I haven't done a river hunt since since I moved to Manitoba a decade ago. After seeing this video I think I will plan one for next year. Thanks for the reminder about how much fun it can be to boat right to the camp site.
What a great hunt guys. I'm impressed with how you guys change up area's, units, and tactics. I'm surprised that you haven't thrown in some time chasing upland birds and some fishing to boot. You guys hunt like family. Marcus and Mike, and Matt if he wishes, you guys are all worthy to carry on Randy's legacy, if and when Randy wants to slow down, alittle anyway 😉 Randy i agree. It would have been real cold of you to take that buck after he came up to you, shaked your hand and introduced himself to you. Testament to the guys you are.
Randy, you and your team inspire me for all my hunting and gear to be a successful hunter. Thank you for all you guys do and being great people and honest hunters 🫎🦌
Thanks for the kind words! We have an amazing crew of people here at Fresh Tracks. From the field crew, to the guys you never see they all work their butts off to create content for you all. We are blessed to have an audience that watches our videos. We are forever thankful for that!
What a cool way to hunt. River camping in gorgeous country...can't beat that. Congrats Michael on a sweet buck. Anxiously waiting the next part in this series and who gets it done next.
Nice kitchen mitts randy 😀 yes I am roasting you a little, I think you can take it. Furthermore its easy to say from a guy who deer hunts in SE, AZ when its like 80 degrees wearing a camo T-shirt and I only own work gloves. I also think its great you guys pass on bucks and shots that I would have taken in heartbeat.
We have an awesome crew here! From the field guys, to the guys you never see who make all the videos come together. We are blessed. Thanks for watching!
Nice buck. I enjoy seeing deer. But it has to be a good size for me to get excited. I would be like Randy getting a close look so you know what you're passing up. Bring your bow next time. Good video
Yeah I usually do do that. It was a really shallow spot and that was actually the problem. My boat sucked up a rock and it was stuck in the impeller which wouldn't turn the drive shaft, in turn wouldn't start the boat. I was in a rush to go hunting that morning and had plans to return and fix it mid day. But just kept on going, and going, and going. The next morning I took the foot off the jet, and a huge rock fell out. She started right up after that! It's an old boat for sure. But for the most part, pretty dang reliable. I'm also becoming a better boat mechanic lol! Thanks for watching! -Michael
@@Fresh_Tracks another RUclipsr "Do It Yourself Hunter" made the same mistake last year in the dark, and it resulted in his boat being pushed up against a log and capsizing. Glad you got it fixed quick with no other issues.
I watch these guys because they're so relatable...but Marcus lost me when he said "I've never had a Nutty Buddy". I'm struggling to think of an English speaking American that I know that hasn't eaten a Nutty Buddy. Where I come from we puree them for those lacking the teeth to chew em'. That's young and old. ;)
Michael here. Yeah I hear ya. My boat has been running reliably for years. And I do have a trolling motor that would work in a pinch. Had a rock in my impeller that I fixed the following day. I was eager to get hunting that first morning and had plans to come back and fix the boat. But Jace and I kept walking, and walking and walking... I hear ya tho, we had the safety net of having two boats and good weather! Thanks for watching!
@@Fresh_Tracks Looked like lots of fun! Cool you found some deer to hunt. You definitly went at a good time of the season and with good weather. I sheep hunted there a few years ago, awesome place!
What sucks about it is this video and I'm sure the ones to follow will probably triple or quadruple the amount of hunters on the river now and that location! I go there to get away from all the pressure!
Exactly. Jet drives are great for running rivers. When you're on plane you can get through really skinny spots that you would never be able to with a prop. Besides that, props basically have an advantage in every other boating situation. Jet boats used soooooo much fule its crazy. Thanks for watching!
I just am completely blown away on how people are in the field actively hunting with their guns either still strapped to their packs. Or in Michael's case. Wrapped with a cover!! Why????!!! Not raining not snowing. Why why why? So you can watch bucks run off? Don't get it at all
Open county in a spot and stalk scenario, while also using walking sticks in each hand negates having the rifle in hand. That means slung somehow. A most slings don’t generally work well with a backpack that size, plus this style rifle carrier also spreads the weight onto your rucksack instead of just the sling. The rifle cover isn’t for snow or rain, it’s dust and debris from the sagebrush and grass.
With a filmed hunt they aren’t as concerned about quick opportunities. The camera has to be set up and that takes as long as unstrapping, uncovering, and loading a rifle.
It is okay if people (other hunters) do things different to how you would do it. There is no reason to be blown away. Sometimes seeing someone go about a process in a different way, it presents an opportunity to learn. There are some regions where I hunt where I will always have my rifle in a semi cover; why?! I know that the area always requires actual hand and knees or even belly crawling for success. And I’d rather keep my rifle and optic clean and free of dirt and plant debris.
I think they are planning to be a bit more deliberate with their hunting and shooting then wondering into a buck while walking and shooting off hand in a hurry. Probably something most people should adopt.
Must be nice to hunt the great plains and foothills of the Rockies. Would love to see the fresh tracks crew hunt Deepwoods whitetails in the Northeast… Might be a little more difficult to locate and secure game.
@@tommyhunter1817 I know I would go hunt the Northeast. Maine / Vermont I think would be cool. I’m game for anything specially involving outdoors and fun.
Hate to say it Randy, but we lost Colorado, as a long time resident and Hunter in Colorado, the left is deep in state politics here, the only changes are those against hunting, nearly impossible with getting any help here with hunting issues, from the dow to the state legislation were not very liked anymore.
I love the whole adventure with the boats, camping and great looking country. Nice buck! Congratulations!

Jet boat
Cool ...in the mid 70s to early 80s used to jet boat the Salmon River and spend a week deer hunting in late November.
Sounds like a lot of fun!
Randy - that is a very nice new boat rig!
It sure is! Thanks for watching!
All ribbing aside. That is a great buck Michael!! I would be super happy.

Do you guys use any type of river navigation? Like Navionics for the river? Or just run up the river blind and hope for the best?

Rule # 1. Never push off the bank until you know the motor will start. Happened to me on a swift river.
I would love a nice 3x3 like Kara shot !

Who hasn't had a Nutty Buddy!?

Good population of deer there it looks like
Where in Colorado is this?

This country looks amazing I would like to know where this is. Lol. Probably not
Boat stands for bust out another thousand 😂

Also enjoy the frequency of the hunts. Where is Bo B?
Beau has been really busy running his business. We hope that he will be hosting some hunts in the future! It's hard to track that guy down!
I was just about to comment about shoving off without starting the boat motor first, then Michael's boat showed why.

Can someone tell me what rifle carrier he’s using on his pack.
Randy is using a HOWA Superlite in 7mm-08 and Michael is using a Howa 1500 HS Precision in .300 win mag!
@@Fresh_Tracks what rifle sling is on micheals pack? I like how it mounts to the shoulder strap and under his arm to the hip belt.

Lot of work for a 130inch mule deer.
Yup, enjoyed every minute of it!
That buck Michael passes first is blind in his right eye huh?
Follow thru on your shots. Looks like you're peaking over the scope to see if you hit at the same time as you pull the trigger.
Love the area. But dude follow through. Stay behind the scope after the trigger squeeze. But good hunt.
No randy. Mike's not trophy hunting. He just carries that gun for looks.

How many shots?
Accept the failing but for goodness sake practice repeatedly until you can do it under stress.
Great filming job on the shot… 😐
Why didn't you show the shot. . . ?
Didn't get it on camera, due to a "double tap" on the record button.

The camera wouldn't be ready for a quick unexpected shot anyways, I don't hunt that way either, but I'm not filming, so I get it.
If the boat engine had a known fault and the equipment critical why on earth did you fail to prepare?
