- Side by side comparison of the Tumi Alpha Bravo Nellis and Alpha Bravo Shepard. The Sheppard is basically a larger version of the Nellis and I just wanted to point out the main differences I noticed between the two. Hope this helps anyone debating between the two or is curious about either.
I picked up a Nellis a few years ago, mostly as a work EDC bag. It was fine for a laptop, notebook and water bottle. But that’s about it; when I traveled with it, it quickly ran out of space. Recently picked up a Search, which I believe is derived from the Shephard and similar in size. Just used it for a 4 day trip as my only bag and it did great.
5:35 "I have to put it downnnn...." Funny. I totally get this guy. I'm the same. Intolerant of small hassles. Our type of person holds designers to a high standard. No excuses. I'll give you all the money you want, but you better get the bag right in EVERY single way. Great video. Helped me make up my mind.
Thanks for the comparison vid. So basically Nellis and similar sized bags are best for daily commute like the subway. The bigger Sheppard and similar sized is better for very long distance commute that requires a plan or Amtrak.
I have the Sheppard Deluxe, it’s been my EDC for over a year and I still love it! I am actually thinking about getting another one just to have it in another color.
Great review! I’m more of a tech/reader & gamer. So, I’m looking for a bag for my iPad, laptop & Nintendo Switch & controllers. I really need a bag that has multiple compartments & has padding (I do have Nomadic sleeves for my IPad & accessories & hard case for my controller). I’ve had Tumi bags for over 25 yrs & they have been go-to. Love the quality & worth the price, even if you’re on a budget like me-
as I used to replace my Jansport/Kipling bags at least once a yr. (the companies have since merged). Kipling isn’t bad & they obviously cater towards a younger &/or quirky clientele, but the bags didn’t have much form & padding. And I’m rough on my bags. I don’t travel much (and who does these days? And if you’re travelling, stop it! If you have that option) but in the past, I take my bags everywhere.
I did switch to Tom Bihn for my last bag: they cater to artists & outdoor travelling/hiking. What I really liked was the model I have, has a carabiner for me to hang a thermos or umbrella. Like Tumi, Tom Bihn has tons of compartments. My only (small) gripes are that Tom Bihn doesn’t have an add-a -bag pass-through & my current one is occupied by my knitting & sewing supplies for on-the-go. And Tom Bihn & Etchr (my Etchr contains my drawing supplies, plus the buckles are annoying) are only available online & these days, shipping takes forever.
I’ve had the Alpha Bravo line (2 diff models & 1 sling pouch).
How do you think this compares to the Alpha Bravo?
The Alpha Bravos I own are ballistic & 1 is the thicker leather. They are beasts but are pretty heavy even w/o anything in them.
Great comparison Tumi vid! -------Tumi rocks. Thanks for posting! MTW , LA CA USA 2020
Nice video! What kind of watch are you wearing the video?
Everki Onyx is a great bag. Each pocket has it’s own dimension which prevents that from happening. They’re not cheap, approx. $280, however they’re built well and provide a nice, stylish look. Most people need at least 25 liters to prevent overstuffing. I believe that smaller Tumi you have is somewhere around 18 liters, and the Sheppard is close to 25.
Have an Everki Studio love the size, but same problem with items taking over front area. Thanks for review.
thanks for doing and sharing this video. Now I can decide which fits me :)
Thanks man, you answered a lot of questions I had.
Definetely helpful, thanks. I just wish I had seen this video before got the Nellis! I LOVE the Nellis, but I am having the same issues with it as you do... Time to get the Sheppard?
Exactly! I hate my Nellis for that space stealing. I only use it for Disney World trips now. Otherwise I can’t use it for EDC.
That’s actually really good, thanks
What watch are you wearing Mike? Is that a citizen GPS watch?
I thought about that too 😏 a little bit hard to concentrate at the backpacks with that watch appearing constantly 😅
Thanks for the review. Very helpful
Great review. Can you tell me one thing? Does the backpack gets damaged in rain? As it has leather pockets. Have you ever faced any such problem?
Definitely the Sheppard if I can find it in Blue Camo.
So from what I can tell, the Sheppard is called the Sheppard Deluxe. Which is kinda odd. Deluxe is a very 1970's term.
Hello.. how many sets of clothes can fit?
@mike does the Sheppard fit on the airplane underneath the seat?
Yes it does. Thats another thing I hated about my other bags is that I was stuck putting it in the over head and if I didn't board quick enough, I wouldn't have space in the overhead near my seat. Very frustrating. The Sheppard fits nicely under the seat even when fully packed. I'm pretty sure it was a factor when they designed this bag.
Can you fit a 25oz bottle on the side and close the zip ?
lol what's with the hand? I can't see the backpacks. So annoying...
Happen to be selling your Nellis?
Shappard looks much better, and can put water bottle and umbrella on 2 sides, it’s much better
What the horizontal band over rear shoulder strip use for ?
5:13 "Not that that takes away from this." Ummm, well, it does.
How is the "new" "Deluxe" different?
Not black still using ballistic nylon ?
Have them the antithieft cable?
Can the sheppard fit a 17 inch gaming laptop?
I don't believe so. Pretty sure 15.6 is the max. I have a Lenovo Yoga which is 14.4 I think and it fits pretty much perfect with a little space on each side. 17 might be to big.
@@miketruby4259 hmm, think the Macbook 16" might squeeze into this?
Is that graphite or black?
both bags are black
Has anyone compared the Nathan expandable to the Nellis ?
Off I go to EBay to find a Nellis
The sheppard was just a bit fatter..ok got it! 👍
The Alpha Bravo Nellis sounds like a great fit for my needs. Would anyone like to part ways with their Alpha Bravo Nellis?
I need my time back
get to the point...
