- Learn the 7 Steps to drying your Poodle professionally so that we can make that coat as fluffy as possible. Remember, "Curly" is a bad word in Poodle Land. We want to make sure that we straighten the coat gently and effectively so that your Poodle is ready for their proper styling.

I used these steps today when drying my Standard Poodle and liked the result. After flat head nozzle until almost dry, spray, brush and then hose only, then stand dryer. Thank you.
Yay, glad it helped! What the world needs is more fluffy spoos! 😁💕🐩
@@GinasGrooming Absolutely!
Super helpful, concise, straightforward, not too complicated for non-pros. Thank you!
Yay, thank u so much for your kind feedback! 😍
Thank you the steps help alot
Great to hear, glad they helped! I've used these steps in practice when teaching new Grooming students... so glad it carries over virtually! Thanks for watching! 🤩
really helpful video❣❣I had a few questions though- How long does this entire process take and how long does the coat stay fluffy?
Hi, love your question! 😍 So, Standard Poodle drying times can vary depending on the thickness and length of the particular coat you are working on AND the equipment you are using, but taking my Rosie as an example (our model in the video), I can fully dry and fluff her in about 20-30 min using a Flying Pig dryer (amzn.to/4075zRs with a stand attachment). That is after a full bath and towel dry. I have other Poodle clients with thicker and longer coats that can take up to an hour (or even longer if there is de-matting involved). Now, as far as the duration of the "fluff", that's a bit subjective, as a Show Poodle person may think a coat has de-fluffed within an hour (in consideration of what they expect for the ring), whereas a pet groomer may see things a different way. For me, as a groomer and as a pet Poodle mom, I see the luscious fluff (what I like to call the "cream puff") for about 3 days, and then I get about 3 weeks of a decent coat appearance before falling into the "homeless street Poodle look", lol! Hope that helps and thanks for your very sweet comment! 💕
@@GinasGrooming This is extremely helpful!! I couldn't find a direct answer on the internet, thank you for your detailed response :) My questions were pretty vague but you've answered them perfectly.
I really like this video. I dont have a hair dryer like yours, but I can try to do the steps you do. I can get my husband to hold the dryer. 😂 We just have one standard poodle. We have had 2 others in the past.
Haha, see, I always say husbands are good for some things! 😆 Well, that certainly works! I will say that pet dryers are becoming more affordable, so I would definitely keep an eye out since high-velocity will save you a ton of time on that coat. Thanks so much for watching, and Happy Grooming your Spoo!!! 🥰
Thank you! I dried my girl with a high velocity dryer until she was dry and her coat was so tangled. I realized I must be doing something wrong so I sought out your video. I will do it this way next time. I don't have a stand dryer but I have a flying pig high velocity dryer. For her head and ears I put it on low and held it under my arm while I tried to brush her top knot. Am I supposed to use heat or not? What pin brush are you using in this tutorial? Thank you!
Hi there! It sounds like you are on your way to a great fluff out! A little trick that I do with the Flying Pig when I'm doing a house call and don't have my stand dryer setup is that once I'm ready to dry and brush, I take the hose off completely, put the dryer on an adjacent table and modify the angle of the air by propping a towel under the dryer. If you have a tall table or cart with wheels, you can move the dryer all around, section by section, pretty much like having a stand dryer (I do this all the time). So, to answer your questions: 1) Heat or no heat? I do use heat, usually on setting I, but as long as you are vigilant, setting II speeds up the process and can really help straighten the coat. 2) Brush? I am using my favorite general purpose, inexpensive slicker brush: (a) amzn.to/3ByoGeL, but my favorite Poodle fluffing brush is the Chris Christensen (pricier): (b) amzn.to/49HnQck, and my new favorite Poodle pre-brushing slicker is this guy: (c) amzn.to/3ZxGqPi. For any pro Poodle fluff, I do use all three brushes regularly: Pre-brush with (c), General Purpose and Dematting with (a), and Extra Fluffing and Smoothing with (b). Hope that's not too confusing! But if I had to only choose one, it would be (a). And a metal comb is a must, must, must! Good luck, please keep me posted on your progress! 😊
@@GinasGrooming Thank you! You are so kind to help. I hope you get a kick back if I order from your links? Great tip with the dryer to turn it into a modified stand dryer. THANKS!!
@@mountainstream8351 So glad to help! And thank you for your support, every bit really helps and is greatly appreciated! Happy Holidays! 🙏💕
Does this process also apply to a mini poodle?
Hi, absolutely, the same process applies to all sizes of Poodles, except you have to reduce the power of your airflow for your little guys. Hope that helps, and Happy Grooming! 😍
@GinasGrooming thank you. It helps 😊
I would like you to show the dog at the end.
Thanks for the feedback, Maggie! This was one of our earlier videos and we were (and still are) learning. But I appreciate your comment, thanks!
What dryer are you using??
Hi, thanks for your question! I always use two dryers for fluff-drying: the stand-dryer I am using is the Flying Pig (Flying One): amzn.to/3Gs4Hgc and the hose is the K9-II: amzn.to/3OerIIt. Since this last holiday season, my K9-II died (it was old), so I have replaced it with another Flying Pig (hose only: amzn.to/3OerIIt) and am incredibly happy with the performance of the two together. Good luck and happy grooming! 🐾😊

HOW to make a poodle to stand like manaquin 😩😩😩
My toy poodle is mowing, looking at the place where I want to dry her, she’s howling, biting air…..
She hates drying and brushing 😩😩😩😩
Also she’s terrified of groomer huge and loud dryer, she tolerates only human dryers.
That’s a shame because I have FCI show dog, from good breeder, but she hates “poodle grooming” 🙈😩😂
Lol, your little Poodle is certainly making you "work for it"! 😅 I will say I got lucky with my Rosie girl - she does so enjoy the pampering. Good luck taming your beast, haha, and thanks for watching! 😀
