      I hear you. I've had mine about 20 years. Regular wood processing and camping. Black coating has taken a beating (who cares - I could strip it if I could be bothered) and the handles are a bit scratched up but the blade just keeps going with basic maintenance. Made to be batoned. Have a great day.

      Sounds like a Camillus Becker Campanion Y'all have if it was 20 years ago at "around $50;" I believe the lowest Camillus Becker went was $60, as was mine (but there could have been sale prices back then.) Different Steel then for that Model, 50-100-B, a Ball Bearing Steel, and a more usable 3/16" thickness instead of Kabar's later, thicker 1/4" 1095 Cro-Van.
      I handmade Green G-10 handles for mine with an integral 4-line Paracord D-Guard & tiger-striped the coating by selective sanding so it looks Unique & user friendly; but the most important point is that after 20+ Years, it's still kicking in wood/kindling processing. Yep. I Don't think we're alone in that. There's a Lot of those that were sold back then, and I Love to hear when they're still going Strong. Huge Bang for Little Buck$ 🔪

    BK2 is the closest to "one tool only" perfection as you can get. that being said, add: silky bigboy, stainless cookpot, spetsnaz shovel, and smaller companion blade for a very competant kit.

    • @realbroggo
      @realbroggo Год назад +2

      Agree. The BK2 is a heavy beast and not really suited for utility work - edge is just too thick. It's designed for hard work where you risk snapping the blade (eg. batoning wood). Laser Strike is built for utility work. Can't quite take the beating of the BK2 but is lighter and more nimble in hand. Great hiking & camping fixed blade. Have a great day.

      I've always wanted a BK2 in 3V. 3V isn't a super steel as such but it really would give the blade next level toughness and would improve edge retention along with some stain resistance (although not a stainless steel). Only downside would be more difficult to sharpen. Have a great day.

    • @Freakmaster480
      @Freakmaster480 Год назад

      @@edge-climber8540 Firstly, I think a steel upgrade would be fine, but I think super steels would not be great for the bk2. Something like 14c28n would make a fantastic upgrade to the 1095 crovan used now.
      Secondly, the bk2 has the cutting geometry of a brick. It is a crobar with an edge. The wider your cutting geometry the more you are going to limit the benefits of the high edge retention that defines super steels.
      Thirdly, the bk2 is mostly famed for being a functionally unbreakable knife that was at one time quite affordable. Super steels generally trade some toughness for their edge retention making the blade less durable and on top of that the price of the knife would become super high to partially to materisl costs but mostly due to machining and tooling costs.
      Fourthly, there are better platforms, even within the beker line of knives, for a steel upgrade. I would kill for a magnacut bk16.

    We all like a good beater knife. I used my Hultafors GK as a chisel to fit in a new door lock the other day. I bashed it with a hammer. Stropped it after & was super sharp again!

    Looks like a good shape for hunting / camping. The handle looks good to me. Price seems reasonable ($US dollars) Cheers Dave 🇳🇱 🇺🇸 🇳🇿

    I would choose my Esee 5 any day over my bk2. Hands down my Esee 5 will always take place of my bk2

    A quarter inch knife with a flat saber grind is not a cutting tool in my book. I had this many years ago for a few days, but it was just too thick for anything other than batoning.

      It's a crowbar with an edge. But that's the thing with this knife. You should buy it for that not for being anything else. It would never be my bushcraft knife but I do love it for what it is
