Hey. Would like to get your opinion. I am new to Armstrong; I have the A+ 85 cm mast, HS 1850 and MA 1475 front wings. I think they are awesome. Been winging about 2 full years. Make pretty much all my gybes and working on toeside tack. I weigh about 190 pounds (85 Kg). My current board is Cabrinha code 5'4 98 L. It is over 27" wide. I am debating whether I should upgrade the the mast to the Performance? or upgrade the board to the new FG 90L which is much narrower than my current board. I have a Starboard ACE by the way I use for very light wind and have been paddling it. Next venture is the down winder. Would you recommend going with a upgrading of the board or mast? Financially I cannot do both now. Thanks SS
Aloha and thanks for watching and valuing my opinion. I believe that you will get more out of swiching the board. Masts are cool but the difference they makes for hobby riders like us, I think it can be neglected. While if you change the board, particularly going to a smaller board, you are progressing and smaller boards just feel much better and more fun to ride. Less singweight and tighter turns and over all just... less board underneath you makes for a lighter experience.
I'm with you. I found the change from an 85cm A+ mast to a 93.5cm Performance mast to be really nice but not game-changing. Glad I did it and do think it's a little faster on foil... and just "solid" feeling.
