The unadulterated panic you can see in Alfred after he's told to describe the scientific principles behind 5 experiments was an unexpected highlight of this episode.
This is one of my favorite Breaking News episodes. Carolyn was amazing with her improv, and Brennan's genuine reactions sell everything so well because he is so wholesome and relatable. Trapp is IN HIS ELEMENT as Gilcrest Savoy, and it's one of his best improv performances. Alfred giving intentionally bad science tips could honestly be a theme for its own episode, and I would love to see Alfred more.
Trapp is not as obviously flashy as Brennan or Grant, as impossibly cool as Katie or as loudly failsome as Amy. But boy, he can deliver. He was also awesome in the episode about pirates and fingering. But let us not forget Carolyn's wonderful improv singing!
This is one of my favorite episodes now, everyone knocked it out of the park. And Caro’s calm collected delivery of “big tiddy bitches” absolutely killed me.

Trapp understood the assignment before he was told the assignment. Also, I'm not usually into the excessive [improvise] bits but they did such a good job with them that I loved it.
Me too.. but i think this group are so good at Improv in general that it really landed well! We all knew Brennan can think on his feet but Trapp blew me away, and the others really just kept up so well. I think this is one of my favourites!
Some of the improvs are the best ones. If they get some genuinely funny cast members on, it's better than the scripted ones because nobody expects it 😂
The thing that was so impressive was that all the improvisations were really varied - holidays, a song, TIME TRAVEL, science experiments. The improvised bits often fall flat when it's hammering on the same joke, but these really encouraged creativity. Like, Trapp's callback to Brennan's birthday was hilarious.

Interesting fact, the company that owned the copyright to Happy Birthday was ruled to have been granted that copyright incorrectly and therefore lost it.
Would have loved it nearly as much as the actual improvised song if Carolyn had pointed that out and then declared her intent to break the game again by singing an actual copyrighted Happy Birthday song to Uno-reverse punishment onto the writer who made that snafu. Of course that would more be punishment for whoever edited the episode.
That is summarized so much that it's technically incorrect because it leaves out 99% of the story...but the end result is the same so we have to let it slide.
Everybody talking about Trapp in the comments had got to at least acknowledge Alfred in this video. His delivery for the science experiments you can do with kids and his interactions with Trapp is gold.

I feel bad for Alfred in this one because Carolyn and Trapp delivered the best performances of their goddamn careers and kind of overshadowed him, but in almost any other episode of Breaking News, "Light your house on fire, see what happens - it'll be a socio-economic experiment for your family!" would have been the funniest line of the day.
I'd been watching this series in order from the beginning; RUclips threw this episode at me randomly. It's kinda like being a time traveler. This was absolutely hilarious! Everyone's just really having fun with it and doing disturbingly well with the improv; I'm glad that the series gets better over time instead of declining.
