I still use FS2004, I've build my cockpit around it and it gives me good framerates on two outside displays. And I think framerates are everything, not only the scenery runs better, but much more important, the handling is much better, you feel every tiny input you give on your yoke. And there are other benefits too, I own a couple of scenery's and never have issues with new updates of the sim and then finding out your sceneries no longer work and you have to update them too(often not for free). Sometimes I feel like nowadays people not really want a flight simulator but more of a scenery simulator. And your now showing the standard fs2004, but with the right addons the visual difference between fs2004 and P3d is not that huge I think.

The FS games kept getting better & better. I had 98, 2000, 2002, 2004. Each one got better features, textures, etc. Never had FSX (2006) since my PC could not handle it. FS 2004 and the 4 CD pack, was definitely nostalgia. Had lots of research knowledge/articles you could read also. I loved the virtual cockpit and scenery. Flying the Bell 206 JetRanger was always hard but fun to try and master. It seemed impossible to fully master though, even with only a joystick. In the early FS games, the Bell was nearly impossible to fly. I can't wait to get back into FS when I build a new PC. Great video, brings back memories of 1998-2005

Indeed brings back memories, the Lear45 was my jet of choice, put many hours in it. Only addons I had was flight planner/navigation app, and an ERJ-145 which I flew around the world in. Had a few iterations of MSFS before that starting with FS95/98 (Flew around the US VOR to VOR NDB and a real-life map of the US to find the next beacon)
Got FSX when it came out, but it lay on my shelf for a while until decent addons were made for it. Am now flying 737s in FSX-SE.
Might move on to Prepar3d or Xplane once my hardware allows.

It's really nice to see that video of FS2004 - with which I'm grown up, too. I started with FS98 and now e've got FS2020, which is amazing of course and makes it hard to step back. But I ve still have FS9.1 (FS2004) installed with MANY fantastic add ons. FSX never run on my old (i3) hardware, but now Ive got an i7 PC (bought for FS2020) and FS2004 is running very smooth even with the complexe airliners like from PMDG, PSS, etc.having all sliders to right. Of cause Ive tuned FS2004 with a lot of add ons, visual improvements etc. Ive updated airac circles, cloud improvements. Some cockpits ive updated with widescreen versions, which are downloadable and there is also an patch for eleminate the 4 Gb memory leak (that makes you CTD after long flights or with complex add ons sometimes). It tool awhile to make FS2004 great again. Its hard to compare with FS2020 BUT until now youve got B757, 777, CRJ, EMB and many other airplanes with FMC etc. and they are full working with high framerates. If you look for IFR, FS2004 is still an option to improve your knowledge.

I used to have this version, but lost it in one of the many moves I had to make in the past few years. now have Microsoft FS-X on Steam. It still looks very similar to the old version.

Honestly, I don't think I will be on FS2004 for much longer. I think I will just head straight to FS2020, No X-Plane, nor P3D. FS2020 would most likely include PMDG, Zibo, Aerosoft, Quality Wings, Etc. Etc......And so anyways, I really Wanted to Get the Q-Sim 787-8/9/10, but I nearly smashed my Computer when It said for P3D and FSX Only. Btw, I have FSX, but I don't use that crap anymore. FSX is like P3D, where it seems to crash on the highest specs you can possibly think of. Honestly, It's time.

I'm still in the MSFS camp, but I have FSX Steam Edition. I had 2004, though. And 2000, and 98... I think. I think I even played one of the really early ones on an Atari ST, but can't remember which (it'd have been about 1988...ish)... yeah, these games have been part of my life for a long time!

I don't think I could integrate all the environment add ons (i.e. Ultimate Terrain, Ground Environment, Zinertek, etc, etc) correctly after so many years. Used to take a weekend to get everything up and running in the days before LM & Orbx made it easy.

@@AviationPro I was being cheeky. I was refering to the facts that FSX was an absolute nightmare for many of us with MS rushing it to market. Then we waited waited 1.5 yrs for SP1 which seemed to cause more issues. Then we waited another 8 months for SP2 which was much better. Then we got hosed again with Accelerated.
As that was going on, I spent about $12k USD on 5 PCs hoping each one would be powerful enough to run the program with moderate add-ons - oh yeah, and all the add-ons.
Now I have PC that will run FSX, but now I found out it will only deal with 4Gs before crashing.
Anyway, I recently reinstalled FS 2004 and bought 8 Carenado aircraft on sale, added all the scenery/mesh, traffic, and now the fancy avionics suite add-ons and the program runs silky smooth - and my piloting improved immediately. In fact, I haven't used Prepar3D in several weeks!
Excellent video btw. I enjoyed watching you having fun on the sim!
Happy flying and blue skies friend!

with Windows 10, if you have security settings on high, Windows Defender blocks access to save files, won't let you save flights. You have to add fs9.exe to the list of Windows Defender exceptions. And as far as I can see, unless you have security settings on high, everyone in Nigeria and India will be pestering you for money.
