1st time I heard this cd as a teen I had to have it. Didn't take it out of the cd player for months. I'll be here for every Sublime reaction, any song.
Date rape, Wrong Way, April 29th 1992, Pawnshop, EVERY SINGLE SONG IS FIRE and all different some rap, some reggae, some rock it's just all mixed together.
Sublime is a fusion of reggae, ska, punk, hip hop, and rock. Used to see them play backyard, keg parties in Long Beach back in the late 80's when they played for beer along with No Doubt.
Here is a gem to react to. The song is called Get Out: ruclips.net/video/nt_ktnmmLiw/видео.html. It was originally the second track on the album 40oz to Freedom. But when Sublime got picked up by a major label and the album got national distribution, they had to remove the song because they could not get a Led Zeppelin sample cleared. The sample came from the breakdown of Zeppelin's The Lemon Song.
That’s another one of my favorites!!! I love the line “they were jumping off walls and kicking ceilings.” I don’t know why but it always stuck out to me. Lol
Brad hated that song. Because he had originally written completely different lyrics for it and lost them and could never get it right again. He just said the original was way better. He said it was about Bud getting out of rehab and becoming a jesus freak for a little while.
The last lyric is from a 60's 1st wave ska single called "A Message to you Rudy". Originally by Dandy Livingstone. However made famous via cover by two tone originators The Specials.
"Doin' Time" or "Garden Grove". The 40oz album was made by sneaking into their college studio at night and recording, so the production quality isnt great but the songs are classic. Their self titled album was the first major label release so the production is much much better. Either way cant go wrong with Sublime though
I think 40oz to Freedom is one of the most underrated albums of all time. Sublime is a fusion of Reggae, Punk, Ska, Folk, and Hip Hop among other genres.
For sure he borrowed freely be it a popular riddim or the lyrics. I'm not taking from his creativity in anyway but many people don't realize because some is pretty obscure. Like Caress Mi Down the bass line is the Sleng Teng riddim from Wayne Smith's 1985 song "Under Me Sleng Teng" and lyrics and melody are very similar to "Caress Me Down" by Clement Irie also 1985. If even one person is inspired to track down the originals (just enter in search above) than its all worth it,
Bro gotta do some more sublime i HIGHLY suggest, "dont push", and "5446 Thats My Number/ Ball And Chain" by sublime. This band bruh... every song a banger. Keep up great work man. Much love from texas🖤
40oz to Freedom entire album is the shit...
They’re a fun rabbit hole to go down
40oz to freedom is love! amazing record!

I wore out the cassette. I still throw this album on fairly regularly

Sublime is awesome. Glad you found them.
Oh Hello Sublime you have a new fan with this one! 😄🧡
You are a good human.
You’re appreciated family! 💯❤️
Yeah. Sublime definitely had a lot of reggae influence....

Great memories of being young in southern Cali. Sad that Bradley died just as they were taking off.
My favorite Sublime song! But they have a ton of good ones.
Same here 🙌
Eric Wilson is my favorite basset ever. Definitely in a league of his own.

Thanks for this A friend had an early release with this on it, and when I bought mine it was the newer release 🎉
Been wanting to hear this forever.❤
One of my favorite Sublime songs.

Why does someone always feel the urge to make this comment that everyone here is aware of? Thank you detective.
Love the "A Message to Rudy" by The Specials tribute at the end

I think this is honestly my favorite song and I love watching people enjoy it for the first time.
Southern Cal surfer kids, lovin reggae and hanging out with rappers next thing you know you get sublime

Thank you so much for reviewing this!
that entire album is dope
I just moved 40 oz. To Freedom ruclips.net/video/frZYnbChUdg/видео.html and Don't Push ruclips.net/video/C3UEI5H6IXU/видео.html to my phone.
This whole song is lifted lyrics from a huge range of artists. Conway Twitty to The Specials
I love how they gave respect to the Specials at the end
They were pretty much a ska band with lots of reggae and hip hop influences. Check out KRS-One and Saw Red

Yeah. i really like this album. I played it a lot in my teens and early 20s, but like half the album is cover songs.
❤️💛💚
The last bit he was singing are lyrics to a song called A message to you, Rudy by The Specials check them out
You should check out the song Saw Red. It’s Sublime with Gwen Stefani before she was famous. It’s sick. Short, but sick.
Bro gotta do some more sublime i HIGHLY suggest, "dont push", and "5446 Thats My Number/ Ball And Chain" by sublime. This band bruh... every song a banger. Keep up great work man. Much love from texas🖤
NEW SONG BY SUBLIME IS FYA DAQG
Don’t listen to the people saying 40oz. The acoustic album with the gold cd with writing is where it’s at!
You should react to A Message to You Rudy by The Specials, that’s where the “stop your messing around..” part at the end came from
