Responsible hunting is the best form of conservation and contributes more to the preservation of many species and habitats than any other form. Culling is not murder. It removes the weak and old animals to ensure the health of the herd. In most parts of the world it is mans responsibility to control the population of deer to curb the risk of disease and starvation if their numbers get too high.
One stag is worth a £1000, how much of that goes back into the local economy and the preservation of the Highlands, where if it wasn't for hunting red deer it would probably be another sheep farm or commercial forestry. Hunting is an age old tradition and when practiced responsibly it is an ethical and rewarding pastime for you and your quarry.

Chris Britton in the U.S. there are a few dummies that are against hunting not realizing that the money we spend on licenses and taxes of sorts also help them have paths and what nots in the wild as well.

@@tomhughes5123 yes the forestry commision slaughter deer which is wrong, but working deer forests don’t. They selectively cull old and weak animals. I’d be more annoyed about the RSPB shooting stags and leaving them to rot on the hill so they can feed sea eagles which doesn’t work because they’d rather take farmers lambs. Proper hunting is good for the environment.😊

    • @wutangclams3203
      @wutangclams3203 7 лет назад +6

Shooting toward the sky is *very* different from shooting at a range. I know Europeans aren't typically accustomed to handling firearms, but this is something that should be common knowledge. What goes up, must come down. Never discharge a firearm in any direction that you're not 100% sure where the round is going to end up. Lots of accounts of people being killed by some asshole firing a gun "toward the sky," some up to a mile and a half away.
In the US, it's a felony.
Don't shoot the ground either, it will ricochet.
What you need is an angled berm designed to absorb projectile impacts. Go to a gun range.

Ignore the idiotic comments. Hunting is a way of life for many of us here in Canada, harvesting your own meat, in touch with Nature. I give you guys a lot of credit for taking part in this activity. To be honest, I really did not think there were many places left in the UK for hunting. Great video, and beautiful rugged country, much like my home here in Newfoundland. Keep the videos coming.

The first kill is often the toughest/hardest to get over. Even more so if your from the city/ culture that does not cull their own meat for the table. Once that sence of reality is lost of growing and hunting ones own food perceptions and expectations are things become hazy and rather distorted. The main thing is to keep the mind open to experiences and to form your own genuine opinion. The shot was a good shot resulting in a clean kill. The animal did not die for the sake of being a trophy but was utalized in the fullest compasity so brovo to everyone involved for that. This always a nice short film, I enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing it. And happy hunting.

    2. No, only very specific forces have ammunition with them in their homes. The rest do not. You may criticize it if you wish, but that doesn't change the fact that this is how it currently works.

When he shot the animal, it was quite upsetting to witness. But it was also very interesting to learn and see it too.

If anything, it promotes the idea of understanding where food comes from, and the concept of having respect for animals and the food you eat.
His reaction to the whole process is symbolic of, as he states, the whole "supermarket carnivore" mentality that most city-dwelling people have.
It's not portraying hunting and such in a negative light. It's promoting the concept of being accountable for the food you consume.

It seems to me that all of the Vice reporters that handle a gun for the first time have no respect for the weapon or what it's capable of. I do admit as a former hunter, that actually killing the animal I put so much effort into hunting is very satisfying. There is something very primal and enjoyable about going into the wilderness and coming back with food for your family. Now that I'm older I prefer to see wildlife through binoc's instead of my scope.

Braveheart doesn't even deserve all the recognition it gets, they reality I mean, not the movie. They failed to fight off the English. Ireland fought them for over 800 years and sent them packing their bags. Now Irish in the north of Ireland are voting for a united Ireland. Still though you gotta love Scotland... Celtic F.C

I don't see your point here...
Deer hunting has been part of european (if not world) culture for centuries, my good man. Since the 8th or 9th century(that point is argueable), men here have been hunting deers.

If I'm traveling for a hunt to another country unless something happened back home, I would be staying at least a week. If it's Scotland though maybe 2 weeks :) Hey that's where my ancestors came from so..
