- Talk’s Kevin O’Sullivan and royal commentator Kinsey Schofield discuss the real reason why Prince Harry turned down a meeting with King Charles during his UK trip.
Earlier in May, the Duke of Sussex travelled to the UK for the first time since February to celebrate the 10th anniversary of his Invictus Games.
There was speculation that he may have seen his father, but a spokesperson for Harry said the monarch was “too busy” for a meeting to go ahead - in what was dubbed ‘the snub of the century’.
It has been revealed that Charles did agree to put Harry up at a royal residence, but his son said no because he had security concerns.
It is thought St James' Palace was where he could have stayed, but it has been claimed the Duke was concerned it would leave him staying in a “visible location with public entrance and exit points and no police protection”.
Harry stayed in a hotel during his trip. Kinsey says the earlier announcement “villainized” King Charles, adding that Harry’s pursuit for police protection makes him “entitled, arrogant and ruthless”.

- Harry knew way in advance that the Invictus gathering in London was happening. He said back during early winter during that Good Morning American interview that he had planned trips to England. He also knew about Charles’ ill health months ago, so he had all the time in the world to have announced well in advance that he was coming and wanted to see his father. Like Kinsey said, they could have probably arranged armed security for him.
Therefore, this was a deliberate and wicked move by the Harkles, the statement they issued was pre-prepared for Harry issued immediately upon arriving.

You know, these two pulled the same stunt right before King Charles’ coronation, where Meghan tried to vilify King Charles worldwide by publishing that she had written a personal letter to the king about the alleged “unjust and racist” treatment she received but that the King never answered her back. It is the exact same strategy.
Therefore they put Charles in a really bad position worldwide, coldly and deliberately. This was a planned, nasty move.
I for one would keep Harry as far away from the royal family as possible.

Slightly different situation. Edward VIII abdicated & was known thereafter as Duke of Windsor. So he still had a title. He was disowned by his family not only for his machinations against his own family but for his consorting with the enemy whilst this country was at war. Harry’s behaviour is appalling, ridiculous etc but you cannot remove title & rank due to unpopularity alone.
They should have taken it further with the Duke of Windsor

I believe that Harry asked to use a royal property expecting his father to say no. He could then use that against his father. When the King said yes he had to make some excuse not to stay there as it would be seen to be a great gesture from the King. To then claim that his father hadn't got time to meet him is just nasty as it could have happened if he'd accepted the offer. Harry just sinks lower and lower in his quest for victimhood.
