AMAZING. BEEN A FISHERMAN SINCE I WAS 3 YEARS OLD. NOW PUCHING 80. LEARNED A COUPLE OF NEW TRICKS FROM YOU WHICH PROVES AN OLD DOG CAN LEARN NEW TRICKS.
That was excellent. I wish we had someone like you where I live in pa. I took my ride to a local shop and they said they couldn't put and I on my rod. After this video I'm going to try it myself thanks for a great video
Watched about 6 such videos; this was the best. A polished performance, skilled hands and good technique. Great alternatives for the intermittent wrapper. And thanks for the terminologies - will make it easy to find a few selected items to facilitate the garage process. Don't mind my friends using my spinning rigs, except when they step all over my eyes.
That's easy enough,I have never tried this but here lately when ppl throw poles away I'll get them to practice putting eyes on,or I'll take the eyes off and keep them for spares, thanks for the video man
Wow just seeing this out of the box ruclips.net/user/postUgkxQr1yd4Zc6qJF-scTB6Zb9dQbVpviuRxB recommend I have yet to fish with this set up, but based on the first hands on appeal, I can tell this is going to change the way i pack and carry to a whole new level. If you fish like i do, you know the smaller and less stuff the better. I’ve added a photo of just some of my gear so you can see how serious i am about fishing.
Thanks for posting - especially for showing both the professional and amateur ways to do it. I bought an inexpensive dryer a while back thinking I would also be able to wrap with it (which I can't - it is only for drying). I will try the fly-tying bobbin / thumbtack approach next time. Also good to know that 5-minute epoxy can be used in a pinch. I didn't realize it would be flexible enough.
Super well done tutorial with helpful alternatives to the pro equipment! I really appreciate this. One thing I noticed was you removed thread wrap that was above the eye but didn't replace it on your repair. Is that extra thread wrap just for aesthetics or does it serve another purpose? Appreciate the time you put into this video to make it a quality tutorial.
great job from captain chris, but a tip guys dont sight align your guides looking down the rings face up, as an optical illusion can effect your ability to align them. always sight them down the spine so the guides are facing down as you would normaly see the rod when fishing, trust me you will be so much more accurate at aligning your guides...
Great job Chris. I recently made a purchase of a couple of quality rods and reels for surf fishing. One of the rods needs to have 3 guides replaced, but I can't find anyone out here in the upstate NY boonies that does it. Your superb video has me convinced that I can actually do it myself. I have a homemade winding jig given to me in 1972 by an old friend. I never used it, but found it and dusted it off in preparation. I just have a quick question if I may? I was told by the fellow that I bought the rods from that I had to use a special guide made by some Japanese company I never heard of. I see nothing particularly special about them, but then again, I know Jack Squat about saltwater fishing tackle. Can't I go to Bass Pro or Cabella's and find something that will work as well for a Novice? Thanks for your advice. I am now an avid follower. Happy fishing!
Hey my friend I got a rod in it has a split grip will it broke on right in between the split grip on the blank I have a old rod I’m going to use to put the 2 broken ends back together but I want to cover the brake with thread in epoxy it so I can’t see the broken line is there any epoxy that I can’t get at a Lowe’s are Walmart that I can use that will give me a good finish that will not go yellow are look like crap after a good year of use it
NEVER GO AT A ROD WITH A RAZOR BLADE!!! A little heat will, soften up the old epoxy and allow you to unroll the old thread the same way it went on And don’t glue the new eye on before you wrap, a little tape will hold it until you get a few wraps on.
Great no BS got to have a lot of fancy tools to do something video,I break stuff a lot because I fish and use the rods rough a lot and this will save me .
if you don't have epoxy you can also use nail polish it works exactly the same my grandfather said he used my grandmas or moms nail polish back in the day to put an eye on and hold all the thread in place
This is what happen to my rod, I couldn't catch any fish cause of this, my tip ring, the center smooth thing came out, so is the only way replacing it is replace the whole thing? Help

Appreciate the tutorial man. One of the eyes on my rod broke recently and this video was very well made
Bro, if it weren't for your video, me and my son would have probably ruined a good rod, but now were gonna make it better! Thanks buddy!

The rods aren't theirs so they don't take care of them like you do, with friends like that who needs enemies.

I ain't gay by no means but I love you bro, this is going to help me out tremendously! Thanks for the video!
Appreciated. Plan A, plan B; love it.
GREAT tutorial..thx !
Fantastic.Thank you!
how much would you charge to fix a couple eyes on my bass rode ?
What kind of thread do you need? I’ve watched several videos and none say what kind of thread. Will regular cotton thread work?
hi sir chris good day! may i ask what kind of thread u used and that liquid you coat? thanks new subscriber here.
this video is just what i needed thx!
Does the epoxy matter ? Or will any type be good ?
Hi what cotton or nylon do you use please
NEVER GO AT A ROD WITH A RAZOR BLADE!!!
A little heat will, soften up the old epoxy and allow you to unroll the old thread the same way it went on
And don’t glue the new eye on before you wrap, a little tape will hold it until you get a few wraps on.
What would a repair like this typically cost if I took my fishing rod to get repaired? Okuma diezel 8'
Six dollars for the wrap and finish plus the cost of the eye. Small eyes are about three dollars large eyes can be as much as 14.
Yea I need the large eye for my rod its the guide closest to the reel! Wish you in Fay NC good vid.
I live in UK, took my rod to a tackle shop, he repaired an eye and fitted another, for £5.
Proper job ! Thanks bro.
What type of thread?
Thanks for the great video!
Nice run down- Thanks
Great vid, thanks.
good job buddy! thank you!!
Great no BS got to have a lot of fancy tools to do something video,I break stuff a lot because I fish and use the rods rough a lot and this will save me .

Yes it will
Thanks, I needed that.
Great video 👌🏻
Excelent! Thanks!...
Well taught
if you don't have epoxy you can also use nail polish it works exactly the same my grandfather said he used my grandmas or moms nail polish back in the day to put an eye on and hold all the thread in place
Gannon Carpenter its a little to late for a comment on your comment but do you mean black nail polish or that kind of transparent nail polish
@@ovuvuevuevueenyetuenwuevue7469 its a little too late for a comment on your comment but they mean the clear coat nail polish
This is what happen to my rod, I couldn't catch any fish cause of this, my tip ring, the center smooth thing came out, so is the only way replacing it is replace the whole thing? Help
Great video thank you.
Thank you 😊
The inside part of the eye on my carp rod has came of. I don't really want to replace the whole eye can i get that bit fixed?
Do you still rap fishing rods?
Went looking to fix and eye on my rod. Found this video and noticed you stole my name.. sort of. Chris M. Edlin is mine ;)
lmao
I need a antic fishing rod repaired, who can i pay to put new eyes on it big to small all the way up its about
+Keevin Armstead What's it worth to you? Probably cheaper to just buy a new pole.
*antique
Carful with your hand stabbed myself that way! Great vid helped a lot.
I wouldn't have thought of the hot glue...
Camera too far away. Couldn't really see what was going on.
do not use a lighter to remove the eye, you rod will break in mid cast trust me lol
I did that to a casting rod with a hot glue gun
lol so to repair my rods I need some machinery.
Double thread overkill and unnecessary!
Also doesn't hurt anything to do it.
That was the 1st time I have seen that also but it does look nicer (double wrap) plus piece of mind.
Nice and blurry.
making a big deal of changing a fucking eye, whoopdy do
