Mid mount winch under tub, keep it sneaky and weights in the middle

You could do a high mount winch behind the cab and half under the floor of the tub, run your rope through a pipe to the front, best of both worlds. Then you could do a build video on a sick high mount with air free spool, bigger drum and bigger motor, and mounting in the hilux 👌🏼

Pop in a set of xr6 twin thermo fans. Run a 70 degree thermostat and your rig will not get hot. The slow crawling you need thermos

70 deg thermostats are widely available. Quick google search will help you
I was only asking as when I search it doesn't come up with 70 degree ones only high-flow that's why I was wondering if there is a specific website that sells them as I'm 5l not 3l

I've owned too many 4x4s, but my old LN106 is the only one I keep looking for. So capable, so reliable, and so easy to fix when you go too hard. PS, stock up on tailshafts if rock crawling. They sit at a gronky angle, and banana when you hit rocks.

tips for preventing overheating in slow speed stuff, some are obvious some aren't.
- check for leaks / low coolant
- make sure system is bled properly
- check viscous fan hub/clutch, re oil if necessary. (search rolled up newspaper viscous clutch to see how to test)
- make sure fan shroud is in good nik
- check thermostat and make sure it is operating properly, can test by heating water alongside an accurate thermometer
- if you can be bothered & it's still not fixed, check water pump for cavitation / wear.
If all that fails, 50/50 mix of mountain dew and gatorade to test Toyota reliability.
Edit: Mountain Dew must be purchased with a Zinger Box by Uncle Pooly for maximum cooling

My pop has a 1997 Ln106 with only 80,000km on it and he’s had it since new and has had zero problems. 😮
1997 was the end of the ln106s and the solid front axle
Might be time to throw a 10 blade 1KZ fan with an extra bottle of viscous hub oil in the fan hub to get those cooling issues under control 🤓

I have a ln60 and ln61.. both were compound boosted.. but I have gone back to single turbo still runnng 21psi on the ln61 to try get a roadworthy for club reg

The 2.4 from memory did have issues with the head cracking, might be worth checking. It has the same symptoms my 1kzte had.

The coolent spraying everywhere is a good indicator 😅
The overheating issue is petrol vehicle owners... they need a minute or 2 idling cooling down before turning off . or they heatsoak when turned off.. 2h and 1hz are the same

Might have to big block swap the surf… The mighty 1KZ 😂 Mine never over heats, unless it’s a 35 degree day and I’m going up a big hill on the Hume doing 110km with the air con on, turn off the aircon for the hill and she goes back down and the air cons back on 😂
My SSRG Surf with the 1kz (& the recaros🥰) has made me love the engine, it’s taken me all round this country and never failed me…. But 1KD Surfs are pretty damn cool to 😂

I have an idea of what to do for the front bumper. I am building a tube bumper that is built behind the factory bumper and it pops out in front of the bumper in the middle to alow you to fit between the tube work and the front crosmember.
Do you think it wil be legal. to have the whinch infront of the bumper? Thats my concern!
