How do I create bounding boxes in blender?

Could script write a lock-file to disk for controlling script stopping? If file gets deleted manually by the user, script would stop nicely instead of terminating from Task manager. On pre-mature stop script could also serialize it's state to a disk, and in script start there could be an option to continue from last completed iteration.
