  • Classic Car Addict is proud to present this beautiful fully restored 1955 Buick Special Riviera two-door hardtop for sale in our Mesa, Arizona showroom. The 1955 Buick Special Riviera (Model 46R) was the best bang for your buck back in the 50’s. After a complete redesign of its line for 1954, Buick simply freshened its models the following year, adding such trendy features as chrome “Dagmars” on the front bumper, a wrap-around windshield, and the famous Buick “ventiports” on the front fenders, as well as, on closed models, a “Florentine” rear window. The design helped Buick to place 5th overall among American automakers during the 1955 model year.
The cabin features front and rear bench seats that are original, finished in Charcoal Patterned nylon with Red Cordaveen bolsters that are joined by a matching dashboard, door panels, and carpet. The headliner is also finished in black and is in excellent condition. Additional features include a center-mounted clock and air conditioning. The three-spoke steering wheel features a chrome horn ring and frames the original 120-mph speedometer and a second gauge that shows the amps, oil, temp, and gas. The odometer indicates 9,146 miles since the restoration.
The Buick has been refinished in Carlsbad Black all the way around. The original paint was in Dover White but was repainted in black during the restoration. Features include a driver-side mirror, a Buick hood ornament, chrome bumpers and trim, vertical taillamps, reverse lamps, and a dual-outlet exhausts that exit below the rear bumper. You can see your reflection in this black paint, we like to call it the “Stealth Stallion”.
The engine bay looks just as good as the exterior. It features a rebuilt 264 CID Fireball V8 engine, a rebuilt DynaFlow three speed automatic transmission with power drum brakes. She rolls on Coker wide whitewall radial tires and has Buick hubcaps all the way around. It has dual chrome exhaust tips and when she drives, you can hear the old “putt” sounds that we all grew to love. This Buick is solid and rust-free throughout.

Nice car but I love how quickly glosses over the defects and the things that don’t work! Those window flappers are a pain to fix for one thing!

It is a classic car so things are bound to be a little off.

At the beginning of the video he said it had a 3 speed automatic...no. At the end, he called the Buick Dynaflow a Hydramatic (which would have been a 4-speed automatic in those days.)-no. Dynaflow just goes along in high gear and lets the torque converter handle everything else, but low (on this 2-speed automatic plus complicated torque converter) is manually selectable and makes a huge difference in acceleration from rest. -He should have done his basic homework on this. Also, he kept speaking of "Riviera" as if this is the car's model. It is simply 50s Buick-Speak for a hardtop. Prior to the 63 Riviera, that is all this word meant on a Buick. This is a Buick Special with the "Riviera" hardtop.
