People are alot more open to social weirdness these days. Exposure to different cultures and people of all walks of life all over the world through the internet has broadened the minds of society as a whole, so we're alot less likely now to judge someone for being "weird" or "abnormal". Internet was around in 2004 obviously, but it was just sorta starting to get big so it was still pretty common to judge people based on superficial things like that. You gotta think how the world absolutely destroyed the Star Wars Kid over a video that honestly isn't that bad, his moves were not awful he was just somewhat overweight and it was weird to see someone doing something like that. Slightly weird back then was a social death sentence.
Every MSM outlet took this blunder and ran heavily with it. Howard Dean's reputation went from "lovable American man" to "man with moronic scream" and that's all people began to know him by. Dean was loved by most and both Democrats and Republicans began making fun of him for it. Eventually Dean stopped running altogether.

At the time it was a popular naritive in the media that Howard Dean was a loose canon and a bit unstable, so when he did the "Dean Scream" it only reinforced that, then as Charlie mentioned, Chappell would put the final nail in the coffin. Which is sad and ironic because we (in my opinion) had already elected loose canons, like then Colorado governor Bill Owens. Who during the "killdozer" incident in Granby, demanded that an Apache helicopter be sent to the scene so it could rain hellfire missiles on the bulldozer and town, which displayed no aggressive behaviour to people.
The Bulldozer guy was firing rifle rounds at massive propane tanks and ran through buildings. It was very aggressive. Only luck stopped death that day.

HIs campaign was where my belief in american politics died. I was young, it was the first election I was able to vote it, and I was for this guy. This is as of the 2020 presidental election. I'm unsure if it's changed for other states as of then. But for South Dakota, in the 2022 primaries we still could not write in people.

We watched a video on this when I was in highschool. From the way it was presented there, the bigger issue was the rest of his yelling. As a result, it comes across like he's shouting at the crowd, when in reality he was hyping up a crowd that was much louder and much more enthusiastic than the clip would suggest.

In gov we talked about this. Turns out all of the reporters on site had not written ANYTHING about the scream. When asked they really didnt understand what people were talking about until they looked at the videos. It was all a camera audio feature that ruined his career. The crowd was actually much louder than you could hear in the video because the mic dampened all background noise. So the scream actually matched the audio levels of the crowd IRL, but when its isolated it looked goofy as hell. His career didnt just end because of a scream, it ended because his voice was isolated and amplified over everyone elses making him look crazy.

This is as of the 2020 presidental election. I'm unsure if it's changed for other states as of then. But for South Dakota, in the 2022 primaries we still could not write in people.

From my scrambled memory, Dean had somewhat Progressive views and so the media was looking for any excuse to take him down. The TV media got the call that they all should focus day and night on the scream since beating his platform was a more difficult task.
Apparently, he'd denounced the 2003 invasion of Iraq. But I'm sure that's just a coincidence.

We watched a video on this when I was in highschool. From the way it was presented there, the bigger issue was the rest of his yelling. He was being recorded with a directional mic, so alot of the sound that the crowd was making wasn't picked up. As a result, it comes across like he's shouting at the crowd, when in reality he was hyping up a crowd that was much louder and much more enthusiastic than the clip would suggest.

In gov we talked about this. Turns out all of the reporters on site had not written ANYTHING about the scream. When asked they really didnt understand what people were talking about until they looked at the videos.
It was all a camera audio feature that ruined his career. The crowd was actually much louder than you could hear in the video because the mic dampened all background noise. So the scream actually matched the audio levels of the crowd IRL, but when its isolated it looked goofy as hell.
His career didnt just end because of a scream, it ended because his voice was isolated and amplified over everyone elses making him look crazy.
Dean was the progressive candidate back then. His career wasn't killed by a scream. His career was sandbagged by corporate media on purpose. His career ending on something so minor was not a coincidence; it was a hit job.

Dean Howard was actually cancelled for the whole speech. He was trying to talk against the very loud ballroom that he was in which made him scream through and through, while the microphone had a noise cancellation on.
