I really like your channel. Leveling question. You start with your kick at -10db and mix to that. I see a lot of producers , engineers mix with kick at about -6 / -5 commonly. Most times they are mixing in Pro Tools, Studio One, FL Studio, Logic or whatknot. Is there a reason why you choose -10? Is this only in Reason or is this a reference point no matter what daw you’re working in? Your mixes sound good and you still seem to be able to still get it to 0db without crazy amounts of limiters and clippers . Apologies for all the questions🤣✨
Great question! No problem at all. I just heard -10db as a starting point for kicks for so long, from peers, from teachers in sound engineering class, from RUclips, and my own experience.
-6db wouldn’t leave enough room for me. I would be reach 0 to soon with the added instruments.
As for Daw differences, I do the same thing across platforms can’t really say why others do things differently. Main idea is pick a point for your loudest sound that leaves some head room and mix around that sound.

Great job Chris! I like u n SeffNittys Reason tut. Im a beginner but feel you guys tutorials would be easier to follow if u used the stock instruments n effects only. I cant get my mixes to sound right, the bass always sound muffled and muddy. I tried a simple remake of I Feel Love in Reason, and MPC Beats and the MPC sounds a 1000s times better. Thx
