  • Hi! Today I'm going to talk about advanced waypoint actions and triggered actions in the DCS Mission Editor.
TLDW: Advanced waypoint actions happen when an AI gets to a certain waypoint, triggered actions happen whenever the mission maker decides.

"Until the AI gets a little bit better" I think you of all people should know that's not gonna happen lol. AI is a big issue for everyone from the casual player up to the experienced campaign creator and has pretty much has been since the beginning. They need to just remodel it entirely instead of apply bandaids. I'm not saying it's awful and completely broken but it is a source of intense frustration for many.

I think ED is starting to pay closer attention to it lately. There have been some improvements that we’ve noted that help.

For me, one of the biggest problems is you can't change what the original task tell them to do. For example, you can't start with an, let's say, SEAD and at a certain point, because something happens, make them become anti-ship, even if they had the weapons to do it...

with creative scripts you can, but yeah, it would be great to be able to do it in the ME.

@@sedlo hahahaha, creative scripts is the perfect definition of what you have to do!

I believe you can do this with a work around. Say you set them to Anti Ship Strike, give them the "Search and Engage Ship" advanced task. If you switch them back to say "CAP", that "Search and Engage" task should stay in the list and will work just fine when you push it.

Were those Fight CLub-esque flashes meant to tell us that a certain Module is about to be released?

How about bombers dropping multiple JDAMS on multiple targets on a single pass? Or ALCMs

    • @sedlo

      That would be ideal.

Unfortunately, the ME doesn't allow for that since since you can only designate a single target. Same thing when you have ships launch cruise missiles against shore targets. You have to create multiple waypoints, i.e., one per missile launched per target. Looks messy but it works. Aircraft are a pain - really haven't gotten them to work - since they take their time, as we saw in Sedlo's video above, to line-up etc before they engage their target.

@@straywolf77 yeah I know, I’ve got the same results. But I was hoping for a smart trick that I didn’t know. Or an ED Person seeing this
