I wonder if Colin Hay ever thought he would be part of a band playing Frankenstein live. Or for that matter if Edgar Winter ever thought he would be onstage playing Who Can It Be Now?.
WOW!!! Thank you Edgar AND everybody else for making me feel young again; I'm just glad that I lived my life on this beautiful planet of ours at the same time that these people, and May everybody live longer than me so I don't stop listening to this wonderful music. PEACE and greetings from Méjico!
Trivia: This great song got extra airplay for years on the radio, because some stations used it to close out an hour of airplay. They'd toss on Frankenstein to fill whatever time they had. It held up well to being faded-out whenever they needed to.
Instead of taking a boring drum solo Greg started quoting classic drum parts at 7:48: We Will Rock You, Rock and Roll, Immigrant Song, Ticket to Ride, The End(Ringo solo), Come Together, Wipeout, Honky Tonk Women...Brilliant...
These guys are amazing. I saw them last year in the Canandaigua Arts Center. They have extraordinary energy for men of their age. Not to mention no end to the talent the display. Greg Bissonette is just awesome. It's very indicative of the personality of Ringo to get off the stage and let Bissonette have the limelight. These guys rock!
I was lucky enough to see Edgar & Johnny every time they rolled thru Memphis in the mid 70's. Blew my Mind how absolutely great they were....So glad Edgar is still playing And with Ringo and guys to top this party off. Fabulous ❤ 😊. Love you guys . Drums are killing it!! Greg you are fantasic...😊
I remember when the song first came out the A/M radio stations played a very short version, about 3 minutes long maybe. It was that way on the 45. I didn't hear the long version till i bought the LP album.
Ringo Starr and His All Starr Band one of two of my favorite all time concerts (from 1978 to 2023) other is Sir Elton John "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road". Ringo and Company Rock The House!!! A True ALL STARR BAND CONCERT no doubt.
This song was CRANKED UP in every Stereo Store in the 70's. Once Upon A Time, they were marketing "Quadraphonic" Sound and it was always this song they used for the Demo. Great job by the Band..damn we're getting old, Lukather is all gray now.
I remember hearing this for it's first time being radio played at it's release back in the early 1970's. What year, I can't remember. One of a kind song you never forget. John 3:16
On May 19, 1973, after Secretariat and Ron T. won the Preakness, radio stations across the Nation announced Frankenstein as #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. To make it perfectly clear, the SuperHorse had a theme song which was never recognized. For the week of the Belmont Stakes when the new King was crowned, Frankenstein held fast in the #2 slot.
Before "Frankenstein" hit, I had the Edgar Winter's White Trash album. It has a soulful solo piano tune called Dying To Live that shows another aspect of the man's talent. That being the 'Nam Era, it resonated among questioning hippies. He's still great
I seen him in Tahoe, sitting only a few feet from the small stage...when he was at end of the jam, he started to unhook instrument , it went into another loop playing without him... working the Ringo show next month in Tahoe outdoor finale for our year
Saw him in2008 Roanoke Virginia. One of the best shows ever. He was killer with the same voice like back in the day. sang arpeggios and pointed to his young guitarist to repeat each line. Dude earned his money!
Cruising downtown Las Vegas on Fremont Street every Friday and most Saturdays in a hopped up Ford Gran Torino GT, white with red pinstriping and intrerior, to Edgar Winter's Frankenstein!! Those were good times!
I never appreciated what a brilliant record that was until seeing Edgar Winter in the All-Starr bands. And among other talents, he could have had a career as a jazz sax player, competing with Keeny G in the 80's.
Great stuff! Massive talent and passion on that stage. I always love Edgar's opening intro to the song: it hasn't changed in years and why change a good thing?
Saw them do this last year with my 18 yr old son(huge Beatles fan) ,,, waited 2yrs cause of China !!!! Ringo was great , but this was the highlight for me (56 yr old dad) !!! Edgar was F'ing phenomenal...... It was WAY better than this one !!! No disrespect , but sometimes you just have a "night" .... and this made it all worth the wait .... Even my son knew what he was seeing that night !!! Thank you Soo much for that memory .... You really have no idea . He's away in the service now . The last before he left .... Semper Fi ....
I was lucky enough to see Johnny , Edgar winter and Rick Derringer at the Northrup audtorum on the University of Minnesota. Opening act was Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush. My hard rock day. It was the last rock concert at the venue for 30 years(45,000 in damage to the covered seats and the bathrooms. ) Concert was great
Wow, nice! Great double bill. I saw the Edgar Winter Group back in 1973, with Focus ("Hocus Pocus") opening. Those were the days when big name bands were always coming to town, and tickets were about $10. What a great era for music.
Great to see Edgar. I still remember 50 years ago, when the electrifying “Frankenstein” hit the charts, the No. 1 single here in Canada in June 1973.
The year i graduated, I remember the song very well
Do you remember Dan Hartman & Rick Derringer off the original EWG?
Ringo was backstage changing his depends.
Oh, I'm sorry, having his depends changed.
@@mikemiller659 me too 😁
Lukather playing Frankenstein!
Edgar Winter & drummer Greg Bissonette at their very best.....This was one of the huge highlights of this FABulous show!
Totally agree they were awesome as was the whole band
....Edgar Winter one of the more underappreciated SUPERSTARS....ever-----True showman
@@bshef3424 Absolutely!
At their best... Sorry for them
@@raymondkarlsson9794 Everyone on stage with Ringo has had a very successful recording & performing music career.
I wonder if Colin Hay ever thought he would be part of a band playing Frankenstein live. Or for that matter if Edgar Winter ever thought he would be onstage playing Who Can It Be Now?.
all great musicians must be kindred spirits... can play and appreciate all types of music...
Thought the same question ... Looking at the lineup, you could ask that of everyone of these guys.
@@debmurray2734 Indeed! Not to mention playing them with Ringo!!
They were both in Ringo's All Starr Band in 2008, and both those songs were in the setlist, complete with Edgar on sax for Who Can It Be Now?.
WOW!!! Thank you Edgar AND everybody else for making me feel young again; I'm just glad that I lived my life on this beautiful planet of ours at the same time that these people, and May everybody live longer than me so I don't stop listening to this wonderful music. PEACE and greetings from Méjico!
Amazing. I'm 62, watching edgar play Frankenstein, which I first heard in college in '79, and it was already 7 years old.
HE'S STILL JAMMIN' !!!!
the talent on that stage is scary great. ringo only hires legends to play in his bands. all of his bands are a treat to watch live.
Used to be better though.
Why isn't Ringo on drums?
Trivia: This great song got extra airplay for years on the radio, because some stations used it to close out an hour of airplay. They'd toss on Frankenstein to fill whatever time they had. It held up well to being faded-out whenever they needed to.
Bissonette is an absolute BEAST!

It was an amazing show by all these great musicians. My wife and I had a great time .
Edgar Winter is phenomenal! My favorite
Nice to see Edgar still rockin' it!! Great performance by all.
Thanks for sharing. Thanks Edgar Winter … for creating a unique song that people not even born yet … will enjoy in the future.
In my "humble, honest, unbiased" opinion,ONE OF THE GREATEST ROCK AND ROLL INSTRUMENTALS EVER!!!!!!
I've heard this song a gazillion times and never knew its name was “Frankenstein”😂🤷♂️.
Yeah it was on his "They Only Come Out At Night" album
They called it that because the original master had a ton of edits and splices from multiple takes.
Wow! What instrument can’t Edgar play??!!
Can't think of one...

Love love love Greg's drum solo.
He plays so many greats in one clean take. But to end off with Bonzo is a real show of respect.
Gregg Bissonette - best guy to have at the second kit alongside of Ringo! Great to hear all these guys and excited to see them 11 days from now.
Edgar, it has been a long time since we saw each other, 1963. You still bring back those great memories… thanks ❤️
One of those songs you don't have to say anything about it. The music says it all

Yezzir the vinyl copy I found long time ago was the non-gatefold "quadraphonic" with cool too-small-a-damn photo on the front cover heh heh
That was bloody good 👍👍👍
Still has it wow totally totally awesome
Some of the greatest riffs of all time. Will never get sick of this song. 😎
Greg is a excellent drummer and Edgar is awesome so is steve love them all !😊😊
Great show last night in Vegas! I was right upfront, blast watching Gregg!

That drum solo was so enjoyable, how clever, just a little of everything put together perfectly!!🤩
This track NEVER disappoints!
neither do the other tracks on "They Only Come Out at Night" Just coincidence but played "Autum" and "Alto Mira" earlier today
These guys are KILLIN' it!!
I never knew that old man Winter was so tall.
I'm pretty sure that he's one of the nordic "Frost Giants" of legend. 😉

I saw all, or most of these guys on Ringo's 2018 tour. Sadly,, Edgar wasn't there. I did see him perform in 1999 and 2018, however.
Let's hear it for old rock n' roll guys!
This song and its arrangement is superb, amazing
