      @@FreeWhisky Very much so! Been playing CM games since I picked up a single lonely copy of Beyond Overlord at my local gamestop when I was 13.
      I wish you got more bang for your buck with the newer titles. The amount of Nations, dates and regions we got in Barbarossa to Berlin would be like 4 separate games or modules these days.

    The level of research and production values of these videos are astounding. I assume our man works in the AV industry and military history and gaming are hobbies because these videos are essentially TV-quality documentaries. There is currently quite a lot of interest in gaming as training/learning tools, the historical after-action comparison with the interactive model provided by the game is a really innovative take on integrating games into a explain/understand/learn loop. I don't know of anyone else doing this at all let alone to the extraordinary quality done here. These are brilliant.

    Wow, seriously great research work presented in an engaging way. Really enjoyed hearing how you worked through the available source material and how newly discovered information completely through the investigation on its head, something that is such a core part of historical research but which is often glossed over in similarly-styled youtube videos. I would absolutely be interested in seeing you create another one of these or even a series (if you find the time; I know this all can take a lot longer than expected). Also correct me if I’m wrong or if it’s one that’s not appropriate for a video but I’m 90% sure there was a drone video of a Russian tank column being ambushed early war on a long stretch of highway, and I swore I heard some talk that the first mission of a CMBS Ukrainian campaign was literally the same stretch of ground.

    Fantastic work! May I ask please what you use for these map sequences? Is that Tabletop simulator? Something else entirely? I am very interested in the tech. Thanks & cheers! ^^

      I had this question asked on discord also; I was not aware of Tabletop Simulator or what it does. I now feel that I should look into it as Blender, which is what I've used, is quite a complicated program for my simple demands 😁. Nah it's not that hard, hadn't ever used it until six weeks ago, yet it took me quite some tutorials to get these simple results... I'll be looking into Tabletop Simulator for sure now 😉

    • @DrydockDreamsGames
      @DrydockDreamsGames 2 года назад

      @@FreeWhisky Haha understandable then - it's because of the looks (you ended up looking for the same effect & feeling, and it gave us all Tabletop vibes). One of the reasons we are probably asking though is because people would want the recipe to that sort of effects, and we certainly thought you had mastered some sort of dark magic - I doubt it is possible to achieve the same results in Tabletop unfortunately, but if your search brings satisfying results, I am sure we're all ears!
      But Blender it is for the time being then ^^

      I used Blender, which is free. The program is a bit intimidating at first but know that I never touched until six weeks before I uploaded this video, so with a few RUclips tutorials you can come a long ways.

    Amazing work! Just brilliant. But does it not make you think about those historians who confidently tell us what happened on this day in 1622 just by digging a few trenches in a field?

      A new print run of Autumn Gale, or their new book The Army That Got Away? In any case, I got all three while I was there 😁. Jack emailed me that they're working on a new title about a Polish armoured brigade I believe, which would be out in perhaps a year or so!

    Hello FreeWhisky: A few years ago after readinng an article in De Gelderlander about some Dutch amateur archeologists work on de Duivelsberg, I made an accurate map and scenario of de Duivelsberg and area and named it Teufelsberg. The map is far more correct than the scenario included with the base CMBN. Since you live in Nederland, I wonder if you would care to have a look at it and compare it to the actual location?

    • @FreeWhisky
      @FreeWhisky  Год назад

      I remember looking at the included Duivelsberg scenario as a contender for this series. Eventually I decided against it as I need some landmarks in the real world for this format to work, and aside from the hill it was mainly forest. Still, wouldn't mind looking at your scenario.
