any investments in a lighter bike (you can easily shed of 6 kg, more will get expensive). 5th (maybe most important) any investment in your rider fitness and skills.
    Tires are not really an upgrade, but just a question of purpose and flavor. The IRC stock tires are a very good on- and off-road, no need for instant replacement if both use cases are on your list.

    • @MotorcyclesOffroad
      @MotorcyclesOffroad  2 года назад +3

      Thank you for the comment. I will have to respectfully disagree, Suspension is expensive and the majority of riders do not need it. I feel tires are the most important depending on where you ride, for me sand and clay like mud you cannot used the stock tires offroad. I feel the stock tires will begin habit forming poor skills as well as loss of confidence particularly in new riders. This video is mainly for the lowest cost total to make the biggest changes in the Honda crf300L.

    I’ve just bought a 300L 100% original the modifications you recommended are to me very logical I’ve not used my 300L as I’ve also have KTM250EXC 6 day which I love however the reason I got the 300L is so that I can ride on the main roads between the dirt tracks with the added benefit of lower maintenance intervals be interesting to see if the 300L works for me…!!! I live in Laos so no highways most of the tarmac roads are pretty bad almost like dirt tracks so the 300 should be great fun here let’s see…!!’

      Well for your situation the 300L is perfect. I really love the idea of the long service intervals and low maintenance of this motorcycle. Thank you for the comment.

    Any good crash bars/cage for 300L?

    • @MotorcyclesOffroad
      @MotorcyclesOffroad  2 года назад

      I wouldnt personally use crash bars on the 300L only the rally. The 300L is more of a dual sport and for the type of riding it is intended for you would not want to add the extra weight. Also only the rally has the ferrings that are likely to break.

    I think it's insane that it doesn't already come with a skid plate. I believe they really want you to spend the extra money on these upgrades on purpose.. and if you get all of them plus a really expensive suspension.. your almost paying for a 450RL! lol

    • @MotorcyclesOffroad
      @MotorcyclesOffroad  Год назад +2

      So lets just be clear and break this down. So what you are saying is that a motorcycle that cost $5,349 that doesnt have an $80 skid plate and $641 total suspension upgrade for your weight (front spring and shock on ebay) totally $6070 is the same as buying the 450RL at $9,999. Furthermore these are 2 completely different bikes. The 450RL is a plated race bike where the 300L is a true dual sport you could ride to work all week and hit the trails. The 450RL has a 2" high seat height, 800 mile service intervals (8,000 on the 300L) and cant be used at low speed technical riding because it flames out and stalls. TO fix the flame out issue you need to spend another 2,000 on top of the 450RL. At this point you are at KTM prices but you still have the terrible service intervals if you wanted a dual sport.

    • @MotorcyclesOffroad
      @MotorcyclesOffroad  2 года назад +1

      Its a good question I have been looking into it a lot. As far as this video it is an expensive upgrade that a lot of riders dont need straight away. But I suspect before July, the only problem is I am dropping a ton of money on the rally coming that I have reserved.

    How is suspension not #1 let alone not even on the list?

    • @MotorcyclesOffroad
      @MotorcyclesOffroad  Год назад +1

      Well because I feel most people that buy this bike are not expecting to do stuff as if it was a husky or KTM. Most people want this bike as a road commuter and for gravel roads/light trails on the weekend. I took this bike though all types of terrain as documented on this channel and only adjusted the preload. I am.also 240lbs an adverage 180lb rider would find the suspension to be pleasant after adjusting preload.

  • @Streamlines
    @Streamlines 2 месяца назад

    Top 5 but suspension is not mentioned, and ECU is. Really? Bike rides fine with stock ECU. Stock tires are fine. Stock gearing is fine, even if you got a taller tire, you lose ~5% torque, who would even notice. But stock suspension makes the bike unrideable with luggage and downright dangerous through some riding situations. Suspension is on the top of my list for sure.

    • @wesleemiller
      @wesleemiller Месяц назад +1

      To you probably to me a 160 pound ridder who stays on easier roads the stock suspension works well,
      Now if I start doing hard ridding or for a heavier rider suspension in more important for sure.

    • @Streamlines
      @Streamlines Месяц назад +1

      @@wesleemiller 170pounds here. Stock suspension 'works' on easier roads, but even there it takes away from the riding experience, especially in uphills where the weight transfers too much to the rear. I agree that stock suspension 'works', but stock ECU for instance works better than stock suspension.

      I Disagree, this is the best value motorcycle on the market for everything you get. Honda kept it ultra cheap, by doing this people can modify the bike to fit their needs. It is a good platform/ canvas to work with. It comes in $1500 less then the DRZ or WR.
