I was a volunteer organist in a small chapel in Wallkill, NY, for 33 years and very much wanted to see the young and old enjoy the older hymns. I salvaged this beautiful hymn to play every June especially. Same with the old Marian hymns. Our children deserve to hear these most beautiful hymns. They stay with you for your life and have much meaning. I pray that we will be able to bring some of them back in this New Era we are entering. I am 79 years old and I would love to see it before I die. May God make it happen. Much was lost.
I’m 74 and a retired teacher. I made sure during my career that every child in my charge had a great knowledge of the old hymns. They’re part of our Catholic heritage. To this day I love these beautiful tributes to Jesus and Mary and today on the Feast of the Sacred Heart, I’m listening to Father Sydney McEwan singing To Jesus Heart all Burning on my iPod and here on RUclips looking for other beautiful versions. In fact the tears are welling up just hearing the words while looking at my wall mounted image of His Sacred Heart. 🙏🏻
These beautiful traditional Catholic hymns encapsulate the Faith so well. Even though I am not a cradle Catholic, I would dearly love us to return to the Traditional Latin Mass, and the rituals one day with these hymns. They had and still do have real spiritual power. I feel spiritually deprived and lost without them.
It is wonderful that even though you were not brought up in the faith you can still feel the beauty and emotion of these old hymns. I know exactly what you mean about feeling spiritually deprived without them. The words of these old hymns are so uplifting and obviously written by those who loved Jesus and His Mother. Every time I hear the hymn Mother of Christ the words reduce me to tears at their beauty. My favourite version of it is sung by a priest, Fr Sydney McEwan. It can be found here on RUclips 🙏🏻
My mother would sing this hymn at our church in Newbridge, NSW.Australia when I was aged 5/6..yrs...... She had great faith. Thanks for the memory. Peter
Nothing can compare to these and other hymns we sang long ago. Why can't we still have these sung along with today's hymns. They are so much more beautiful. Thank you for this.
I'm Traditional Catholic and these are the hymns we sing all of the time!! You're right, our older music is the best - a taste of Heaven, where the angels sing forever. Amazing!
ABSOLUTELY!! And to hear it sung with the organ! The Mass I went to this year for this beautiful Feast had an organ but used an electronic keyboard and a few women "sang" an awful modern song (I can't call it a hymn!!!)
This was my favorite hymn when I was a child. My grandmother played the organ at Mass, and she knew how much I liked "the heart burn song," so it was on the program frequently.
Sacred Heart of Jesus I place all my trust in You You promised Blessings to the family where you were honoured .You were the Centre of our family thanks to my father and mother God rest them. .
It is wicked that so many beautiful hymns have been denied to generations of catholics since the Church has been hijacked by those who despise everything of beauty and grace that our Church bequeathed. We must stand up and demand the restoration of our Catholic heritage for the sake of our children's souls.
oh really? What nonsense. Vatican II was a disaster. The Church was hijacked by those who hated Catholicism. The result has certainly lead directly to the loss of countless souls. Many souls would have found God if there had never been that council. Many will go to hell because of it.
Kaleb Lippert No it certainly was not. The church was in a healthy and holy state, there may have been a few pastoral problems here and there but a few well appointed bishops could have solved that. It took 5 years from the close of the council to destroy nearly everything catholic. We're only just beginning to get it back, and were a long way off yet.
DooDoo The church believed and worshiped in a certain manner for nearly 2000 years. The second Vatican council introduced beliefs that had not only never been believed before, but were condemned by previous popes. Read the condemnations of modernism and religious liberty by pope pius XII and Pope St. Pius X. Also read quo primum by pope st. pius v. Its awful to think and I understand that but the facts are the facts.
This takes me back to my days as an Altar-boy. Four Sunday Masses with Standing room only at the 12 O'clock mass. Four Altar-boys for each mass and all had specific duties to do in pairs. We didn't need an organist as everybody sung the hymns following on from whoever started the hymn. This one was a favourite with Fr White who would start this at the end of mass and remain on the altar till the start of the second verse at that point we would all then move to the bottom step of the Altar and at the refrain we all genuflect and process back to the vestry for our dismissal.
VINCENT MACGILLIVRAY , Jesus is Lord and Saviour. Many things militate against God and His Good News. The media, and TV in particular are agenda driven against God. TV is the Devil’s tabernacle. Coronation Street, East Enders and every soap opera is designed to lead God fearing people astray. The moral collapse can be put down to the TV. Although the internet is the New Age media channel and is vastly more powerful than the TV, the damage has been done by the latter. The Holy Scriptures are to be studied by everyone . Man does not live by bread alone , but by every word that comes from the mouth of God. Young people even in Catholic schools need to learn the Ten Commandments. It would be a pioneering brave Christian who would teach by rote learning his or her pupils the Ten Commandments. Jesus is coming back - as sure as night follows day. Maranatha . Come Lord Jesus Amen Amen?
They are wonderful recollections. I liked the whole experience viewed from an altar boys perspective. A full choir, a rousing organist and everybody singing the hymns in a full church. Our Sunday masses were at 8.00am, 9.00am, 10.00am, 11.00am and 6.30pm in the evening. On many Sunday's there was Benediction at 2.30pm. Do you have any happy memories of May Sunday's ?

This sounds like how they sing in England. The American/Canadian version is a little difference in rhythm.
