    New video up now… ruclips.net/video/_FfoWGNpPP4/видео.htmlsi=NbCGx5mgAMQIWR2u (LMK if the audio issues are better this time around, I took said advice) I apologize for all my research + points having been masked by the obnoxious music in this one... My prior videos aren’t this frustrating I’d like to hope. 🦇🖤

    A really sad example is Death of a Cheerleader. It’s based on a true story of the unaliving of Kirsten Costas. She was portrayed as a monster, while the killer was portrayed in a sympathetic light.

    I like what you're addressing here, in some cases this can well be the case, but not always so, but I'm that you're drawing attention to it. With regards to Jenna Ortega, it was her who wanted to do the film and wasn't obligated to do it, and she pushed for more explicit scenes with Martin Freeman, there are many interviews where she addresses this, she felt that her character was empowered, in 'Charade' which you mention, it was Cary Grant was uncomfortable with playing a love interest for Audrey Hepburn due to the age difference between them, something that you touched upon, it was only after reassurance from Audrey that he agreed to accept the part. Up to the late 1950s it was fairly common for the men in relationships to be many years older than the women, this was because the men in their 30s or 40s were financially secure and many younger women desired that security, obviously this wasn't true for all women, but there was a large number who were, my own Father was thirteen years older than my Mother for example, and they were far from unusual. Some times women are the provocateur in age gap relationships, and not the victims, it more often than not depends on the power dynamic within the relationship. Hollywood has done, and still does sometimes show the victim in a bad light, be it male or female, more often female I agree, and the male characters as weak and unable to resist, or being entrapped by the female character, which of course doesn't reflect society as a whole, but there are a growing number of women who find having the power and control in a relationship empowering particularly in the modern age, which can be overlooked in society as we don't like to think of women being in the predatory position.
    I hope that you delve more into these subjects, as they deserve closer inspection. I recommend that you look at Film Noir in the future as I'm sure that you'll find plenty examples there to look into.

    In "The Crush", Adrian absolutely was the villain.

    • @angelus4282
      @angelus4282 3 дня назад

      Right? I can see how she might be seen as a victim at first (underage girl being taken advantage of by older, married man), but then Nick wizens up and tries to put an end to it. Adrian is the one who won't take "NO!" for an answer, and she's the one who gets obsessive and violent. Hard to paint her as anything but the villain of the story.

    • @candynickel
      @candynickel 21 час назад

      @angelus4282 she was written as a "nymphet" - the concept of a girl who moves as a predatory woman. As if men are helpless to their advances and couldn't prevent how things went. That's my main issue. The concept that a person in the age of minority can make logical or rational decisions that include seducing older men. It is always on an adult to stay away from those situations - this is why SOs have to register their addresses. Because they have proven they can't keep those boundaries as Nick failed to do here.

    I think this is such a good topic to analyze in a video and your analysis is valuable. The audio levels (music versus voice) were occasionally a little hard for me to hear clearly at times, but overall good video! I was disappointed with the reception to Poor Things related to this. I had not seen that Jenna Ortega flick!

    This is a really good analysis! Really enjoyed the video, and the background music. Amazing job, dude!
    I feel we (as a society, in general) carry a load of baggage on our persepcion of womanhood. I feel like men are obsessed with younger girls and want everyone to percieve them as adults as a way excuse their attraction to them (as in all the movies where the victim is blamed). That wouldn't be as scary if it wasn't because I see it extrapolate to real life. I feel that the movies are result of a symptom that society doesn't wanna see.
    And we watch the movie and we think "This male director is insane!" (well, rational people would think that, there are exceptions sadly); instead of thinking "This is a result of we (as a community, as a society) turning the blind eye to the hundreds of men who prey on girls".
    Why there is so much dress code for girls in schools? If you see their body as the one of a child, it shouldn't be a problem. Why so many girls are shouted on the street by older men, or hitted on by older men? This is a question I ask a lot of my male friends when discussing this topic: How old where you the first time someone asked you for sex? Most of the guys I asked answered around 18/20s by same age partners. I was 12. He was an adult. And I know very well this is a common ocurrence.
    At the same time, they are so scared of adult women they make them invisible in media. So you end up with huge age gap between actors (think of the old James Bond movies, where the actor playing Bond was in his 50s and he would be paired with a love interest in their 20s).
    I'm 30 and I'm convised no one know I exist. With this I mean, people think I must be 20, because people in their 30s must look older! And I come back to thinking how we represent women in media, and I see this huge gap of ages where women are either represented as promiscuous teenagers or old women above their 50s. And I know this is a huge exaggeration, but I feel it so much, and it's sometimes hard to put it in words.
    Anyway long comment, I just wanted to add to your video. Keep producing great content!

      @@lorenkilldeer8218 Thanks so much for your comment these experiences are exactly what I wanted to convey through my video! I have had many ideas such as the ageism in not only the music industry but in filmography as well and it’s shown time and time again since the beginning of cinema as we know it. I appreciate all the feedback and hope to make more elaborations spanning over different topics I think are necessary to talk about and hopefully spread some awareness. 🤍

    im subscribed to the writer jude doyles newsletter and he made a weekly analysis of the specific 80s-90s genre "erot*c thriller", and i feel like in the 90s there was particularly an interest in stories victim blaming teenage girls for being targeted by older men, especially reaching its high point with lolita 1997 and wild things 1998. its an interesting topic to explore, especially kn how modern works may differ from those of the past (which, i think we can all agree, are more than a little problematic).
    got to say though, to find poor things success "disturbing" feels strange to me. its a very well made movie, and it doesnt share the victim-blaming nature of stuff like the other movies you mentioned. the movies that had teenage girls as seductresses and men as innocent victims are worlds apart. from the tone being quite different (more akin to a picaresque coming-of-age comedy), to the fact that ruffalos character is shown as foolish and ridiculous and definitely manipulative, and the whole point of the movie being bellas maturation and growth, i dont think its comparable. regardless, pretty interesting analysis overall, and i like that you attempted to establish a bit of context first of all.

      @@casir.7407 Thanks for the elaboration! i do think it doesn’t compare to other movies that are much worse depictions. But I initially did find it disturbing due to the fact she’s a baby in a woman’s body but upon elaborations I do see how it is not in any way a direct parallel but a journey of finding oneself on their own time, own way and breaking set constructs but painted in a more artistic nature. I would like to better describe it in another video to hopefully discuss it better!

    I don't even need 1 second of this video to answer the question in the title.
    Victim complexes are bad. They create an abundance of traumatised weak minded individuals who the repair path to their victimhood is an extreme.
    The rightful protagonist is someone who experiences these same traumas and overcomes them while not causing a detrimental scenario for themselves and those around them.
