    The Real Semi Truck With All New Uncovering Updates in 2023 is Here!
    Tesla on Thursday delivered its first electric semitrailer truck to PepsiCo in the delivery event which was held at a factory near Reno, Nevada.
    The all-electric Tesla vehicle finally launched into the market after a five-year delay. Besides PepsiCo, the ‘Semi’ truck grabbed the interest of global giants like Walmart, UPS, and Anheuser-Busch - and the five-year lag in production had left them patiently waiting for their own batch to land on their doorstep.
    The cost of this Semi is probably what interests you the most. So, how does its price fluctuate?
    Initially, when Tesla planned to offer the Semi with a quad-motor powertrain, it expected $150,000 for 300-mile version and $180,000 for 500-mile version to be the base price. On October 19, 2022, during the company’s Q3 2022 earnings conference call, Musk said that the Semi will be much costlier than a passenger vehicle.
    "I don’t want to say the exact prices, but they’re much more than a passenger vehicle. So, with a few thousand heavy trucks of this nature would be worth several Model Ys."
    However, Semi's price is incredibly affordable when compared to other automakers in the same market. Volvo with a Volvo VNR Electric, so far, Volvo has certified 18 dealers to handle electric trucks, another 55 are in process at a cost of $150,000 to $300,000 a dealership. Or the Peterbilt 579EV is also sold at the same price, $150,000.
    What benefits does Semi offer over ICE cargo vehicles since it just uses electricity to power itself?
    Tesla says that diesel trucks are 20% more expensive in terms of operational costs. The Tesla Semi costs USD 1.26 per mile, while an average diesel truck costs USD 1.51 per mile. Tesla says the figures were calculated using a 100-mile route, 60 mph average speed, 80,000 pounds payload, USD 2.50 gallon diesel, and 7 cents per kWh electricity price. The point the company is trying to make is that the electric truck’s high initial price can be recovered by low operational costs and minimal maintenance costs.
    Let's move to the section that I believe will be the most fascinating for people who want to possess this special Semi!
    Does Tesla Semi use the 4680 battery that Tesla earlier claimed it would?
    It’s been expected that the Semi would use the more advanced 4680 battery, but Musk shot that down, “Okay. The Semi doesn’t use 4680s,” he said when asked about deploying the batteries across the fleet. Instead, he said they are being used in Model Y as they continue to grow the production of the pack.

    The Peterbuilt looks great for owner operators. The problem is that MOST drivers are company drivers and rarely get even a tiny bit of the luxuries offered. Most 579 features are optional, and will never be seen in company trucks.

      Unfortunately a lot of company drivers treat the truck like a dumpster. Way back in the day I was assigned an international cabover, the previous drivers (had a team in it) had cut a hole, with a chisel, in the aluminum partition in the sleeper, to run a cable for a tv. In the real world, insurance companies charge much higher rates for trucks with high horsepower. The trucks have speed limiters and power limiters that cut the performance tremendously. The insurance companies have become abusive about it. Only owner operators have the optional features shown for these trucks. Want to know what a corporate driver gets? Delete anything optional, and you can see what most drivers have to work with. Most drivers on the road are company drivers. To be honest, if the beds in long haul trucks weren't standard, the drivers would be sleeping on boxes in the back.

    So the only true comparison of a Tesla vehicle is to another Tesla vehicle, as any other comparison is totally moot, because Tesla is just getting started, and the other guys have been around for over a century, and they’re living in the Jurassic age, and the new Tesla semi truck is the beginning of a new age, and so just the mention of Tesla is disrupting this industry, and in fact its already disrupted this industry, and so there’s no comparison of dinosaurs to a modern day Starship, as it would be like comparing the horse drawn carriage to a Tesla model S plaid.
    So as Elon said, that in a couple years buying an ICE vehicle will be like buying a horse, and so I like horses, but I'm not trying to own one. Cheers🥂

    The 579 wins if your business is carrying cargo. Tesla can carry about 6 tons of cargo (half the capacity of a diesel semi), see the Tesla propaganda video. A typical diesel semi weight 17 tons empty with 13 tons cargo capacity. It will take 2 Tesla semi to carry the same load for one diesel semi. Do you want to buy extra trucks and pay extra drivers? Other electric semi has shorter range (smaller battery) because they want cargo carrying capacity. Carry potato chips is easier than carry water base soda. Another stupid idea from Musk.

    I'll take the Peterbilt any day over the Tesla for OTR work. Sure the Tesla is good for local loads, but not for OTR work. You also make it sound like the Peterbilt is not capable of hauling over 80,000 pounds of cargo. It's not the truck that limits the weight that can be moved, it's the FMCSA regulations. Keep in mind, the extra weight of the Tesla will damage the roads more than the Peterbilt even when empty due to the weight of the truck. The Tesla will do 500 miles and need to charge (if you can find a charging station) for 30 minutes for just 70% full charge so the 2nd charge would need to be done at around 350 miles. The Peterbilt will do about 1600 miles on 1 tank (200 gal) at 8 MPG and then need to spend about 15 minutes re-fueling to have a full range available again. So, 1600 miles in the Tesla would require 3 to 4 re-charges (about 3.5 to 4 hrs.) and 2.5 to 3 days to complete. The Peterbilt could complete the run in 2 days under current regulations on 1 tank of fuel.

    • @BigBen621
      @BigBen621 Год назад

      Pretty sure the Peterbilt is *not* capable of hauling over 80,000 pounds of cargo. First, diesel semis are limited to 80,000 pounds GVW And to haul even that, the truck and trailer would have to have zero weight, which I'm pretty sure isn't the case.

    • @bbstacker4926
      @bbstacker4926 Год назад +1

      @@BigBen621 ya, I was talking about GVW. My point is, the only reason the Tesla is rated for 82,000lbs is due to the weight the batteries add to the rig. If both rigs had the same cargo, the Tesla will probably come in at or around 2000lbs heavier because of the batteries. So, while the tesla can be at a GVW of 82,000lbs, that doesn't mean it will carry more product.

    • @BigBen621
      @BigBen621 Год назад

      @@bbstacker4926 I think we're on the same page. To be clear, it's not just Tesla that's allowed an extra 2,000 lbs. GVW--it's all natural gas or electric powered trucks. I'm guessing the Tesla tractor will be more than 2,000 lbs. heavier than diesel tractors, as you say because of the batteries; and so it will likely have somewhat less load capacity-but not dramatically less, as some folks are claiming based on a blatantly false video by Thunderf00t. So potential buyers will have to decide whether it's worth taking a modest reduction in load capacity to gain a large reduction in operating costs. My guess is that many will, especially since reportedly many loads are limited by volume, and not weight. This is particularly relevant because the first Tesla Semis will be operated by Frito-Lay. Can you really fit 40,000 lbs. of Fritos in a semi trailer? 🙂
      Obviously, there will be many tasks for which the Tesla Semi isn't appropriate--including coast-to-coast trips with two drivers, so that each driver can drive the maximum 11 hours. What we'll be finding out over the next months and years is just how many tasks are appropriate for the Tesla Semi; but Tesla didn't become the largest selling automobile-not EV-in eight countries, by misreading the demand for their vehicles!

      Look up the weight of the Model Y battery pack, the Semi has the equivalent of 10-11 of those. Look up the weight of the diesel power pack, it's transmission and fuel, (ignore the coolant system as the Telsa has those, ignore the weight of the breaking systems as the Tesla has them as well as the air pumps), You'll find that unless the Tesla Semi is using a titanium and carbon composite in it's chassis, it's going to weigh more than the comparable day cab diesel truck.

    • @BigBen621
      @BigBen621 Год назад

      @@pogo1140 I don't think anyone's saying the Tesla won't weigh more than a comparable day cab diesel truck; of course it will. Yes, the batteries are much heavier. But the motors are of course much lighter than the diesel engine, and no transmission or fuel. While the Tesla has a heating/cooling system, it'll be much lighter than the diesel because of far less heat to reject than the diesel engine. Plus the Tesla gains 2,000 lbs. in GVW (82,000 vs 80,000). So the question is going to be "how much heavier is the Tesla Semi, and how much payload will it lose?".
      Tesla has said the payload is comparable; but even if it's somewhat less, there may be many operators who'll take a modest loss of load for a major reduction in operating expense. In addition, reportedly a large proportion of loads are limited by volume, and not weight; for example, the first Tesla Semis are going to Frito-Lay, and I doubt you can put enough Fritos in a trailer to overload it. For those who just must have maximum load and aren't concerned about operating cost, the Tesla Semi may just not be the truck for them.

    • @pogo1140
      @pogo1140 Год назад

      @@BigBen621 It's still a net loss because the total weight of the diesel motor and it's associated equipment is less than the battery resulting in a heavier truck even if the weight of the electric motors, it's reduction gears (3 sets which combined weigh as much as the diesel's transmission) weighed just 10 lbs.

    Now we have BEV Semi's why aren't the tops of trailers fitted with solar cells. In this way the batteries can be topped up with charge. On a 40ft trailer you should be able to get 20-30 300W solar cells. This would give a @6kW -9kW of charging. If a trailer carried a 30kWh pack then 3hrs of driving the truck driver could charge from the 30kWh battery pack.

    If driving between charging stations, BEV is a good option. Otherwise if you don't have charging, diesel is still an option. When will Tesla conquer Africa, India or other countries that still not have charging capabilities.I will wait 4 years and see who is coming out on top. Tesla or some other?

    The tesla semi will not have a larger payload than the Pete. Both can't weigh more than 80000 pounds per federal law.

      No one is claiming that the Tesla will have a greater payload that the Pete; but it *will* have a 2,000 lb. greater GVWR than the Pete. See 23 USC 127(s): "A vehicle, if operated by an engine fueled primarily by natural gas or powered primarily by means of electric battery power, may exceed the weight limit on the power unit by up to 2,000 pounds (up to a maximum gross vehicle weight of 82,000 pounds) under this section." I'm surprised how few people commenting on an electric semi video aren't aware of this.

    In order to save $200000 in fuel the truck would have to go 80000 miles in one year

      Thats only 270 Miles a day for 300 days a year. So easily managed on a single shift.

      I never subtracted the cost of electricity for charging. So you're gonna need a lot more miles than that to make up for it. Don't forget you'll be carrying less weight and making less money for the same trip. So we need to take that off for there too. Most likely you're gonna have to pay for charging stations at your company so let's go ahead and take that out too. Now you only need a million miles a year.
