Xrelent Samus' bombs might be good to sneak out of combos and her grab is a nice option to attack mid air, but all the moves you mentioned have too much end lag, making them really easy to punish :/ the dash attack is the faster but also the weakest

You have a VERY small window to avoid getting hit by his up air. It makes it very possible to lose to a bad ike player, which is always frustrating. Personally I think there are much more infuriating characters, but that's why.

Nah, it’s boring watching a character win because of one or two powerful moves. As soon as Ike hits a nair, the audience can predict what will happen next (Ike hits nair, hits follow up and will kill with up air or back air). It’s the predictability that makes Ike boring to watch. But I guess Leo abusing the bread and butter set ups also contributes to it, idk. Or maybe Ike’s kill confirms are just boring on their own

Samus did very well, but even I as a Samus main who is ok (other people say I'm good but fr I ain't lol) I think he should have mixed it up a bit more. More bombs, missiles to pressure, and dash attacks were missing. Same for up tilt and down tilt, but there was some in a match. Besides that it was very clean gameplay.

@@simonzhang7008 I was moderately good in Melee, very practiced at Samus, but not tournament level.. In tournament, I would have made the same mistakes, but I would have still tried more than he did. Good or not, he play was pretty basic and predictable. I don't know if Samus is still nerfed in Ultimate, but I still think this guy could have done more. I just don't get why he let Ike get in at all if he was going to do basic Samus, he should have at least stuck to his boring game plan.
A lot of people hating on Ike's nair as if it were truly broken. Put some respect on this man. MKLeo is also just the best player in the world. His Lucina is great and his wolf is no joke too.

It's because samus is so strong in a casual context, (which this game is designed around.) Seamus is straight up great in multiplayer FFA, especially on campy tourney banned stages. If they were to make her more competitively viable, they'd have to tone down her charge beam.
Complaining about Ike's nair? What about when Leo faced Light's fox at winner's semis at Glitch 6? Light destroyed Leo - even made him switch to Cloud. And fox has a NAIR TO UPSMASH combo and Light has been frequently placing high (sound at all similar to nair to UP AIR?). Where are all the fox nair complainers? I think neither character should be nerfed tho. Parrying seemed to be a big part of Light's success against the "ike spam" - so maybe people need to stop complaining.
Savante Estabillo I get you commented this a year ago but Ike has a disjoint and a rather large one at that and that’s why he’s annoying. Fox doesn’t have a disjoint so you can go in rather than having to play defensive.

Also, fox's run speed and air speed is 2.402 and 1.11 respectively. Ike's run speed and air speed is 1.507 and 1.134 respectively. Fox can effectively get in much faster and has faster moves. Sure Ike has disjointed moves, but that comes at a price - look how much slower he is compared to Fox. You might bring up Ike's airspeed being SLIGHTLY better than Fox's, but this is cancelled out due to the fact that both character's typically run and short hop when initiating, and by comparing the dash speeds, it's much easier for fox to do so compared to Ike as fox has almost double the run speed as Ike. So why is fox, AGAIN, off the hook? Maybe ten frames seems unnoticeable to you or me, but it's obviously noticeable to the top players - top player's have consistently stated how Ike is basically a parry test - this is made much easier due to Ike's moderate movement. To reiterate, a year later, I believe in this post even more as Fox seems to be outperforming Ike at the high level. I also believe neither character should be nerfed atm.

XZGears the boring thing is when moves are just obviously strong and win and other characters don’t have access to easy kills that way for no reason. At least Luigi zero death combo required precision input and practice. Stuff like Ike up and neutral air and Fox up smash just kill and are easy to go for. So it gets boring seeing the same moves cause they are so easy to kill with

Ike nair has very little risk and high reward since it is one of his few combo starters. Dark Samus could have won if he stopped firing full charge shot so quickly. Zoning characters are beast in this game
I mean, Samus actually has B moves she can use, whereas in all fairness, what B move can Ike use in Neutral? He can only use Neutral B at ledge and Up + Side B to recover. And counter is barely a move.

DBZD The character isn’t busted, it’s just a good Samus slayer. Normally Samus does well with tanks such as bowser because her attacks require larger hit boxes, but Ike is able to put distance Samus, so she has to resort to perfect set ups and projectiles.
Can someone please give me tips on how to approach Samus? My main options for getting in past the projectiles is jumping, dashing in and shielding, and rolling. But it seems no matter how much I think I'm mixing those options up they always have an answer. If I jump over, they fair me, if I shield they shoot and then grab me, if I roll in they have time to escape and at that point I try to read where they'll go but it's a lot of work. Any tips would be appreciated
Jordan Cornwell Maybe try reading them, if you jump right as they're firing you should have time to punish. Also go into training mode and get used to parrying projectiles, I feel like it catches people off-guard even if it doesn't actually give you more reaction time. You can bait the charge shot out to get it out of the equation as well, missiles are much easier
August Celine III Taking 1 stock from a top player isn't difficult, beating them is way harder. The samus player played really great but he did progressively worse throughout the set which isn't really adaption.
Nic Hume Yea this Samus could have used grab against Leo multiple times or dash attack to get out of pressure. He made himself very predictable when he relied on charge shot and didn’t even move around at all.
It’s hilarious to see everyone complain about how boring the match was. I was actually very interested and impressed with the way Leo adapted. It was an interesting match. Not every match has to be about sick hard reads or insane zero-deaths.
Leo, Mars, ryuga top 3 in order Marss is by far the most interesting to watch though. He plays ZSS and MegaMan as well, with ZSS probably being his real main. Ryuga is more interesting than Leo to watch but Leo is just easily the best actual player of the three. He just doesn't take risks like the other two do. He's a very safe player compared to them

It doesn't matter if what you see is boring; Leo is playing to win. I don't know the guy, but I can assume his priority isn't to impress the masses by playing a lowtier or some other character everyone wants to see. When there's a cash prize, why would you not play an objectively good character???
Wringle Spottomire the issue with that line of thinking when it comes to spectatorship and competition they both go hand in hand. Without enough spectators there are no sponsors or huge cash prizes so spectators pretty much have the players by the balls. If players have the “always pick the best character” mentality it kills variety and spectators interest and ultimately makes the game less enjoyable overall. Look how Smash 4 went out, not well. They need to improve on balancing to avoid this issue.
As for up air, well, THAT doesn’t kill until legit 170%, and that’s with the person you’re hitting being at the very top. Yeah Samus/ dark samus need a buff
Bruh Ike gets free anything from nair. If Samus challenges Ike and misses she’ll most likely get hit with nair into a combo or death so she really has to rely on charge shot and basically all her anti air options when he jumps. That’s virtually all she can do in this matchup.
Especially in the last half of game 1 when MKLeo was rushing Advo down. In the first half Advo was playing correctly. I also wanted to see more up-bs but idk if up-b is good in ultimate.
ike is a pretty underwhelming character to watch but don't doubt for a second that mkLeo is the best player in the world, if ike is that free how come no other top players are dominating with him?
Samus is for skilled zoners who can stay calm and keep setting up their systems of bombs and projectiles consistently enough to mentally overwhelm the opposition with very specific spacing requirements. Ike’s for static players, his hit boxes shield him with his sword so you can close in on people while being agressive; his moves aren’t insanely fast so he’s super easy to get good with, he Has true combos that kill below 100 with up tilt and the hitbox is much bigger than most up tilts so it’s the easiest crap to land, his aether can kamakazi you, so one stock leads are dangerous against him. It’s a bad matchup because samus is bullied by sword hitboxes because she can’t contest in most aerial combat instances. That samus is big brain except for his up B’s. such good charge shot play and zair recovery’s. something went wrong with his mental game with Leo though, may have been stage fright.
I'm not an expert or anything but I feel Advo overcomitted a little bit too much on that charge shot if he only stopped charging the charge shot so much and switch up his gamestyle and played the way he did at the end of the video, more up at his face, he could've probably won the game. Ik it ain't that easy Ike's N-air is to be respected but it is what it is and it isn't like Samus does'nt not have hit boxes to contest that.

The boringness of Ike play aside, it also feels off because Advo had to work so hard to make savage plays and Leo literally only had to make sure he was pressuring. Felt like the more technical playstyle got destroyed by a couple of easy (mechanically easy) combos.
I don't know about Ultimate, but back in the olden days, Samus's *first* jab was ok, not good or bad but just ok, but you only jabbed once in most cases.
Yeah I've gained Ike for a long time, 70% of the time you're not beating range spammers like samus and such. Ike... he needs buffed, the sword sometimes clips the enemy but does nothing. Some of the moves need more speed. And some need more knock back. Also I'm pretty sure he has only been nerfed, never buffed?
“This character does damage” has an up smash that doesn’t kill until 130-150% depending on light, heavy or medium stiiiill landing those odd stage dairs is so sick

I found Advo's Samus to be way too predictable. He relies on the charge shot too much. The missiles are much better at stopping the rush that Leo adapted to close distance.
Charge shot is something all Samus players need to play around. That threat of getting hit with it forces other players to work around her. Without it she's easy to rush down and abuse.
honestly i don't like the play style of both these characters so i wasn't really rooting for anyone. Ike is boring BECAUSE all he does is Nair to up air constantly and its all he has and does. Samus is boring and annoying because almost all Samus/Dark Samus players will play the keep away game, just stay at ledge and charge up. So this was stupid on both sides.
Well that's what you call neutral game I GUESS. Also samus HAS combos while Ike Nairs like crazy and finishes with an up or back air which is beyond boring.
That wasn't even what was happening, and there's different ways to play Samus. I play her very aggressively which actually ends up me loosing the match sometimes, but in this match up it is all Samus can do. She gets up close and she just gets combo'd like crazy.

Master Hand I’m fine with the Samus character, and player, it’s the Ike that is bullshit. The character needs to be banned or nerfed.

Can someone please give me tips on how to approach Samus? My main options for getting in past the projectiles is jumping, dashing in and shielding, and rolling. But it seems no matter how much I think I'm mixing those options up they always have an answer. If I jump over, they fair me, if I shield they shoot and then grab me, if I roll in they have time to escape and at that point I try to read where they'll go but it's a lot of work. Any tips would be appreciated
Jordan Cornwell Maybe try reading them, if you jump right as they're firing you should have time to punish. Also go into training mode and get used to parrying projectiles, I feel like it catches people off-guard even if it doesn't actually give you more reaction time. You can bait the charge shot out to get it out of the equation as well, missiles are much easier

August Celine III Taking 1 stock from a top player isn't difficult, beating them is way harder. The samus player played really great but he did progressively worse throughout the set which isn't really adaption.
Nic Hume Yea this Samus could have used grab against Leo multiple times or dash attack to get out of pressure. He made himself very predictable when he relied on charge shot and didn’t even move around at all.

It’s hilarious to see everyone complain about how boring the match was. I was actually very interested and impressed with the way Leo adapted. It was an interesting match.

Marss is by far the most interesting to watch though. He plays ZSS and MegaMan as well, with ZSS probably being his real main. Ryuga is more interesting than Leo to watch but Leo is just easily the best actual player of the three. He just doesn't take risks like the other two do. He's a very safe player compared to them

Being completely honest, when a Samus/Dark Samus player starts making plays against a top player, it's really hard to contain the hype!
It doesn't matter if what you see is boring; Leo is playing to win. I don't know the guy, but I can assume his priority isn't to impress the masses by playing a lowtier or some other character everyone wants to see. When there's a cash prize, why would you not play an objectively good character???
Wringle Spottomire the issue with that line of thinking when it comes to spectatorship and competition they both go hand in hand. Without enough spectators there are no sponsors or huge cash prizes so spectators pretty much have the players by the balls. If players have the “always pick the best character” mentality it kills variety and spectators interest and ultimately makes the game less enjoyable overall. Look how Smash 4 went out, not well. They need to improve on balancing to avoid this issue.
As for up air, well, THAT doesn’t kill until legit 170%, and that’s with the person you’re hitting being at the very top. Yeah Samus/ dark samus need a buff

Bruh Ike gets free anything from nair. If Samus challenges Ike and misses she’ll most likely get hit with nair into a combo or death so she really has to rely on charge shot and basically all her anti air options when he jumps. That’s virtually all she can do in this matchup.

Especially in the last half of game 1 when MKLeo was rushing Advo down. In the first half Advo was playing correctly. I also wanted to see more up-bs but idk if up-b is good in ultimate.

As a Dark Samus main, I’m sad seeing how many of his tools he doesn’t use. Charge shot is amazing but he uses it like a crutch tool.

Samus is for skilled zoners who can stay calm and keep setting up their systems of bombs and projectiles consistently enough to mentally overwhelm the opposition with very specific spacing requirements. Ike’s for static players, his hit boxes shield him with his sword so you can close in on people while being agressive; his moves aren’t insanely fast so he’s super easy to get good with, he Has true combos that kill below 100 with up tilt and the hitbox is much bigger than most up tilts so it’s the easiest crap to land, his aether can kamakazi you, so one stock leads are dangerous against him. It’s a bad matchup because samus is bullied by sword hitboxes because she can’t contest in most aerial combat instances. That samus is big brain except for his up B’s. such good charge shot play and zair recovery’s. something went wrong with his mental game with Leo though, may have been stage fright.
I'm not an expert or anything but I feel Advo overcomitted a little bit too much on that charge shot if he only stopped charging the charge shot so much and switch up his gamestyle and played the way he did at the end of the video, more up at his face, he could've probably won the game. Ik it ain't that easy Ike's N-air is to be respected but it is what it is and it isn't like Samus does'nt not have hit boxes to contest that.

The boringness of Ike play aside, it also feels off because Advo had to work so hard to make savage plays and Leo literally only had to make sure he was pressuring.
Felt like the more technical playstyle got destroyed by a couple of easy (mechanically easy) combos.

Yeah I've gained Ike for a long time, 70% of the time you're not beating range spammers like samus and such.
Ike... he needs buffed, the sword sometimes clips the enemy but does nothing. Some of the moves need more speed. And some need more knock back. Also I'm pretty sure he has only been nerfed, never buffed?

I found Advo's Samus to be way too predictable. He relies on the charge shot too much. The missiles are much better at stopping the rush that Leo adapted to close distance.
Charge shot is something all Samus players need to play around. That threat of getting hit with it forces other players to work around her. Without it she's easy to rush down and abuse.

honestly i don't like the play style of both these characters so i wasn't really rooting for anyone. Ike is boring BECAUSE all he does is Nair to up air constantly and its all he has and does. Samus is boring and annoying because almost all Samus/Dark Samus players will play the keep away game, just stay at ledge and charge up. So this was stupid on both sides.
Well that's what you call neutral game I GUESS. Also samus HAS combos while Ike Nairs like crazy and finishes with an up or back air which is beyond boring.
That wasn't even what was happening, and there's different ways to play Samus. I play her very aggressively which actually ends up me loosing the match sometimes, but in this match up it is all Samus can do. She gets up close and she just gets combo'd like crazy.
Dark Sami’s player should try down smashing every now and then
