Hi guys! I can't believe I've finally managed to sneak this into my schedule! I've been wanting to make these clay brush rests for so long! I actually have so many ideas but this was the one that I really wanted to make. This took several days to film and I had such a tough time with the resin, as it was my first time using it, but I'm so happy with the result :D Hope you guys enjoy this one random tutorial even though it's not really watercolor related :D

heyy nia!! so i just wanted to thank you for all the tutorials you post, its really so great to be learning to paint by someone as good as you. i'm a highschool student and my parents aren't really big fans of me doing art (I'm from india :) ) so i cannot buy art courses, but your videos have been so helpful. I've been following them since a year and i can now create my own pieces from a reference photo and honestly thats something i always wished for. thank you so much nia, for everything.

WARNING (to anyone who wants to try this): Please research resin safety before using it. Resin requires the use of safety equipment, as far as I know. Also, for sure wear gloves whenever you're using UV lamps.

But its like in this proverb "when the wise man show the moon, the idiot watch the finger"...So beware to not focus on something useless, while her comment is very useful.
Yes we need gloves and mask, resin is toxic and dangerous, and not safe for aquatic environnement so it shouldn't be thrown in water.
Because, like this person i made researches, in case you would have a fake interpretation of my words. By your reaction, you allow others to not take her comment seriously, while it have to be take seriously. So be careful about what you discredit.

Gloves should always be used when handling resin in general, not just when UV lamps are involved. Ventilation is also important and a respirator is always good just to be safe (definitely required depending on the space or total exposure to the fumes and the strength of the respirator varies,) and if you're particularly clumsy, have sensitive eyes, or need to sand anything goggles would be handy. Always make sure you keep supplies nearby to clean up in case of spills.
You should also avoid pointing the UV light towards your face and eyes like we see in the video and should probably keep your hands out from under it, moreso because it's unnecessary to have them under there or move the lamp itself around but there's also potential to damage your vision at least temporarily if you look at the light.
RUclips's got plenty of stuff about resin safety and the potential hazards involved (such as epoxy poisoning from the fumes,) and of course always read the label before deciding on the product.

I use a baking rack for my air dry clay friendos. As long as the clay on the bottom isn’t too wet, it doesn’t get the grid indentations. So I keep it on the parchment paper I used to make it for a couple hours so it can firm up and transfer it to the baking rack so it can get airflow all the way around. And then I use foil to bulk out any of the items I’m working on that are more than a half inch thick. This helps drying time to be no longer than 2 days in most items.

This was so relatable. For sometime now I've been looking at chopstick rests to be used as brush rests but they are so expensive so I've been thinking of diying some for myself. I've been looking for designs and these look adorable. ❤❤
PS : resin gets absorbed easily in skin so wear gloves and a mask if you use a UV lamp to harden it for the fumes. Other than that resin is self leveling so let it rest a min or so before you harden it, it'll prevent or atleast decrease the clumpy look.

It’s best to use acetone when it’s in brushes as it dissolves it more easily when it isn’t cured. But even if it has, it will break it down to be usable again. Alcohol won’t do much. Idk how well it works on expensive brushes with non-synthetic hairs and I mean as in will it go back to the same quality. I’m not sure.

I'm kind of allergic to my own sweat though, so I usually have to use cotton gloves underneath, which makes moving my fingers a bit hard with the double layer. The resin is sticky.. so if I want to take off my gloves and put it back on I find that it would be bothersome. But Yes, I think this would be useful for those who doesn't have allergies like me :)
