I remember paying Rs 5 to sleep in a corner on the floor of a dilapidated hotel in Bombay India as I had very little money in my pocket and couldn't afford a room and had to go for an interview the next morning properly dressed in 1976. I got the job of a refrigeration mechanic and headed to Dubai the very next month. My life changed after that. I built a career in which I progressed from Mechanic to Technician and a few years later from Supervisor to Technical Sales Representative and again a few years after that from Sales Executive to Sales Manager when I finally retired in 2015 after 38 years of working and enjoying an amazing life. Got married to a lovely Filipina. Currently, I'm retired in the Philippines! Oh! What a blast it has been! I'm proud to say I did it the hard way but it paid off.

Me and my family finally escaped poverty 2 years ago. One skill I picked up from living in the slums for 7 years is good budgeting skills. I can memorize prices of a lot of things we need and my parents made me their personal accountant. So far I've been doing good helping my family with spending money and we finally have a nice house and enough money to pay the bills, groceries and even some money left over to buy luxuries for ourselves :)

I think this pandemic has taught people the importance of multiple streams of income unfortunately having a job doesn't mean security. So I really appreciate your transparency and giving people a fighting chance during these troubling times.
Despite this troubling period it is just a reminder that the rich continue to invest more and spend less which is why they remain financially stable and the poor continue to spend and have never invested as much as the rich do.

My business grew by word of mouth! I was born in poverty, now im a business owner & built an upper middle class lifestyle. Make more money than what i know wat to spend on. So I saved it & i have funds to cover years of expenses even if i dont step foot back into the work place. I have no worries about affording things. Overcoming poverty is possible with THE MIND! I did many of the things he's mentioning here! It's good advice in this video!👍
I will have to agree 100% with this video. I remember only making 21k a year which isn't much living in NYC, I had to figure out what my calling was and it was to help people. I finally found a career that i can see myself doing for a long time that i can live off of which was massage therapy. Now i make a lil over 40k(which isn't a lot but ok for now). I plan on going to get my esthetician license next. So I would suggest find your passion first then go from there
I'm learning about welding for now, and then coding, and then maybe some healthcare education.... It's hard to find your passions but hopefully, we all can be successful.
Good job, but I disagree fundamentally with this video. The majority of people born into poverty are never able to gain the money needed to pursue an education. Often times poverty goes hand in hand with broken family relationships and poor health which can affect people by adding overbearing responsibilities. Finding a passion even, if you have no time or energy to pursue what interests you becomes almost impossible. The rat race society forces the poor to run keeps them in their tracks, often binding them by high housing and transportation costs. Having lived in NY I imagine that you are familiar with all of this and could see how condescending this video is. I was born on the coast in California, and housing should never be more than 50% of what you can make.🤦♀️

One of the lessons I picked early in life was to save maximum before marriage. And by God it was one of the best one. I used to save two thirds of salary at that time. I invested the same in a diversified MF. My patience was tested in year 2017, when my portfolio was down 30%, but still I continued investing. After foreshortening, I used to save on an average 60% of my salary (crazy right!), but my first big break came in 2019 in stocks, with the help of a full service broker , I had accumulated enough money to retire! You can be born middle class or even rich and die poor as well, but it's not necessarily your mistake if you were, say, spoiled with material goods yet untaught.
You can also get a car wreck and become handicapped....or get cancer...or lose your business. So many things can ruin your job or business...from mental health or diseases to criminals and natural disasters....etc. Staying rich is not guaranteed!!!
For those who don't know, Poverty is very very depressing. It's scary. My Highschool Chemistry Teacher said that without education you'll be broke busted and disgusted.
What it took me: Holding two jobs - one with mando 10-12 hour days, plus a p/t on the side - for about half a year. I'd sleep 3 hours a night for 6 days a week - one day where I could sleep a full 8, and another where I did my laundry. It also took a gym membership for showering between jobs. The degree of work it takes is extremely unreasonable, and to get there today, you must be unreasonable as well. The real gap to jump is the $16k-$48k/year "middle income trap." If you're really crossing your t's and dotting your i's, you'll need an income above $50k/year just about anywhere you go in the states now; and financial assistance programs cut their qualifying range somewhere around $16k/year. So if you're somewhere in the middle, you can tread water for awhile, but don't let yourself become complacent with that. All it takes is one disaster - family emergency, car malfunction, some disaster like that - and it could level you back to nothing. Build circles of support for this kind of thing, especially where you're working.
Street smart and common sense will help you in everyday life they never taught me that in school they never told me to lease land do farming and earn an sustainable income They thought me to get a job work hard and take loans for a mortgage
Saying that poor ppl are poor because they don't have "street smart" and "common sense" is just a way to say to the poor that they are too lazy to be rich. Poor ppl, in the contrary are one of the least lazy ppl in society. We need mass funding in the education systeme to provide high quality education for everyone, mass funding in social safety nets, mass funding in all kind of social program. And to finance that, you massively tax the rich that have abused the poor for too long.

Except that we can't become anything without money and majority of the population including low income pple will never get out of poverty if they do they will barely make it to middle class. @Jackline Mugo for us, What It Takes to Escape Poverty? just by leaving the country, imaging in 2021 , average salaries here are between 200 to 300 dollars PER MONTH! , well that alone can't determine if a person living in my country that got paid this salary is poor bcz there is something called "living cost" , since 2011 everything increasing in price between 2 to 10 times its original price and even more than 10 times in some cases, while salary increased only by just 1.5 , imaging a 30-year-old Peugeot 205 /106 can cost around 3k dollars, and buying a house officially bcm a dream unless u buy it through ur bank,u can expect urself to officially owned by the age of 63-65 , then u can enjoy ur life(or what rest of it)
If there's one thing I feared most about and that would be my "FUTURE". Honestly, I'm way too far from my ideal future because my current job pays me a minimum wage but I'm still grateful and also I'm trying to save money as possible as I can. Thinking about what my future would become is so damn stressful upon knowing that my current financial capability is barely sustaining my daily basic needs. Sometimes, I feel envious to other people bcuz they aren't thinking much about this so called "FUTURE". I'm not criticizing them for who they are bcuz that's how this world works nowadays. People around me would always say enjoy life bcuz you only live once and they meant it by spending money unwisely. And that's why it isn't surprising when only few succeed. Verily, I'm not obsessed aiming for greater heights in life, just an average life is enough (not scanty by any means). Right now, I think I'm successful already because I'm still breathing, I'm healthy and guided by our almighty God.
We have failed as a species. Too many humans live in poverty, it is unnecessary and an imaginary system we created. There will always be a small group of extremely wealthy people while the rest of us struggle and suffer. This system is reaching its breaking point and will no longer be sustainable on our planet. Good Luck and God Bless Us All!
Of course being poor or rich is defined by everyone differently for example being rich in health etc. but everyone AT LEAST deserves to know how NOT DIE in poverty by having proper investment strategies and the financial education! It depends on the person whether he or she puts in the work to become financially independent but everyone deserves to get the theoretical knowledge in how to potentially get there!
The very first thing that we need in order to escape poverty is by having a good mindset. Mindset is really everything- it can serve us our map that will guide our aspirations, our desires and our goals in life.
Being born in the right country ia the best foundation of escaping poverty. Take it from me, born in the Philippines. I've seen every opportunity slip away for being stuck here. Someday, I'll make it to a better country and grow faster there.

It is nice to see that you have endorsed the three factors of success, education, application and drive. There is a fourth and it is so easy to miss and that is you are remembered for your work by the last 4 or 5 minutes of your association. There is saying which states the easiest way to stay poor is get a job. Self employment has a lot going for it.

Education in fact is not always an effective tool to escape poverty. Employers hire potential employees not just on education but also on the skills and experiences which could add value to their companies. If the educations and skills in question aren't relevant to the line of work, they hardly could land a job for job seekers.
Employers mostly hire their relatives, friends, and college classmates from Ivy League universities and within their own ethnic group. Social skills such as interviewing, toxic positivity, obedience, beauty, and business etiquette matter more to managers than technical skills. Job interviews are now auditions. Job postings are now seen by thousands of applicants worldwide. Qualifications are now 20 years experience, even for entry-level jobs. Applicants have only a 1% chance of being hired, now.
Learn multiple skills, minimize your expenses, don't live for the Jones', used will do. Be willing to work harder than most people, develop an attainable plan.... both short term and long term. Save....Save Save.
There are so many ways to manage and prepare for a relaxing future, we just always have to keep doing our best because whatever we plant now, we will harvest later good or bad

Thankyou for sharing, it is very helpful. My additional input here: Eliminating interest can significantly eliminate poverty. Therefore in Islam interest or riba is prohibited.
At a conceptual level, pretty much everything in this video is accurate in terms of steps that would result in a person improving their position in life, no matter what their current economic level is. Unfortunately, the presentation is simplistic and ignores the challenges that those in poverty actually face just to be able to consider attempting any of the steps. Reinforcing the total lack of awareness of reality is that almost all of the scenarios shown in the video of people acting out the recommendations were images of people who were clearly not in poverty. The images were basically of middle to upper middle class non-minorities taking advantage of resources that are readily available to them. The narrator mentions libraries, churches, community centers, services provided by NGOs and non-profits, but has apparently done nothing to find out how limited those sources are. Every one of the community support services he mentions is underfunded in the USA and has too many current and potential clients to serve to be able to do a broadly effective job. One of the reasons they are underfunded is because upper middle and upper class individuals who have political influence make sure that they are underfunded at the Federal, state, and local levels. This video is basically a device intended to make comfortable people feel self-satisfied and justified in providing little support for poverty eradication by laying off responsibility totally on those who are in poverty. After all, if poor people don't want to try and they enjoy being in poverty, then there is no need for the haves to help the have nots. Of course, if everyone currently in poverty was able to accomplish the things recommended in this video, who would be left to clean the houses and care for the lawns of those who are well off? Who would be available for child care? Who would do the menial tasks that make life comfortable for those who are well off? If people really want to help others to escape poverty, a good starting point would be to pay more than poverty wages to the people who serve and make the lives of the middle, upper middle, and upper class comfortable. But that won't happen because those who could deliver change through beneficial use of their political power feel more comfortable laying off 100% of the blame and responsibility for being poor on those who are poor. Until there is systemic change that provides real, equal opportunity for all, the things recommended in this video are nothing but feel good platitudes to soothe the consciences of those who will never have to be concerned about facing poverty themselves.
I say this multiple times and I definitely get the your just being lasy and if I can do it you have no excuse spill . I just recently lost my car because someone else ran the red light and even know the damage was cosmetic the insurance wouldn't pay to fix it because the cars worth was 7,000 dollars . Most of the pay out went towards the loan company . We spend alot more to get around , my husband has to choose between bringing a lunch , a change of clothes or his tools , and has to walk a ways to the train and still walk an hour to work and then get back home around 8- 9 . Since he can't exactly bring everything he needs sometimes crappy gas station food is all he eats for that day .. with me my work is local and sometimes I get picked up . I also get dropped off after so I have the luxury of just bringing my lunch . I walk when I can but walking with more then a backpack and 1 light bag of groceries is taxing regardless if it's a 20 minute walk . Extreme weather also puts a toll and I'm pregnant so I'm finding i have to be careful of what exposure I have . Not including the price of appointments I have to make . Not having a car if we are frugal with it can probably be less then the gas , maintenance and insurance. To be honest it's just not rediculous and probably end up spending more on Lyft's then it's worth in gas and I can't finance under 12000 dollars so I have to save a good amount + take out a loan up to 3,000 to pay in cash to buy a 5 year old car . I got decent credit but loan interest rates are very expensive when you go interests free for 18 months you can knock it out by paying a good amount for that time period, but pass it you can be paying 18-22% in interest. Where as the dealership my interest rate is below 5 % but I'm at risk of getting a loan that is above 7 years for a used vehicle. 🤦♀️ this is my research. The baby was abit of a surprise but I'm not gonna just get rid of it and I'm ready to do what it takes to take care of it . Didn't even think I could have kids being 27 and married and living with my husband since I was 20. It's ok though we have alot more spending to do unfortunately investing in a washer and dryer and a car is the 1st thing on the list of many and what we make to together isn't alot of money so payments what we have to do .

To be aware of & use this advice: In your early childhood, you needed a parent / caregiver / close friend that knew at least some of this information and supported you in this way. You could not have done this on your own. Absent such early childhood conditioning, you could have learned this as an adult if you were taught to be open-minded & curious. A person in poverty is so overwhelmed with surviving that focusing on the issues & advice discussed here is basically impossible w/o a lot of support & help from a life-competent person. Being born into poverty is like being born in line to step-up to the batter's box while others are born on 1st, 2nd or 3rd plate! Peace.
I understand that learning skills is important to escaping poverty so I would put most of my skill points into understanding money and whatever is left into e-commerce.

I am going to comment before I even watch this video. First is education, then don't waste what little money you have on wasteful things like smoking, drinking, or drugs. Eliminate the thought processes of blaming everyone else for your problems. Stop blaming your parents, whitey, the government, well you get the idea. If you live in a poor country run by despots, where you don't have access to education it is virtually impossible to escape poverty, like much of Africa but anyone can escape poverty in the US if you are not physically or mentally handicapped and live in the US and are still living in poverty it is your own fault. Accept that reality and stop blaming others. After watching the video I couldn't agree more, a great video.

You should always do your best no matter what kinda cards you’ve been dealt with, but let’s not forget that there are systemic problems that need fixing that lead to so many people being poor and staying poor to begin with.
The titles should be: what it takes to scape poverty in 1st world countries. It takes multiple generations for majority of families in 3rd world countries to really scape poverty.
Think of what people need and focus exactly to get what you want..if you are able to think differently you can become successful...now that our opinions and ideologies abt life abt success comes from the environment we grew, the people around us,social media etc..so we should discard everything we have heard and seen and therefore begin to decipher our own opinions and the best way possible on how to improve our situations..that have hit me hard..
This is so valuable. I came from a poverty background. I’ve been trying to get out of it for over 30 years now but failed. My weakness is money - never can save, always spending it on shopping and travelling, always got scammed out of my savings. Today I am still at zero savings and struggling to change my mindset.
I think those of us who grew up in real poverty tend to have a strange relationship with money. We either spend all of it like there's no tomorrow (which was my problem), or we hold on to it so tightly that we refuse to even buy necessities for fear that we'll be poor again (which was my husband's problem). I wanted everything I felt like I couldn't afford when I was poor. My husband wanted to turn off the water heater and take out the light bulbs when they weren't in use to save money on utilities. Overcoming the poverty mindset is the toughest part of moving out of poverty.
This is how you get your family out of poverty: Step One: work hard asf & hustle. People say work smart not hard but let me tell you it’s practically impossible to work smart without already 1. having a strong grasp of what you want to do & 2. Having the money to implement these visions. So hustle as hard as you can while you’re planning on working smart. Make enough money to implement your plans for, Step Two: Learn and dream you next step of generating generational wealth. He’s right, poverty is a mindset & once you see wealthy people as normal people who earned what they had through their value & you don’t need to stay “humble” by being poor. That’s all bs designed to keep poor people in that spot. However if you have a vision that you will do anything to complete. It will be completed, unless you die. This is the mindset of success. Nothing will get in the way. Every other limiting mindset will fade away. This is the way to success.
The main thing is to prepare for opportunity. You have to have resources to meet opportunity. Selling is also making the situation look better than it is. Pyramid schemes have good sales pitches. Selling the people the secret of wealth and motivating them to believe it is selling AKA conning.

I’m glad that there was mention of those in poverty can be entitled. Most think those born into wealth are naturally entitled and the poor are automatically hard working. NOT always true. I know so many poor people who are entitled and rather live off of the government or expect a handout
By "entitled" poor people, you mean "discouraged workers and welfare clients, people with disabilities, retirees and homeless panhandlers." By "hard-working" poor people you mean migrant farmworkers, sharecroppers, coal miners, child-laborers in Third-World factories, and minimum-wage moonlighters in the USA.

Staying rich is not guaranteed!!!
as a man who make it from poverty, you provide a very accurate and practical items to get out of it. Great job!

For those who don't know, Poverty is very very depressing. It's scary. My Highschool Chemistry Teacher said that without education you'll be broke busted and disgusted.
It likely needs to be a useable education too!!
What it took me:
Holding two jobs - one with mando 10-12 hour days, plus a p/t on the side - for about half a year.
Are you out of poverty now?
Yeah I've gone through alot of expensive set backs and deplete my savings all the time . Definitely feel this is accurate

Saying that poor ppl are poor because they don't have "street smart" and "common sense" is just a way to say to the poor that they are too lazy to be rich. Poor ppl, in the contrary are one of the least lazy ppl in society.

@@neweraoldsoul6096 true
Education in fact is not always an effective tool to escape poverty. Employers hire potential employees not just on education but also on the skills and experiences which could add value to their companies. If the educations and skills in question aren't relevant to the line of work, they hardly could land a job for job seekers.
Not to mention education is a debt death sentence
It may have gone largely unnoticed but they did say the “right education” CAN be a powerful tool to escape poverty.
So doing cooking classes won't help you get a job as a software developer? Crazy talk!

@@dakotamabry1645 I'm glad you chose life for your baby! How are you and your family doing?

The answer is to think rich, dont think poor! On that topic, im offering my new 2 step fast-track plan to success, 1st chapter is called "Get started", and final and second chapter is called "Dominate the world!"
Answer...education good job connected to elite friends during education..
I attended college & university graduating with a Bachelor of Arts but I couldn’t get stable employment related to my major due a lack of job experience. Like many university grads, I began in menial labor, till the pandemic, I was a dining room coordinator part-time. During and after the mandates, I went into package handling also part-time and volunteering full-time when there were a lack of workers. Today, I’m a grounds worker/landscaper full time with benefits. Along with my family, we run a small but very profitable catering business for parties & gatherings on weekends or selective days making a modest living for over a decade and we’re thriving for the American Dream.
Beware, there are a lot of scammers in the comment section. They'll share their success stories and then have alternate accounts replying to them asking how they did it. They will then refer the person to someone and tell them to search for them on the internet. It's a scam.
Peace.
Those who were born into poverty will have the tallest mountain to climb, but with that journey, comes a better story.
I understand that learning skills is important to escaping poverty so I would put most of my skill points into understanding money and whatever is left into e-commerce.
Poverty is a mindset
And the mindset is influenced by the surrounding environment
@@kakchat agreed!
@@kakchat Yes, and to have a different mindset, one has to have awareness or change one's awareness of what is possible. Most people are set up to be poor more than rich. Taught nothing about personal finance but inundated with consumerism or spending mindset.

I studied so hard but I knew my school colleagues will always be ahead of me because their parents had money and connections. Till I got a way to move abroad, work even harder and save 90% of my income by living extremely frugally. If you know where you come from, you'll work hard to get your family out of it. In Canada 🇨🇦 without stable housing survival is in many cases all you can do. Weather the storm. Housing is not available. Many homeowners are landlocked. BC is Canada's California.

Bro really for 30 years? We want every situation in our lives to be exactly the way it is if we wanted it to be another way then it'd be another way.

You never escape poverty, you put distance from it.
Make enough money to implement your plans for,
Step Two: Learn and dream you next step of generating generational wealth.
That is it. Mindset. It is what sets people apart. One is willing to take risks.

@@vorrdegard2176 Most rich people inherited their money, so they probably can't give any advice to non-rich people, except how to please rich parents.

We can't help everyone but everyone can help someone:)
The main thing is to prepare for opportunity. You have to have resources to meet opportunity. Selling is also making the situation look better than it is. Pyramid schemes have good sales pitches. Selling the people the secret of wealth and motivating them to believe it is selling AKA conning.
The difference between selling and conning is the quality of the products and services sold and customer satisfaction.
Thank you so much for imparting valuable knowledge to the general benefit.
First investment is your health, with good health both physical and mental you will have the capacity to think critical and make good decisions in life. it is your first priority.

Luckily my parents taught me about finance. School never did. Younger co-workers now ask me for advice on how to save and invest for retirement. I feel like a part-time finance professional! Students learn more about feminism and transgender issues in school than how to pay their bills.
Thank you for inspiring me to write a paper about poverty
I’m glad that there was mention of those in poverty can be entitled. Most think those born into wealth are naturally entitled and the poor are automatically hard working. NOT always true. I know so many poor people who are entitled and rather live off of the government or expect a handout

You know these people, huh? Doubtful.
Kinda agitated how some people joke and meme about being poor/poverty-stricken when they're actually doing better than someone who is.
As well as others making you seem as if you're ungrateful for what you have and every issue or problem you're dealing with is nothing at all.
