I bought my kitchen aid mixer refurbished on ebay from kitchen aid direct many years ago and its been a beast ever since. I'm pretty sure I have had it over 20 years now with zero issues, great purchase.
That’s awesome! My mom has had her KitchenAid for at least 20 years and it’s still going strong. I hope mine last that long as well. Thanks for watching!
My mom bought a Kenwood back in 1955, not a typo, and I inherited it in 2010 and it is still going very strong. With a family of 9 kids, that mixer worked double time every day mixing milk and whatever my mom was cooking back in the 50s and 60s.
I just found one of these in incredible condition. It was a bit greasy, but I cleaned it and it looks practically brand new! It came with the bowl and all of the attachments as well. The thing is that I paid only $12 bucks for it. It was super heavy, but worth carrying for this amazing price. This video was super helpful. Thanks!

@@the.kitchenmom Thanks! I just made a flan yesterday and it came out so good! I was super stoked to use it and I am really happy with my new toy. I have a bunch of things that I want to make, so the holiday baking season is gonna rock! Thanks again!
If you find that it is getting greasy for no apparent reason-the cord and where the beaters are attached, the grease in the KA mixer is old and is separating. It will need to be repaired by taking the top off, removing the old grease, cleaning and replacing with new food-grade grease.
@@alsmith7569 I will keep that in mind but this thing was mint when I purchased it and I have used at least half a dozen times since I got it with zero issues or concerns. But yes, thank you, I will keep that in mind..

I was gifted with a 70’s-vintage KitchenAid mixer - it is old enough to have an ungrounded two-prong plug. You can smell the ozone from the brushes arcing every time I fire it up, but it works great and maybe one day I will replace the power cord…

I experienced exactly the same issue with mine 6 years ago. They shipped a replacement unit (brand new) and the pin was protruding the same way. A local repair shop told me it’s VERY common and to use large Visegrip pliers to press it back in. Has been perfect since then. They did include a return label. Love my commercial mixer!!!
@FatLittleOldLady That would put undue pressure and shock on the drive shaft/gear/motor, vise grips (or a clamp etc) would only put pressure on the pin. That's basically how the pin would have been inserted in the first place. If returned, it'll be a 10 second fix and shipped back out, likely as new.
Maybe I missed it. Did they send you a return shipping label for the first one or just ship you a replacement unit without wanting the original back? A simple tap with a hammer against a block of 2x4 would have moved that pin. Shouldn't have gotten out of the factory like this, but I'd be doing quite the happy dance if they sent me a free $800 mixer!

Ironically, I sold this brand years ago. When they were part of Hobart and then shortly after they were spun off as Kitchen Aid they were very reliable. However, after this company got some age on it, they began producing product that was sub-par. Their mixers for instance began to come through with plastic gears that stripped out under regular use. They became so unreliable I stopped selling them altogether. I recommend Viking or any of the real commercial countertop mixers out there today. Kitchen Aid ain't it. Crazy part is they look a lot like the original Hobart mixers. But looks can be deceiving. For a few bucks more you can still get a mixer that will last for decades of heavy use.
I had one built during that period when they cheaped out. It broke a month out of warranty. KitchenAid didn’t want to help at all. Found a company selling full metal replacement gears etc in Utah and ordered the parts and the grease. Fixed it and it hasn’t broken since. I recently bought an old Hobart and am waiting to redo that one :-).
I have learned that the lift-bowl style on all size KitchenAid mixers is much better construction. This shows up if you make a lot of bread or thick dough items as the hinge of the tilting mechanism will eventually wear and be "sloppy". The lift-bowl style is permanently attached so there is no chance of wear in that location.
I also found that the bowl on the tilt-head style would get stuck on me. The thicker doughs would spin the bowl more and lock it in a position challenging for me to get it undone. Thanks for watching!
So you don't have to send the first one back? That's awesome. I want to ask if it came with the plastic cover for the bowl when mixing? I didn't see it. How much it was if you can tell me. Thank you.
I did have to send the first one back. I just had to contact them to get a shipping label. Mine did come with a plastic cover to stop the spread of flour, sorry if I didn't show it on the video. I purchased the pro600 several years ago. I do not use it very much. Last month the mixer stopped rotating. I disassembled it and ordered a new beveled gear. When I tried to reassemble it one of the bushings for the bevel gears was missing. I could not find it. I think that it was never installed. That is why the gear stripped out, nothing to hold it in the proper position. So I ordered a new one or tried to but got the same one I had but the other bushing was different so I ended up having to phone the parts company to make sure I got the right one. These were good mixers but quality control is poor. The whole drive train is metal.
Yea, that was my biggest thing for KitchenAid with this pin not being installed correctly. It seems like a common problem, and not all that hard to check for before they ship these things out. I’m not mechanically inclined, so wouldn’t take it apart. But I would believe that it’s metal based on weight if nothing else. Thanks for watching!
Yes! I can imagine going over that speed with dough would not be great. Though, I haven’t used it over speed 4. Just haven’t needed to yet. Thanks for watching! Hope you like your new mixer as much as I do 😁
I'm still getting used to the non-tilt head. I very much liked my old one, the tilt made very easy access to the bowl. I don't know that I love the fact that I have to take the bowl off to really get at the inside of the bowl. If they made one with a tilt-head I would probably have bought that. Though, I do very much like that my bowl doesn't get stuck like it used to. The way the tilt-head bowl would screw on sometimes was a challenge to get off the mixer.

I’m not sure what the biggest one is with the tilt head. But the PRO doesn’t have the more powerful motor that the commercial one has. I know, $800 is a lot, but if you are doing a lot of dough I would imagine the stronger motor is going to last you longer. I also don’t mind the lack of tilt-head when I’m making doughs. It’s really just batters and the things you typically scrape off the sides of the bowl as it’s mixing. Hope this helps!

The pin was too far extended. You can see that it was not flush with the other side. A few taps with a hammer (or other heavy object since "everything is a hammer") would have resolved the issue with the first mixer. Granted the pin should not have been driven that far in but, it was a very simple fix.

EXACTLY...
I totally agree...
You're only as good as your tools.
If I were to just bake once in a while... I get the Classic or the Artisan or even the pro... but I agree with you that the commercial one even though it's $800. is a lot bigger and stronger...
Thank YOU so much for taking the time to reply to my questions.... You have no idea how much I appreciate you...
I used to have a little Cafe, and did lots of Italian food... but was always asked why I didn't do PIZZA... back in the 90s I just assumed ONLY Professional Business did Pizza... boy was I wrong.. and that's okay...
Now 30 years later... I'm more savvy on business and Anyone can make and sell Pizza... LOL
I am so Glad to have found this video...
YOU are a God-Send.
Glad to help out! You are too kind. 😊
I hope pizza making goes well for you. I have recently realized how amazing a pizza can be if you cook it on the grill. Truly a game changer in our house!
Looks like that pin could be pushed or turned back in further and the attachments would fit. Look at it.
Yes, that was the issue, but that pin wouldn't budge. Thanks for watching!
Good to know.
Thanks for watching!
It’s orange because it needs a dedicated 20amp circuit
Yea the orange is on purpose, I had just seen some questions on the website about if the cord came in other colors so I decided to address it in my video. Thanks for watching!
Did you have to ship back the other one??
I did have to ship back the other one. I just had to contact them to get a shipping label. Thanks for watching!
Do you get to keep both then? That would be nice…… twice the whipped cream with the beater anyway 😊
I did eventually get a box to send the messed up one back. So, I only have the one.
Commercial 8 QT currently only comes in red, white and black.
Must’ve sold out of the silver like I have. Thanks for watching!
I just came across your post, do you still have the bad unit? Would you maybe sell it?
I don’t. I called KitchenAid a third and final time and they finally sent me a return label. I really did think about selling it because I was tired of storing it for them, but my conscience wouldn’t let me 🤪
This could have been fixed in 5 minutes with either a C clamp or a dremmel tool with the right bit.
Probably could have been, I just don’t have those tools. Thanks for watching!
The pin was too far extended. You can see that it was not flush with the other side. A few taps with a hammer (or other heavy object since "everything is a hammer") would have resolved the issue with the first mixer. Granted the pin should not have been driven that far in but, it was a very simple fix.
You just had to tap the pin in a bit farther with a hammer. That pin is removable.
We tried to move it but it wouldn’t budge, and I didn’t want to do anything that would void the warranty.
If KA had quality control the pin would have been installed correctly.
You got a bad beater bar, the holes aren't drilled right. call them and have them replace the beater bar.
They replaced the whole mixer, so I’m all good. Thanks for watching!
How much did you pay for it?
When I bought it there was a deal for $749. Its $799 now. You can check here if you would like amzn.to/3Ng18xU
Gostei muito 😂, Serrinha Bahia Brasil,!!!😂
I’m glad you enjoyed it 😁
You do realize that that pin just had to be pushed in more, right?
Yea, very much aware, but that pin wouldn’t budge
That giant machine can make mix concrete!
Haha I’ll keep that in mind, but I won’t be trying that out 😂
Just tap the pin in a little bit with a hammer
We tried to move it but it wouldn’t budge
Good products. Lousy customer service!¹
Yes, I agree.
Lousy product. Good customer service. (She got a new one because the old one was bad. That means lousy product but good customer service)
@@aday1637she bought a commercial unit because the home gamer was crap!
What a shame for Kitchen Aid, batters don't fit.
There are apparently smaller bowls for the commercial mixer if you need one.
Don’t wash your attachments in the dishwasher. Kitchenaid doesn’t stand behind them.
I haven’t ever tried to use the warranty for an attachment, so that is interesting information. Thanks for watching!
They sent you a new one, why go on youtube and bad mouth the company
Not bad mouthing, just giving an honest review. Thanks for watching!
You should have bought an Ankarshrum. Kitchen Aid is a joke.
I have never heard of that brand. Thanks for watching!
You wasted 7 minutes and 26 seconds of my time and you still have not explained why you have two boxes now I will take it upon myself to assume you called them up told them the problem about the first one they said no problem you keep that one and we'll send you another one Am I correct
No. She had to pay for 3 of them and got to keep 2.
Watching the video explains why I have two boxes. Thanks for watching!
The big problem is that you didn't listen. She explained about the first mixer she received.
