the start of a long saga that would then have the broken bat toss in the World Series, Clemens batting at Shea in 2002 and Shawn Estes missing hitting him, and Piazza catching for him in the 2004 All Star Game
3:37 A moment thats forgotten: after Piazza hit Clemens, the Mets pitcher hit Tino Martinez. Glendon Rusch for the Mets in game 2 = Complete-game-loss with 10 strikeouts, but he did allow 4 runs
For the first time since 1903, two teams will play two games in two different ballparks. In the Yankees-Mets opener at Shea, Dwight Gooden, back with the Yankees, returned to Flushing for the first time in 6 years and got the win, 4-2. Then, it was on to the Bronx and Yankee Stadium. There, Mike Piazza--7 for 12 against Clemens--faced the Rocket. Clemens threw a fastball right at his helmet, and Piazza suffered a concussion. Thus, Piazza would miss the ASG. Knoblauch's three-run shot in the 5th gave the Yankees a sweep of the unusual DH by the same 4-2 score as Mariano Rivera got his second save of the day. I was at the Oakland Coliseum that night where the A's rallied from a 7-2 deficit to win, 8-7 as Jeremy Giambi singled home the winning run in the 10th. And we saw fireworks after the game.
Jeremy Giambi not getting outshined by his brother. Back to back games coming up clutch WHat a day for Mets fans = First Doc pitching at Shea against Mets, and then at night seeing their superstar getting a concussion. Now my Mets have lost the first 3 games against Yankees, with Mariano getting a save in all three games. And it feels like Knoublauch was involved in every play in both DH games Lets hope my Mets can salvage the finale tomorrow July 9. At least the Mets pitcher hit a Yankees hitter (Tino). Shame Mike Hampton didnt do the same in the WS. And good move by Tino to just take first base after getting hit, and put an end to everything like Knoublauch was involved in every play in both DH games
On other notes, David Wells now has 15 wins before the AS break. Unreal. Ive always loved Wells stuff, but damn. And the Giants now just one out in the loss column behind Dbacks. WOW Griffey now has 28 home runs after his horrendous start. Nice Lieber always seems to pitch a CG for the Cubs

3:08 COD Concussion on Delivery.
WOw, the Tigers bullpen against the Brewers = 9 innings, no runs, 13 strikeouts
And now this question for all of you: do you think Clemens hit Piazza on purpose?
the catcher did call for the splitter, so it looked on purpose.
@@hmhm856 That's what the Mets' players thought.
MLB On Fox Announcing Crews
1) Yankees/Mets (Buck/McCarver)
2) Indians/Reds (Brennaman/Brenly)
3) White Sox/Cubs (Lewin/Kennedy)
4) Rockies/Angels (Caray/Torborg) (Stand Alone 4pm Game)
Kinda surprising that Braves/Red Sox was not a FOX game
