People also used to do walking excercise. People still miss inside stores and places to eat. Bring it back. Let's make The Midway Mall Great again. 🥰
This an awesome video. Quite a surprise that you visited the days inn also. Was in town last week and it’s still open! No idea how.
Something hauntingly eerie and nostalgic about dead malls ❤️ So sad Saturdays at the mall/shopping centre with mum or friends are a thing of the past.
Thank you for making a proper video essay on the midway mall, truly the best one on youtube.
I remember as a child going to this mall and being so excited ! Its really sad at what it once was.
My friend and I went there today, there are 10 total stores left as of now.
I used to hate coming here with my mom when I was a little kid (except for Aladdin's Castle), but as a teen, I frequented the mall a lot. Can't tell you how many meals I ate there in that food court. There used to be an A&W there. Now the closest one is like 50 miles away. I miss those tenders.
I remember as a kid in the late 80s early 90s that the mall would decorate for Christmas beautifully. It's very sad to see all the businesses and Mall closing down. It was really sad when Toys R Us went out of business. We had a Walmart over there but it moved over by Route 20. Maybe I'll visit the mall today before it's gone
Dead malls is always a good presentation of what world would look like if there was a war or deadly disease and humans went away on a permanent vacation
Ironically 1978 Dawn of the Dead was filmed in the Monroeville Mall in PA built in 1969.
Sad to see. We loved it when it opened! ❤️
Grew up in Elyria and I'm still here 🤣 it is sad to see the mall going to shit
Used to Love going to the Mall in the mid 1980's and 1990's We were Actually * Mall Rats * Our Parents Would Just *Drop us off* at the Mall when we were oh 15 Years Old with Money in Our Pockets for the Video Game Arcade and the indoor Movie Theatre . . Great Times in the 80's an 90's . . .
That used to be THE MALL I used to go to, from the time I was born till the early 2000's.
My parents moved to Elyria when I was 6 in 1997. The Midway Mall and the Toys R Us across from it were childhood favorites. I loved Babbages, Borders Books, KB Toys, and Suncoast Video. So many good memories. It’s so sad to see what my childhood mall has become.
Wow, that mall outlasted quite a few. 1965 would have placed it amongst the first malls, I think. It’s always cool to see what architectural details survive mall make-overs. Great work, RR. Thank you for all you do.👍🏼🤘🏼😎
the attic resturaunt in higbees upstairs.
I remember the clock in the floor next door to the camera shop.
I love videos about abandoned malls! Thanks😊
Great mall always shoped their still love the place.
The Food Courts - Bring them back.
Great video I like watching the abandon malls I missed the glory days with the most populated malls were filled with stores worth going to especially for the weekends.
they used to have a movie cinema in the mall the outside one was billet the out side one in the late 80's
I lived right across the street in Sommer’s mobile home park when I was a kid back in the early 80’s.
Back then, this mall was packed! It was so beautiful and during the holidays I remember going there and getting pics with Santa.
I remember sneaking into the movies and watching The Neverending Story in 1984 lol.
There was a large tunnel that ran beneath the main road (57) between the mobile home park and the mall. As kids, my friends and I would walk through that tunnel to the mall or ride our bikes through it.
I remember the Cumberland Farms gas station and Toys-R-Us behind the mall. Eating lunch with my dad at Tavern on the Green (formerly Alzado’s) and going to the bar at The Joyful Mug with Dad almost every night after he’d get home from work.
Man the nostalgia is thick right now!
I'd forgotten about the 'Maternity Parking Only' signs, those are looong gone in Mi. too.
I lived in the area 10 years ago and have a lot of memories here and was a lot busier then with only Dillards being the closed anchor. It is so sad to see this mall like it is now. Awesome on this video and thanks for sharing.
Great video! The Cinemas opened in 1990. The Days Inn was formerly a Holiday Inn for several decades.
I grew up in Elyria and it's really sad to see what the mall has become. I used to spend all of my time playing DDR in the Arcade or shopping in Suncoast.
It was Holiday Inn
not Ramada.
Correct. My mom used to work there when I was just a kid in the early 80’s.
저기 추억 참 많은곳인데.. 안타깝구만
This mall was awesome during my childhood in the late 90s. I watched its downfall in the ‘00s. Today it is literally a shell. Honestly, with its proximity smack dab in the middle of the turnpike and i90, it would make a great Amazon distribution center.
They build projects right next to the mall years ago. What do you think will happen?
I live so close to there. Like only 15 to 20 minutes away
Its too bad they dont make it into something more desired like maybe apartments or senior living or offices. Hang in there Best Buy. Loved the maternity signs. Really enjoyed the video.
Best Buy left about a year ago. ☹️
@@wille5080 😕 Dang
Should turn it into a truck stop. It is close to all the highways. Shopping center is never going to come back to that area.
I grew up hanging out in the hot topic here 😢
It feels like a friend or family member died when I walk in there. I mean it honestly hurts. Great newspaper clippings. Higbee's/Dillard's had a sunken Gazebo you stepped down into that sold hot dogs. They have a warning sign on an outer door that says mold inside. The mall entrance inside Woolworth's/Best Buy/now Spirit Halloween had a little food counter and arcade games (Phoenix and Armor Attack). I have a 3D electric horse racing game with the Woolworth's logo. Alladin's Castle was the arcade across from JCP near the food court. I still have an arcade token. I have a short video of Macy's 2016 closing day. I don't think Johnny K's ever had his doors open to the mall. But he got a real good deal on it. It was May Co. then Kauffman's prior to Macy's. My sister worked there. They had carnivals in the parking lot. My neighbor was a manager at the Holiday Inn that became Days Inn. I didn't know about the movie being filmed there. That's hilarious how the security guard has a kiosk full of candles. A Chinese restaurant in the food court still does good business there. I always liked the architecture and furnishing of the Midway Mall. The Port Authority is thinking about trying to buy to get it under one ownership. The Cleveland Clinic and amazon warehouse have been considered. Who knows what'll happen. There's been so many things said. The only upside is abandoned RUclips channels like yourself are filming it. I've recorded some. It makes me wish I'd have recorded just a couple years ago. Their web site isn't even updated. It really does make me sad. PS I'm not crazy about the click-baity title which undermines the otherwise respectful video. But it is what it is. It's RUclips.
I wish they would put a medieval times restaurant at this dead mall
Was forcefully ejected from this mall today taking pictures- it has fallen even further with very few remaining shops, the only anchor store now is the dunhams sporting goods store, there was maybe 5-10 people in the entire mall when i went inside at 2pm on a sunday. Spooky place.
Photography is not a crime. First amendment.
Wasabi is not closed you just can’t access it from the inside.
It’s pronounced “dunums”. Not so much “dunHams”.
Where's the trash? Point me to where there is supposed trash in this video?! There is none. The one thing you can say is , they keep a very clean mall.
Living here..it really is a shame to see..sad
I remember Midway Mall being packed all the time. FYI the motel was originally Holliday Inn. My mother was a bartender in the bar inside called "Kings Table" if I remember the name correctly. And I stayed there when they were filming The Bronze. Chatted with the filming crew. I thought the told us the title will be Silver. They said one of the actresses of Big Bang Theory was starring. I guess one of the scenes took place in there. It indeed was a dump.
So sad
biggest mistake was boarding up the days inn ,loss of revenue from all those hos destroyed the economy
they also order via the internet and that is why the shop is closing because they go bankrupt and that is why shops are becoming empty
I'm sure the cockroach infestation will bring in the businesses and customers.
What's funny I'd I flip houses and I did one in Mansfield, I'm like theirs not a more ghetto place then Mansfield but oh boy was I wrong when I went to Elyria lol
