      The heater core has coolant run throught it and if it Start leaking Then you lose coolant which can cause overheating to the engine. So people bypass it because by passing. The heater core is cheap, easy and fast to fix.
      And on most vehicles to replace the heater core the whole has to come out. Which is very time consuming and can be pretty expensive labor wise. If you have a shop, do it but the problem with it is you will have absolutely no heat in the winter so it's Is more of a temporary fix in my opinion hope I helped

    • @joaquinw7896
      @joaquinw7896 Год назад +4

      The coolant system works as a complete unit and it has a path to always follow, some manufacturers have to absolutely flow through the heater core or it won't make it back to the water pump or radiator and cause more overheating issues; by eliminating the flow with the heater core. A bypass is to allow coolant flow so it won't have complications getting back to the radiator or water pump.

      @@joaquinw7896 so if your leak is at the heater core you bypass it so your engine can still run smoothly then

      The heatercore was leaking causing coolant to leak inside passenger floorboard and to replace heater core is about $500 labor customer did not have that much money so by doing a bypass it quits leaking and AC still works but the heat doesnt work which is ok now because were in summer

    I’m no mechanic what is the reasoning for bypassing the heater core? Does it end up requiring more fuel to run overall? Or is it just too goddam hot out where you live and the cabin doesn’t need to be warmed.

    • @traviskitson2061

      The reason some one will do this is the heater core has coolant run through it and if the heater core starts leaking you could run of coolant and over heat the engine and in most vehicles to fix the heater core you have to take the whole dash our of the vehicle which is vary time consuming and vary expensive to have a shop to do it so this heater core bypass is a easy fast and cheap fix but the problem with it is you will have absolutely no heat in the winter time so it's a good short term fix hope I helped you understand more
