- Rishi Sunak is facing calls to publicly address the fallout from remarks made by MP Lee Anderson after an Islamophobia row deepened on Sunday.
The former deputy chairman lost the Conservative whip after failing to apologise for claiming "Islamists" had "got control" of Sadiq Khan.
But critics, including the London mayor and Tory peer Baroness Warsi, have hit out at the Prime Minister for failing to explicitly condemn the comments.
Oliver Dowden earlier declined to say whether Mr Anderson's words were racist and left the door open for a possible return to the party, prompting accusations that the remarks were not being taken seriously enough.
TalkTV correspondent Nick Ellerby reports live from Anderson's constituency, Sutton-In-Ashfield, where he receives mixed reactions from the general public.

It's a fact that Islam itself is not a race, but whether or not Anderson even takes that into account is doubtful, whatever he says about anything is diluted by his past record of strange outbursts, not least the " thirty pence meals" and that "nurses who can't afford to live " are not managing their finances properly". I have full support and respect for Lee Anderson. And Suella Braverman. Bringing these serious matters up, speaking the truth! Speaking about Islamic extremists is NOT "racist"! They (the Govt) are also terrified that if this happens, it won't make the UK look too good, and their promotion of a happy UK multi-cultural society will be seen as a complete failure in the eyes of the world. They (the police and authorities, and even the Govt) will do anything to prevent this happening. Unfortunately, it will happen, and it can't come soon enough. Things might then change for the better, but I doubt it.

I know the area reasonably well living in Nottingham. Its a very white area, and not many Muslims and a person can say these things because he is not relying on Muslim votes. I don't know enough about London politics to comment on this, but I wish Sadiq Khan would talk more about Hamas' hostages rather than the death toll figures which are unavoidable in these conflicts.

If we look back at brexit, people weren't interested in Brussels, they voted for brexit simply because we were told that we would regain control of our borders.
