The Basics of Reading Music on Chromatic Harmonica

- This is certainly not an exhaustive treatise on how to read music but I wanted to show you how the basic range of this instrument relates to the musical staff. I thought I was done but then I decided to talk about sharps and flats also. I mention an upcoming lesson package on my site that will teach harmonica players how to read by going through an elementary flute method one page at a time. This video was posted 3 years ago and I have not yet released or produced this product. I do currently have 4 courses of study on the site now:

This is *exactly* what I've been looking for! I am a trumpet guy. I play mostly by ear although I can read music to some extent. I want to be able to "know" where notes are as I improvise instead of memorizing a song by "blow2, draw 3, blow 4 with slide", etc.
I'm 68. Herb Alpert was my main influence back then (late 60's). I recently picked up harmonica, rediscovering Stevie Wonder. Liking his sound, and seeing him playing a Suzuki (SCX 64?), that's what I got. I also have a bunch of Diatonics in different keys but I think I prefer the chromatic.
Just ordered the method book you discuss here. I'll be following you as systematically as I can.

Hi Tim. Thanks for the comment and your enthusiasm. I hope to finish a How-to-Read product this year but I can't make any promises. Mentioning Herb Albert has got me thinking of the song Taste of Honey which would be super cool to learn on the harmonica. @@ross-harmonica Appreciate whatever help I can get. As it is, I try to pick out a song...and all too often run out of breath when I get stuck on "that" note that requires the slide.
I've learned to practice smaller sections and not just start all over.
I want to be able to instinctively know where things are.

So the middle C is the lowest C on the 12 hole harp you have.
I read for woodwind and guitar/bas instruments. But not piano with the to stave as you do. So that low C to me isn't what I think of as middle C...but with what you wrote we just read up the harp from that low C?
So sax is low Bb to high F. And this starts at that low C.
This was invaluable and great advice...

A lot of things happened such as releasing an LP, getting married, and moving across town. @@ross-harmonica Nice to meet you online! This Melody Maker harp intrigues me. I play chromatic, too, but a diatonic that enables me to play more tunes attracts me. Can it be bent much? Can it be overblown?
