First episode I ever saw. I'd already heard years worth of folk tales and controversies around the show. After this intro, I just stared at my TV thinking "Oh my god, it's all true."
After many years trying to find the live action clip at the end of the man leaping over with an explosion behind him, I finally learned that it was taken from the 1997 movie "Darkdrive". (The scene happens toward the end of the film). Many have said it was from "Bad Boys", but I never recalled seeing that part at all in that film. The South Park wikia (which originally said the clip was from "Bad Boys") has been fixed to say it's actually from "Darkdrive".
I remember how annoying it was when I was trying to find it too. It didn't take me years, but was still annoying. Then when I finally found it, I was relieved at first, but then I just felt like I had no purpose in life anymore.
Small detail: All the ‘main’ characters (Cartman, Stan etc.) underneath have different types of costumes and variants of themselves from previous episodes but for Timmy it’s just the same wheelchair photo.
What's funny about this intro, is that when it shows Timmy, the text on top of him says "TIMMY!", which explains that, as Timmy shouts his name mostly every time he appears in the show.
Mine too. I remember being in middle school and hearing myths and legends about this show and how it was the sickest, nastiest, funniest show ever made. Then my cable finally got Comedy Central. This intro was the first I ever saw. As soon as I saw the Kyle fetus I knew all the legends were true.
0:00 Director: Bring up the old intro. 0:02 Stop! Stop! Stop the intro! (Music stops) Nope! Not this time! It's time for a little change, Don't ya think? 0:03 Cue the new and improved intro!
The first time I watched South Park, it was the episode Cartmanland, but I started halfway through the episode, so after seeing the absolute fast-paced madness of this show, seeing this intro on the next episode truly encapsulates what watching this show is like.
i think they just wanted to make it look futuristic, and with the technology at the time that was the best they could do in a reasonable amount of time within the technological constraints they had.
The intro is so underrated, its the best thing i ever seen, its like "YO CHECK THIS, NOW MORE THINGS, 2000 ITS GONNA BE F**CKING AWESOME" It really feels early 2000's
the whole thing is great but it really comes together when cartman says westside followed by kennys line with the record scratches and quick cuts of him dying and the "you love it", it's so perfect
The original intro will always be my favorite, but this was such an event at the time that it comes a close second. After this one, none of the later intro variations really stuck with me.
This intro screams early 2000’s

The intro was used during 2000-2001 so I see what you mean

TBT to the good ol' days where Timmy was featured just as often as Butters is now
And the first and second season when Pip was the original Butters.
Once Butters and Timmy became featured more and more, Pip was used less and less until they decided to kill him off.
The guy jumping from an explosion at the very end was sooo unnecessary i fucking love it 🤣🤣
This the definition of nostalgia right here
