- Asia are an English rock group formed in 1981. The band was labelled a supergroup and included former members of veteran progressive rock bands Yes, King Crimson, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Uriah Heep, U.K., Roxy Music, Wishbone Ash and The Buggles. Since 2007, there have been two distinct groups using the Asia name: a reunion of the band's original line-up performing as Asia, and Asia Featuring John Payne as a continuation of the pre-2006 Asia line-up, initially featuring three of its members.
The John Payne era of Asia deserves a lot more attention and respect. The original 4 had the handful of hits that brought them to the world's attention - but Payne's era was more soulful & musically diverse. They made one great album after another, even if most of the world failed to notice.

They touch my soul. That’s for sure.
The initial part reminds me of my best friend :( He passed away in 2015 from cancer. He was the first real friend i had or probably the only friend. We used to listen to this song at my parents beach house in the 00's. Miss him alot. Thank you ASIA for all the love you have given to me over the years. Your music should live on forever be it Wetton's or Payne's era the idea is to transmit love, compassion, passion and good values.

And it has been mine for 40 years, and I'm rediscovering it in 2022!!

There is too many good songs/albums to say this is THE ONE - I think Astra is much better, but of course it has John Wetton on vocals all the way, which helps immensely!

There is no bad album of band ASIA with john payne . However, in my opinion, ALPHA album with john wetton was the best album that they made.
Wetton made Asia a great band, I think at least! Any album he sings on is pure magic.
I think that with John Wetton Asia no have a bad Album too, Astra is underrated for some, And Gravitas too.
With Payne Asia Rocks too, But we have to Thanks Geoffrey Downes too!!! He is really a Fundamental part of Asia.

The fact that this song is about the holocaust and invasion over the native people in all the american continent, makes me like it even more.
And also about industrialization and harvesting the earth for its resources.
It’s also giving me a sort of ancient astronauts vibe, like the first contact between a primitive human civilization and an advanced alien race.

and whenver Wetton sings, Payne is playing the bass and vice versa, and then here and there some songs sung together... But my guess is that geoff downes won't be very much in favor of the idea. Furthermore, if you have to divide the income of declining sales between 5 or 4 members, that makes an important difference...
